General PSA's for begginer alt crafting
- superglue heats up when in contact with fiber, your craft can start smoking or even catch on fire
- you can wash clothing painted with acrylic paint in the washing machine if you turn it inside out and use the lowest temperature
- don't put painted clothes in the dryer.
- you can wash clothes with metal bits in the washing machine but use the handwashing setting, dry the metal bits with a paper towel before hanging them to dry, and know that it WILL be loud
- synthetic dye is needed to dye synthetic fibers and requires a long time simmering in a boiling pot. This WILL stink up the house and you NEVER want to make food in that pot again
- faux leather is vinyl not leather. Get vinyl paint to paint on it
- don't use your teeth as tools, they don't regenerate. Reconstructing enamel costs a small fortune (ask me how I know.)
- when handsewing a lot through thick fabric get thin needles, it will require less force and be less taxing on your wrists. When machine sewing get a higher grade needle (~130 for jean)
- embroidery floss is overpriced and not as strong as it looks. For sewing on heavy stuff get denim thread, it will last forever
- don't feed a 60$ home sewing machine ten layers of denim before you learn how much a servicing fee costs, these things are dellicate
- spray paint is best applied from 30-40cm away, in swift movements. Putting too much or applying from too close will cause drips. You can sand them down and apply a new layer of paint AFTER they dry. Wipe the can nozzle after painting if it's messy, you don't want it to clog and become unusable
- water based markers on fabric will bleed, if not instantly then with time, alcohol markers will fade with time
- most fabric glues are machine washable up to a certain temperature. modgepodge is not waterproof, hitack is handwash only. Check the instructions
- the flatter the surface the easier hot glue will peel off. Faux leather stands no chance, fibers like yarn will hold it best, but is impossible to remove the glue from them in the future
- rivets are a thing that exists, only require a hammer to install and can be used as permanent fabric attachment
- studs, gromets and other metal junk at small fabric stores are laughably overspriced
- acetone (found in nail polish remover) will remove acrylic stains out of furniture, flooring and faux leather, if used in excess can damage the laquer. Can also be used to remove prints and glue off of plastic (do a small test before commiting, might melt the plastic it it's grade is low)
- residue from stickers (and k-tape) can be removed with oil
- acrylic stains cannot be removed out of clothing or carpet so protect your area before painting and don't wear clothes you care about
- if your thread keeps getting tangled or snagging while handsewing try waxing it
- you can lock in screw-in spikes with screw lock glue if you're scared of them falling off because they unscrew
- you can add washers to screw-in spikes if you're scared of them falling through flimsy fabric or too big of a hole
- if you're making anything out of soda cans have a metal file on hand, they are deceptively sharp and will hurt you and rip through fabric you're installing them in
- bleach can be found in mold killing spray (don't touch that shit with bare hands. chemical burn.)
- fabric paints are no different from slightly dilluted acrylic. You can make it yourself by adding a bit of fabric softener to acrylic or honestly even water
- if you are setting anything with an iron use parchment paper or a pressing cloth to pervent your stuff from sticking to your iron and ruining it
- if you want a safety pin somewhere permanently pinch it shut with pliers
- as much as you can, avoid putting glue on clothing, it makes it really hard to change your decisions later on and upcycle the project in the future
- kiss your friends
I think it's actually cool and great not to have any especially specific descriptors for your gender and/or orientation. just do whatever you want. yeehaw.
the way people talk about gender and orientation often has an implied understanding that through enough introspection/reading/fucking around and finding out you'll eventually arrive at the True Answer but actually that's uh. listen it's not gonna be the experience everyone has and that's fine, especially since the language we currently have to explain gender and attraction are pretty recent and relatively limited (as all language is!) and it's like. it's fine not to jive with that. you don't have to find a box you fit in perfectly and you also don't have to build a new box for yourself, you can just exist in whatever way feels right to you.
listen. There's a whole mentality shift that needs to happen culture wide here, from the schools to the public infrastructure to pet ownership to the justice system
The proper response to your dog doing a natural behavior you dislike (digging/barking/protecting etc) it to give them an appropriate time and place to engage in that behavior
The proper response to skateboarders damaging infrastructure is to build more and better skate parks, or build skate elements into the public infrastructure on purpose.
The proper response to homeless people sleeping on park benches is to build them houses.
you see how there's like, a commonality at play here?
The proper response to a disruption is to address the root of the disruption directly, not somehow attack the disruption itself -
you don't invent a muffler by swinging a bat at the engine noise, you don't relieve your hunger by punching yourself in the stomach, you don't resolve public unrest by sending armed men to control them and you don't prevent homeless people using bus shelters as a roof by removing the bus shelters.
a whole ass shift in a basic mindset, i'm tellin' you. We need it.
Might fuck around and paper my town with these. Feel free to join me.
Would you be willing to post the files for these so we can have the best quality copy for printing purposes?
Here's a folder with the files! I couldn't get the last one to PDF correctly with the image, so it's still text.
Just a reminder from me (a military brat) and my parents (both military from military families): The most definitive way to know a recruiter is lying to you is to listen closely to what they're saying. If you hear sounds, they're lying.
Lots of folks own bad cars. Owning an interesting bad car, though? That's where you'll get my respect. Anyone can pick up a misfiring Infiniti G35 with the lower half of its drivers' door missing, but it's not a compelling package. Show up with a wheezing rotary-swapped MGB GT, and you can be King Shit of Beater Island for very little cash outlay.
People who aren't "into" cars like to imagine that car people all fantasize about the expensive cars. A Ferrari is pretty pricey, and flashy, and rich people drive them, but if you ask the folks I hang out with, it's not an object of desire. Sure, it would be fun to beat on for a little while until the bearings come out the top, and then swap in whatever Cuban diesel tractor engine you can find in the corner of the garage. You can't buy that from a dealership, mostly because what they are really selling you is a lifestyle.
Now, you don't need to heavily modify your car to be interesting either. Sometimes, just buying a car that nobody else has could do it. My neighbour has a Suzuki Kizashi, and if you know what that looks like without having to do a Google image search, we should probably hang out sometime. If that thing ever goes up for sale, I'm going to be over there that same day, offering an insultingly low amount of money for it. I can roll that thing up to my local burger meet and everyone will be staring at it instead of the guy with a Camaro. He's trying too hard to have a "good car," which is a moral failing.
What I'm trying to get at is this: the best way to have fun with cars is to get a fun car. Listen to that little voice in your head that tells you what to do, that you ignore all the time. Whatever mental illness and/or lifelong childhood trauma you're holding onto can be a helpful method for selecting a unique beater. And don't be afraid to just randomly show up at a used car dealership and demand to drive the first thing you see with a logo you don't recognize. Salespeople think in brands, and being ignorant of the very concept of brands weakens them deeply. Then you can get a pretty good deal. I'll wave and give you that little half-nod when you're broken down on the side of the road. I'd stop, but my brakes don't work.
*scrolling tumblr* hmmm. i agree with the sentiment of this post, but the phrasing feels off to me. it doesn’t really have that Reblog factor, you know? *scrolls* oh good, a post that just says “i jerk off till my penis scrweam” . i better reblog this

how do i say this. if you're a smut writer and you're looking to improve your smut writing you kind of have to read horror books if you intend to improve through reading traditional writing. mainstream 'spicy' romances do not come close to the sheer visceral graphic depiction in horror. like these things are genuinely connected. i cant explain but take my word for it. im saying this as a huge scaredy cat. but you have to trust me
there is really no other genre that so properly covers those big feelings and goes into such detail about the physical sensations like horror does. the blood and guts or the hollowness. it's all parallel to skin and fullness. like do you see what i mean
bless OP for putting into words what i've been trying to articulate. when my brain is in the Writing Place, i end up writing a lot of smut and... horror-adjacent stuff? psychological horror? i read and write darkfic, is what i'm getting at, and i do consider what i look for and what i make for myself to be in that genre. i don't tend to go in for particularly bloody or gory works just because too much of that is my squick, but mild body horror and monsters and psychological stuff gets my attention, especially when you get into themes of perception of reality, autonomy, social engineering, that sort of thing.
having read/written smut and horror separately and together, they're sister genres. the umph that you get from psychological or body horror is made of the same building blocks as effective, filthy smut. my sex scenes have improved as i've written darker stories.
both subjects are about intimacy, what you can do with it, what people are like without it or when it's withheld from them, either between characters or a character's intimacy with themselves. it's the same reason why, say, a lot of scenes of violence in non-horror properties end up feeling sexy or why villain shipping is so so popular.
also, it can't be left unsaid... the physical act of sex is gross (positive, in this context, all of this is positive). it's squishy, awkward, and strange. horror doesn't tend to shy away from the inherent awkward squishiness of the body or the sensitivity and strangeness of the mind and has made a whole genre out of effectively leveraging them instead. writing good porn is the same, just with some of the dials adjusted. sex is already kind of a gross weird thing to be doing, that's kind of part of the point. if you're in the market for writing explicit smut, leaning into that is the best way to make it filthier and more effective.
Yeah I said something similar yesterday but we can NOT let what happened to Renee Good cloud what happened to everyone else at the hands of these SS Demons!!!
Because we can’t disregard one person if we’re for human rights!
The above screenshot reads:
A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year's Eve. And like Renee Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter. I need y'all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims. (Christopher Webb @cwebbonline.com)
The second screenshot above reads:
Renee Nicole Good wasn't the first killed by ICE...
