Yes, beautiful ideas! I probably won't be moving this to guides at the moment, because it's going to be a lot more speculation and what-ifs, and I'd like to have people across the site be included in the discussion. Thus, it will remain in FR Discussion for now.

Bump because I hope this thread does not fade away!
What I have read is really interesting and I want to fully catch up. I do a lot of idle speculating/headcanoning about this kind of thing; I was just doing some of this on Banescale exteriors (how the different Primary Gene looks might actually [i]be[/i] on individual Banescale, especially as I am unsure whether anybody updated their Physical Features entry after adding new Ancient genes) - and dragon eyelids/other options over in the Wind Forums in fact.
But, if I start properly reading now I will want to add or comment* and will completely forget to do the thing that speculation was related to. Things like "do Guardians have gills behind those cheek fin things" (gill covers?), or "do some or all Water** dragons (outside of my headcanons) have breathing abilities akin to some sea mammals (deep-diving whales, seals), or an ability to function underwater without any concern of drowning? Do Wind dragons have a similar capacity to handle extreme altitude, or is this counterintuitive because there is less air*** up there?" will need to wait. (Also, Sornieth does have magic, and I like imagining how magical and non-magical adaptations might coexist, but that might be outside the scope of the thread?)
Marked, reading for later. [emoji=nocturne happy size=1][emoji=gust size=1][emoji=old parchment size=1]

Thank you recent people for your support! This thread won't fade away, I've just been working on collecting information and putting it in another document, so it looks like nothing's happening here, when really it is!

@dragononymous Oh good to know! I am extra-busy and stretched thin myself, so I know about Things Take Time, and definitely no rush! Happy data-collecting. [emoji=old parchment size=1][emoji=nocturne happy size=1]

i adore this thread and i'm planning to bookmark it for later since this is actually shaping up to be a really good resource! i don't always know where to start when figuring out a breed's structure, so i think this is going to be helpful.
i actually have some proposals for you regarding faes! i feel like they're a very arboreal species when they aren't flying, since it's mentioned in the lore that they spin their lairs out of tree sap and presumably live in trees given their origin in the starwood strand. because of this i feel like lemurs would be a reasonably close approximation for limb structure
this photo shows the shape of the limbs pretty clearly:

i also think that fae necks would be very birdlike, since most birds (including the small round ones) have necks that bend in an S-curve, and for many birds it is possible and sometimes comfortable to curve the neck closely against itself in the way that is shown in the official art.
here's a heron to show what i mean:

these birds are a little less defined, but you can still see the curve:

i don't think this is particularly popular or well-known headcanon, since i certainly haven't heard this from anyone else, but i feel like these comparison points might be useful to you and i sincerely hope this helps [emoji=guardian happy size=1]
