TOPIC | Artists u like with small discographies
So it's firework night where I live, meaning I'm up late waiting for them to stop and just listening to music to drown out the audio hell that is fireworks which got me thinking about one of my favourite music artists, Pim Stones, who has 2 songs from what I can see on Spotify which got me wondering... Does anybody else have any musical artists they enjoy that don't have particularly big discographies?

During this I've also been talking to one of my friends abt music and taking in their music recs since I finished a playlist full of licensed songs from a game I'm playing (Alan Wake, if anyone's curious, there's some fantastic songs in it!) and they introduced me to Yaelokre! They've also got a small discography (currently 4 songs from what I can tell) but they've all been fantastic so far! P sure there's more music from them on the way too which is awesome :D

I'm not good at telling what genres songs 'n things are so I'm not quite sure what Pim Stones' music would count as (maybe some sort of like sad rock? We Have it All and The Last One I Made are both kinda saddening imo) but according to my friend Yaelokre is folk music. If either one of them sound interesting I recommend checking them out!

One band that I recently discovered is Ugly Casanova, they have a similar sound to Modest Mouse and only have one album released in 2001, which drives me nuts because I'd love for more bands to sound like Modest Mouse.

Another one which is kinda indie rock would be The Bravery, who only ever had four albums that came out from between 2004 to 2008. They have a couple of EPs also, but those all ended up being put on completed albums.

Crim3s is another one I can think of that instead of rock did hyperpop stuff, kinda similar to Crystal Castles, but only ever did three EPs between the years of 2012 to 2016, never actually releasing a full album.

These are three that I can think of off of the top of my head, and just scrolling through my spotify playlists, but I think this is a really interesting topic since so much media is being created right now it's unfortunately common for smaller artists to slip through the cracks and become lost media.

i love Pim Stones aaa We Have It All was on repeat for like 2 weeks straight when i first came across it haha~ as for other bands hmm... i listen to a lot of stuff but here are some with smaller discographies that i could think of:

Freddy Hale i think has less than 10 released songs; there are 4 on spotify and a few more on his youtube, his style is alt/dark pop and Beach Day controlled my life for months after i randomly stumbled on it, 10/10 do recommend. something about it is just perfect vibes for me. every now and then i go back to check and see if he's released something new lol, hasn't been anything since 2021 though. recommending Beach Day ofc.

Life on Venus are a shoegaze/dreampop band with an EP and 3 released albums. their stuff gives me chills, it's so ethereal and it makes me feel like i'm floating in space... a lot of their songs have that simultaneously sad and hopeful feel, you know? it's very calming. recommended song: Stranger Times

TSS (formerly known as The Sunday Sadness) are a French dark pop/electro group and please listen to their album Regrets. their English stuff is good too but man, when they sing in French... they have only 2 albums and some singles afaik! recommended song: Comme Avant

HUNTZA! a Basque folk rock group that never fail to improve my mood by 90% whenever i listen to them. their music is full of energy and life and if i could inject it directly into my veins, i would. they have 3 albums but they're not that well-known outside of their local region which is a huge shame. recommended song: Lasai, Lasai

lastly, Trees of Eternity was a gothic/doom metal group with a single album, which released in 2016 a few months after their lead singer passed away from cancer. i only learned this just now while checking their discography and i'm. deeply sad. rest in peace Aleah. :( i believe her husband Juha Raivio, who formed ToE with Aleah, is still playing with Finnish death/doom metal band Swallow the Sun. recommended song: Sinking Ships

@Amieg I LOVE PIM STONES AND YAELOKRE OMG. The thing with Pim Stones is that, apparently, he scrubbed his internet presence entirely and no one knows why. He's only ever made like 7 songs, but all but 2 have vanished into thin air.

My current musical hyperfixation is Unleash the Archers, a Canadian melodic power metal band that just released their fourth (I think) album, Phantoma. They're so amazing, and even if you don't like metal, I urge you to give them a try.

i recently discovered the band butch baby and i am so obsessed with them. they only have four songs but they are all bangers. they're a punk rock band but they have a saxophonist in the band and its such a unique sound. so obsessed with all four of those songs... xD

i also recently discovered the band tread the shallows, and they must be a new band, cuz they literally only have one song to their name, which came out this year. and its only available on spotify and deezer :x that one song is really good though... its a cool goth rock song about an eldritch god, and its a collab with another cool goth rock band, lesbian bed death !

Devil and the Deep Blue Sea!! They dropped one sort-of album (a recording of them all playing one night) and then vanished off the face of the earth. Their music is so lovely though & they have some of my favorite lyrics

Geese, An American Band.
I didn't know about them until my boyfriend really got into their most recent Studio album, 3D Country, and then I found out they're also opening for one of my favourite bands for an upcoming concert!
Very charming, I do recommend a listen.

Well, not really a 'small discography' in the way that... sadblossom has only released one song so far.
I absolutely love their song Poisoned Suddenly. Spotify threw it into my weekly suggestions playlist last year, and I've been waiting patiently for another release from them ever since. No clue when or if they ever will, but I really hope they do.

Altessa literally only did 3 songs in 2017, but they're one of the best post-scene crash examples of classic scenemo canon post-hardcore / metalcore I've ever seen.

The Natural Born Killers, a brief side project from Max formerly of Escape the Fate, only ever got out one EP, but it's fantastic.

Survive This and A Smile From The Trenches, again, really only have one album (or at least only one album findable -- Survive This did a second album in 2016 but I can't find it) but they're again delightful.

Honestly, there are a lot of short-lived or possibly never even got off the ground (The Vex is one that I got an EP CD from at a used store, loved, and have been completely unable to find even on obsessive databases ever since) bands whose work I like; I document everything on my beloved Music Scene Spreadsheet.

been in longish-term mainline neurodivergent special interest hell with one of such artists which is Fun To Say The Least
oli xl, an electronic experimental artist, with currently just 1 full album & 2 ep-s & 3 singles out. would be 2 full albums by now if not for the label contract hell hes currently trying to wrangle out of :,(
+ several of oli's affiliates whose music ive enjoyed also have rather small discographies ... ingrate (a couple ep-weight things n some singles (few under a prior moniker)), samuelspaniel (1 full, a couple ep-s i think. and the label he has has also mostly been droppin single-weight releases haha), doss (Literally Only Two EP-s cos shes more primarily a dj)

theres prolly more im into that have small discographies but i would prolly go overboard w elaboratin if i went any further :-D
