Weird take maybe, but Tidelord's message (taken from @Coldau, thank you for capturing it!!!) is read into my brain at the same cadence as that one famous nuclear semiotics passage This place is a message... and part of a system of messages... pay attention to it! Probably just because of the opening line, and because it was left long ago(*?) and isn't quite as parse-able or as accessible Tidelord might've hoped. Made a bunch of jokes about this an eternity ago for Dustcarve since there was a glowing rock, but, y'know...it would be pretty cool if all of the hints of non-draconic cultures were because non-dragons had encounters with a weakened Shade that allowed them to design all sorts of containment and counter-measures, and now we're going out to restore that knowledge. Like I know it's a LOT to hope that we'll be puzzling over bygone cultures as a cross-Flight team, but it WOULD be one way to move this forward without having one flight be the big dang heroes, right? /ramble *been years for us, not sure how long in Sornieth time.

honestly the idea of tidelord putting a giant skull and bones or something over a place he found evidence of the shade is hilarious. crazy parallel you were able to find! i had no idea long-term nuclear waste warning messages was a concept--its a little morbidly amusing

What if the shade really is a massive, irradiated creature? The arcanist also canonically caused a nuclear apocalypse way back when, so there's probably tons of degree from that all over the place underground right?

Wait, that's a very cool point. It reminds me of the Arcanist's birth, which was basically the equivalent of a nuclear core exploding. There's a few references to radioactivity inside the Arcane flight too, with toxic rocks for rough example.

Since the Second Age civilizations brought the Arcanist to life, it wouldn't surprise me if they had insufficient, but still existing nuclear protections/countermeasures. Perhaps the Arcane flight or the knowledge we have left from the Second Age will be relevant in the fight against the Shade?

I ACTUALLY THOUGHT OF THIS TOO
The element of Void, and the eye colors are varying shades of dark grey/black.

Was definitely thinking of long term nuclear waste warnings when I saw that message. I have a feeling Tidelord left this at the beginning of the BotE, but because of his disappearance/hurricane, the cavern collapsed and all his messages got stuck. We are reading old voice-mails.
