Every time I see hatred for Gabi Braun posted online, either because they think she’s a bad person (she’s 12), she’s stupid/evil/unforgivable (she’s twelve), OR because she’s poorly written (blatantly incorrect), I want to give that girl a hug and tell her it’s not her fault.

Also, saw a post (which I won’t tag because ick) about how Isayama doesn’t know how to write characters and Gabi was the main point. I couldn’t imagine anything less correct. The propagandized child soldier from the opposing side is the ideal character to introduce to both humanize the opposition (in the form of the warriors, less so the big wigs who know what they’re doing is immoral) and the folks who treat her as worse than Reiner, Bertolt, Annie, or god forbid Eren for killing a single person are both unreasonable and lacking in critical thinking skills.

Gabi Braun has one of the simplest but most effective character arcs in the show, and she is not a bad person, she’s certainly not comparable to the war criminals that make up 99% of the cast. Erwin Smith and Pieck Finger are my favorite characters and Gabi is a saint compared to them. She’s a victim not a perpetrator.
