I mean yeah I definitely see where the comparison comes from. It’s fair. I guess it just comes from a personal gripe I have with people (reasonably) hating on kimblee for commiting genocide and killing innocent people when roy and riza and hughes and everyone else in the amestrian military did the same thing and don’t have the same criticisms thrown their way. Well, depends where in the fandom you are. I was complaining about what I saw in a tiktok comment section lmao. I see far more talk about the horrors that, say, Roy committed here on tumblr. Which is good.

So like. Action wise, feel free to call him an idf solider. Absolutely fair game if you’re also calling all the other amestrian soldiers the same.

Then there’s personal beliefs. How he thinks about the war and the people he’s killing. This doesn’t align with the IDF soldier comparison. Kimblee killing ishvalens has nothing to do with the fact that they are ishvalen. Kimblee does not need to dehumanise a group of people to kill them, as soldiers often do. It’s for their own sanity so they can continue to view murder as wrong and hold onto their humanity, while doing the very same thing, killing people. Kimblee would be just as happy if the genocide was on drachman boarders, Creta, it wouldn’t matter. What matters to him is his art, his music, his alchemy. And killing people with it.

Kimblee holds no patriotism and would move to drauchma at the drop of a hat if it meant better opertunities to blow people up.

So. Not racist, not doing it out of patriotism. He’s kinda just using the military to get what he wants. As you said, he does see the ishvalens as people. In my opinion, you can’t call him an IDF soldier for his beliefs. And if you’re calling him that for his actions, you better be calling out all the characters that participated in the ishvalen genocide.
