Your fingers thrum against the countertop as you wait, glassy-eyed, for the customer to order something. Anything. You don’t mean to be rude, really, but it’s five minutes ‘till close and you’re the only one left. You let the last of one of your baristas go home early out of the kindness of your heart (they’re just a kid, was your sympathetic reasoning after this shitshow of a short-staffed day). Besides, as a supervisor, you allow yourself some leeway in letting the customer service act drop at 9:55 PM. Not like this guy seems to notice your impatience, anyway. He’s still agonizing over the menu overhead.
