i was gone for a while.
when i came back i was quite lost. there was a lot of new stuff.
but ironically i am far more busy now than i was 4 years ago, and a lot more stressed, and in times of stress i find myself returning. most of what i do that i consider "playing" fr is offsite (drawing, writing etc)
i really put 0 effort into trying to 'keep up'. i check the news, if theres something that interests me i'll remember, otherwise i dont bother. i sell when i have stuff i want to sell, and usually all my money comes from notn anyways. this game is rlly something special and i love it a lot!!

I stick around, but I also don't grind this game like I used to.
When I was in college, I'd be in the coli during breaks, leveling dragons to level 10 and exalting them. Now, I train dragons to level 7 on my days off, if I'm feeling up for it (most days I am Not). I max out Fairgrounds with G&G so I can fund my projects, but some days I skip that. I mostly log on to scavenge tbh.
I used to be a fiend over new familiars that I'd stalk the Marketplace for them, grind all day in the coli for one to drop and sell the extras, or pay the inflated AH price, but now I just don't care lol.
Reflecting the main sentiment in the thread, I just don't have the time like I used to back then. But I still love dressing my dragons, finishing a project and showcasing it in my hibden, creating fandragon plans, posting in the forums here and there. It's a passive game for me, to fill in some downtime.

Oh i get it lol. despite the age of my account ive only played like 2 years. If im busy ill only check in on events, but i dont do any grinding. Id rather play dress up or work on projects.
For me this isnt really a play all day game. Its a check in a couple times a day or just once. Ofc there are those who love to vibe and grind, but yeah thats not me lol. I love this game, but i dont do much. Everyone plays different and thats ok
Its not like a permanent goodbye, more like a see ya later. The game will always be here. I dont see it going anywhere any time soon.

Ive taken a year + break before; started playing in my early 20's in college. Life gets busy sometimes but you can always come back to it ^^

Something that has kept me playing FR is the fact that it never punishes you for inactivity. I can take a break when I'm busy or burnt out, and any missed items are still accessible to the casual player. FR never makes me feel like I have to do all dailies, grind the coli, etc., every day, and I only ever do what I want to do-- which isn't much most days
However, I always find some new project to tempt me. It's a relaxing pastime for me, so I don't think I'll ever 'outgrow' it, but it's totally fine and normal to take a step back from something that isn't working for you now, and come back if/when you feel like it. The game will still be here for you, whatever you decide!

Man I took like a 9 year break lol
FOMO and limited edition constant-update stuff is so prevalent in game design, it's hard to just let yourself be bored or burnt out. It's ok to acknowledge that we just aren't wired to do the same thing forever before we start needing new enrichment in our enclosures, though, you can always take a break. It'll still be here when the itch comes back again!

Like a lot of others, I also go through phases with FR. Actually, with every hobby of mine lol. I always burn out eventually and need some time away to recharge and focus on other interests. There’s nothing wrong with that! I’m of the mindset that you should do what serves you, and if FR is becoming too much or you’re just not into it at the moment, then it’s time to take a break.
The great thing about FR is that your dragons don’t die, your hoard doesn’t get deleted, and your account doesn’t get closed. You can literally disappear for a year and come back one day and it will be like you never left. Shoot, I’m pretty sure they even implemented a thing where if you come back after 6+ months of not logging in, they will feed all your dragons for free. I know this because I’ve been gone for that long (and longer) in the past.
Edit: After some digging, looks like energy replenishes when you log back in after only 45 days of inactivity, which is way less than I thought! Even better!

If feeding your dragons is too much, I might suggest the hibernal den. It's a space you can put your dragons where they won't get hungry. I'm very particular on the visual side, so I make sure everyone is well-fed before they go in there, lol. You can't bond with familiars on dragons in the hibden, though.
All my lore dragons + fandragons are in there, and it's a good place to store my projects too!
Either way... Flight Rising is very good in the way that players aren't punished too harshly for taking breaks. NOTN was peak gaming for me, but now that it's over I'd like to rest a little from FR tasks. And that's perfectly fine. We all have lives of our own.
