ned and zheng both call ed a killer and both times stede visibly bristles at it, because he knows ed doesn't like being seen that way, and he's so protective about that - "they drew him to look like a ghoul" etc - but he also would never break ed's confidence by telling his secret, so you can see him having to restrain himself from going WELL ACTUALLY BLACKBEARD IS ABSOLUTELY LOVELY AND TECHNICALLY HAS ONLY EVER PERSONALLY KILLED ONE PERSON WHO REALLY REALLY DESERVED IT--
