TOPIC | [Thorntail] Not for me I fear
I think, next to Aberrations, they are one of my favourite breeds.
I hope in time that we get less busy genes for them. (I typically hate all of the genes like space/tentcle/medusa.. I prefer my patterns over appendages usually..) I really hope we get points or darts as a tertiary for them eventually.

Ping for my attention!
Oh oh oh quit your howling, it wasn't even that deep of a wound. You know, on second thought.. you’re bleeding quite a lot. Euuugh – best of luck – and off you go
To be honest I'm relieved this breed isn't my thing. I'm on hiatus. I came, I saw, I hatched my eggs and now I can go back to being away without feeling like I'm missing out on anything by not being here.

My only gripe design-wise is that we were given a breed with massive eyes but they hid basically all of the sclera so most eyes types don't show them <////3 I don't get why they were designed this way only for a few eye types to take advantage of the design space

(Wind unusual and ice rare)

Otherwise I'm pretty neutral on the designs. I do think they have steller poses and I do love the new genes they came with, though like most ancients I don't see myself owning more than 3 at most if any

Thorntails are my new favourite breed on the site, and I wouldn't change a single thing about them, and I'm really happy they don't look more "FR generic."

I think they're really adorable and derpy, but at the same time the vibe they give off is more of a familiar vibe than that of a dragon and so they feel more like something the other dragon breeds would keep as pets. I do like them, they just feel more like familiars than dragons is all.

They have some absolutely wonderful genes! And while yeah, they're very different from the other dragons in the game, I have to admit I love the idea of these little bug-eyed critters scuttling about any surface at all, including the ceiling. I feel like they have a serious case of don't-give-a-darn and just go wherever they feel like it. There's tremendous potential for humorous storytelling there. :)

Been combing through this thread and it's relieving how I'm not alone in disliking them. I usually dislike new ancients (only ones I haven't minded were Banescales, Abbies and Cirrus') but with this one? I felt... nothing. The genes are amazing (and I know it'll die off like dusthides when genes get distributed to other ancients [s]and moderns too, please![/s]) but when looking at the species, all I could think of was... "Great, How To Train Your Dragon aesthetics... Welp, moving on."
...and the fact that this is officially our fourth "avoids-fighting-at-all-costs" breed in a row is....another issue entirely for me. I still like them, I think, but nowhere near as much as I've liked some of the other ancients.
This is also a huge problem. The site, in a vain attempt at being safe, is becoming sanitized and now it's bleeding into dragon lore and design. Stop it, take some risks! And before you come for my throat over HTTYD: I loved the first movie and the original run of TV shows, but the dragons designs always bothered me with how they don't work. I get it, "kids drawings coming to life" was the vibe back then, but as a long time dragon enthusiast, the anatomy was driving me insane. The live action does them right and I wish they looked like that from the beginning. Edit: Something else I just realized is that it's not really an ancient design. Had it been a chibi wyvern or just a gecko, it would fit with more modern ancients, but this one seems like a safe design from the Gaoler days. It has hands, it has back feet, it has wings... why not just make it modern? How is it ancient in design? The only thing that makes it so are its line breaking terts.

Innocent eyes make them look like the embodiment of the :pleading: emoji. They can also look like neon screaming chaos goblins. I like both varieties. And they definitely make me think of familiars more than dragons, especially the gecko familiars, but I like the gecko familiars. It’d be adorable to make a dragon really really matchy with a gecko familiar.
Yeah this is a maaaajor issue that I think people aren’t… really acknowledging enough? Part of the reason I used to get so excited about this site was it actually treated dragons like dragons instead of humans with human morals.
