Zaire nodded as the Veilspun mentioned the dark, pulling a headlamp out of her bag and affixing it carefully around her spore vents to supply her own light. "I can see pretty well in the dark, but this headlamp will make adjusting much easier!" She studies the gorgeous Ancient statues atop the columns before proceeding down the dark hallway. Adventure—and what is sure to be a fascinating discovery—awaits!

The Front Hall
Zaire's tail swished back and forth at the prospect of archaeological evidence the whole way to the manor, her spore vents flaring (much like a cat swiveling their ears in excitement). She patted at the bag affixed to her hip once more, making sure all her tools were in place. Check! It was with curiosity that she peered through the doors, before striding in to meet the small Veilspun awaiting her.

I'm so glad I didn't miss this - I don't seem to have gotten pinged! (Unless I missed the ping, which is entirely possible)

It was a bit of a detour from his goals, but Murdoc was still an archaeologist in training, after all - this excursion could be a great test of skills. And after all, his curiosity had been piqued a bit by this site as well.
Only after arriving did he realize that he had not resupplied his bag with light sources. He sighed and gratefully took a candle. Although his home had trained his dark vision more than the average Nature dragon's, he still didn't think he'd be able to find much in the dark hallway without giving his eyes a long chance to adjust. Instead, he focused his attention on the artifact he could see, the large marble columns.

The Grand Hall
@DismasYves @NocturnistheDark @Tues @cinderrain @Seivel @Leopardmask
The doors creak open slowly, revealing a large darkened and mostly empty room. The grand space looked like it was once used for hosting meetups and events, but now is a shadow of its former self with dusty tables and shrouded chairs. A few chandeliers on the ceiling swing gently from the ceiling while moonlight filters in from large windows, each one a stained window depicting either an Everlux or a Veilspun in a contemplative pose. However, most of the windows that have an Everlux depicted in them seem to be broken, leaving only fragments that only hint to its prior contents. Whether by accident or by design, it remains to be seen.
You can choose to investigate the Veilspun windows, investigate the shattered Everlux windows, or investigate neither before continuing onwards.
After your time spent looking at the windows (or not), you look around at the available exits to the grand hall. There is a faint medicinal smell that wafts in from behind a door tucked away in the shadowed interior wall of the grand hall, while moonlight shines through an open door that sways lightly in a breeze from outside.
Which path will you take~?

As you make your way down the dark hallway, the sconces lie empty, almost inviting you to try and light them. However, despite some effort to try and light the sconces through various means and methods, the sconces don't seem to want to light, leaving the hallway lit up only by the light provided by you. One of the sconces seems to be oddly positioned though, set horizontally instead of vertical like the rest of them.
You can choose to try and realign the sconce or leave it be before continuing onwards.
After deciding if you want to mess with the oddly placed sconce or not, the two pathways leading from the hallway seem to be a large, metal door with an air vent and wires placed above the doorway that snake their way along the ceiling, or another dark hallway that has various picture frames on the walls.

The dust shakes loose from the handle as the door opens, leading into a spacious room, if it wasn't for the massive clutter of boxes and furniture that take up the space inside. It looks like a mishmash of stuff that one would find in a mansion all stuffed into the cramped room. The source of the ticking noise seems to be coming from a small pile of disassembled clockwork creations that look somewhat like a bunch of broken and damaged Monkey Wrenches and Clattercog Engineers. Investigating further, it looks like there are some units that are still intact and able to twitch, which was the source of the ticking noise.
You can choose to pick up a Monkey Wrench, pick up a Clattercog Engineer, or pick up neither before continuing onwards.
After deciding if you want to pick up a small companion or not, you see that one exit to the room leads to a hallway that has some picture frames on the walls, their contents too dark to see currently. The other exit to the storage room is a nondescript door that has an earthy smell wafting in from the room behind it.

((If a player picked up a candle from Venus at the start, they are able to blow it out and teleport to a different room of their choice out of the room choices for that day. This is a one time use that allows you to 'jump' to a different room and make your choice from that room's selection instead of the one you are currently in. Late players are able to join in the game by using this mechanic, and the instructions page and FAQ have been updated to reflect this new mechanic.))

Aria chooses a slightly dented Clattercog Engineer, and then proceeds to examine the paintings in the hallway - surely her glowbulb and candle will illuminate them well enough.
Sili spends... Quite a bit of time trying to light the sconces, fixing the twisted one absentmindedly. After (finally) giving up, Sili looks around, eyes catching on the pictures lining the hallway. "Ooh! What are these?"
The house is creepy, she's not sure where everyone else is splitting off to, and those sconces are rude, but those pictures look neat. With a last rude gesture and a blown raspberry, Sili turns her back on the rude hallways and makes her way further into the dark.

Josephine sighs as she surveys the piles of parts strewn about the room. “Ay loves, what a shame to keep you all forgotten in an untouched room…I would take you all home if I had the space or means to fix you up! But oh, let’s see here…surely the host wouldn’t mind if one of their friends here kept me company within the house.”
With the tips of her wings, Josephine gingerly maneuvers a semi-intact Clattercog Engineer onto her back. It clicks its paws together in a halting pattern as she takes a moment to appraise the two exits. Perhaps the hallway with the frames might illuminate more about her host, or their associates? Somehow, the Veil's words don't ease your mind. You log 'magic matrices' at the back of your mind to reference later, although you don't know what it means. You came here to escape your peers, but if sticking with the herd will keep you safe, then so be it. You only wish you'd brought your companion.
The stairs feel endless. You swear this house is watching you, but you shake off the feeling before it sets in. Paranoia is rarely justified. You've only just stopped jumping at shadows in the outside world, and you're not about to start again.
The thought goes out of the window the second you hear the clock ticking. You sprint towards it, bounding across dusty blankets and mansion junk, before skidding to a halt in front of the pile of pieces. You feel the crushing weight of disappointment, the useless bits and bobs nothing like what you were hoping to see. You poke at them idly, letting the shock of loneliness subside.
You pick up a monkey wrench. Engineers are useless if they can't function, and the wrench could help you in more ways than one. You choose the hall with the picture frames, wondering if you can get a sneak peak about these strange dragons' lives.
