Ok folks, lemme tell you a story. So here I am in the breeding grounds, previewing combos, and I try pairing up these two dragons I've got: NaToth and Adelier.
These are two of my permanents; I've had them for quite a while now. As far as I know, they're not related. They're not even from the same flight.
Anyway, they make cute babies, so I hit "breed" on those puppies-- and what do I get?
"These dragons are unable to breed because they share a common ancestor (Garston)."
So I'm like, what. Who the heck's Garston? Did I buy siblings or cousins, by accident? Off I go into the realms of genealogy, trying to figure out where Garston fits into this story.
Is he their dad? Nope.
Granddad? Nope.
Great-granddad? Nope.
Great-great granddad? SUCCESS! (Boy, that was a lot of tabs open.)
But ok, I think, having clicked through all these names, that's not ridiculous. Maybe one person just keeps a long lineage in their lair, and sells a lot of dragons? And I bought unknowingly from them twice. Or something.
But no. Let us backtrack.
This is Garston, of @SagaWolf's clan. (Pinging because I thought you might find this thread amusing.)
He begets Mostyn, of tadity's clan.
Who in turn begets Seaborn, of alraun's clan.
Who in turn begets Zelene, of OphidianOrpheus's clan.
Who at last gives us Adelier.
Now, let's return to Garston. Another of his children is Urchin, of contradanza's clan.
Who begets Maiza, of Immacolata's clan:
Who begets Scylla, of SuperMini's clan:
Who in turn gives us NaToth.
8 clans involved, 4 generations, and not a single one of the intermediate relatives have even been exalted.
... And I try to breed them, because oh, presumably they're not related!
And get surprised.
