I did not want to become a George Russell fan. It was at no point one of my intents or goals. However, when you become an Alex fan you get a free subscription to being a George fan and he has entirely won me over. He’s so unbelievably camp. Williams era George? Incredible. Every insane word he says on one of these streams I am hanging on the edge of my seat. He is literally 50 years old in a 23 year olds body. He is shady and camp. He would KILL on drag race
and if i said not enough people are mad about how they handled kali and that she arguably has had the most trauma bc she lost her freedom, autonomy, and only family she'd ever have and was treated horribly by the characters in the show and the viewers until the very moment she was shot and died for zero reason. oh and she was never going to be more than a plot device to save el, when both of them deserved to be free, loved, and happy after surviving abuse.
you can just tell this shit was written by men.

Imagine being Jonathan Byers, you're quarantined in the town that hates you, sleeping on a couch in your estranged girlfriend's family basement, every day you wake up and Steve Harrington decides to have a competition for your girlfriend's attention, your mom is solely focused on your brother, your brother is mad you didn't set the alarm even though he's 15, the only adult giving you advice is the middle aged conspiracy theorist who owns the bunker you lost your virginity in, and also it's the apocalypse.
And then you and your girlfriend break up in the Upside Down.
also I love that suzanne wrote katniss and haymitch in first person pov but with coryo she was like “third person for you… you get some distance, creep.”
I ALSO THOUGHT ABOUT THIS BUT I think it's very intentional in the sense that it's fitting with the character. Coriolanus doesn't want anyone too close, he won't let anyone really know what's going on inside his head and that includes you as the reader. It gives "unreliable narrator" energy in a way it feels like he's also manipulating you by letting you see only what he wants they way he wants. You'll never have a connection with Snow the way you have with Haymitch or Katniss because his character would never allow it.
No no it’s cool I love that the Percy Jackson show is airing at the peak of media literacy decline. I think it’s so cool that even though the show has explicitly said that Luke is being manipulated with the line “Luke has good reason to hate the gods and Kronos used that to manipulate him. I want to get him away from Kronos.” The audience still refuses to engage with his character beyond a surface level understanding, refuses to see any nuance in Luke’s character arc or extend any empathy towards him. Including Hearing that he took the biggest room and automatically assuming he took it just to look cool, instead of taking a minute remember that he hasn’t had a space to himself since he was nine years old, especially paired with the line “little nicer than cabin 11 huh?” Him fighting with Annabeth, saying hurtful things and instantly calling him a douche without taking 5 seconds to stop and think that maybe just maybe that was Kronos’ way of isolating him from the people that actually care about him. Particularly after the line “I want to get him away from Kronos” as he saying those things right next to Kronos’ body. The audience not acknowledging his trauma and acting like he decided to wage war for shits n giggles. Also ignoring the signs of Kronos active manipulation, the boat, back biter, Luke’s speech about the golden age. People refusing to see Kronos as the real villain and calling Luke equally as bad or worse, when infact a nineteen year old boy and a centuries old titan are absolutely not on equal standing.
you know what's funny about the all the supportive internet commentary re: the murdered health insurance exec? it's weirdly reminiscent of that scene in A Christmas Carol where the ghost of Christmas future shows Scrooge all those people who are bad-mouthing him after his death
like...bizarrely reminiscent
WIBTA for taking advantage of my boss’ possible manic episode?
I know this already sounds bad but hear me out.
So I (30M) am the sole employee of this guy (62M) who’s honestly just a miserable boss and an even more miserable person. It sucks so bad working for him—the pay is horrendous, he’s verbally abusive, and the working conditions are awful (in the winter I literally have to stay bundled up the whole work day because he refuses to put the heat on in the office). He wouldn’t even give me holidays off if it wasn’t for the fact that there’s basically nothing to do those days because everywhere else is closed. I’m almost positive he unironically thinks poor people should die if they can’t work. His nephew (aka his only living relative and just the nicest guy) came by yesterday to invite him to Christmas dinner and he told him he’d see him in hell.
I cannot stress this enough—it’s BAD. I’d quit, but it’s been hard finding a better job and I’ve got four kids at home, including one with special needs.
Anyway, so here’s where I’m wondering if I’d be the asshole. Today was Christmas Day and he showed up at my house out of nowhere (huge red flag, I know). At first I thought he’d forgotten I had the day off and he was here to chew me out, which was worrying enough, but then his whole demeanor changed and he was super happy and excited and talking about how he was going to raise my salary. He even mentioned possibly making me a partner in the firm.
Now if that was it, I’d feel a little weird about the suddenness of it but it’d be fine. I’m not going to complain about having more money to feed my family. But then he started talking about how he wanted to pay our mortgage off. He talked about wanting to pay for our son to get the very expensive medical care that’s probably going to save his life. He mentioned at one point that he was going to be donating a huge amount of money to charity too—I knew he was rich but it staggered me. All this from a guy who doesn’t (didn’t?) even want to turn on the heat or the lights because it costs too much money.
It was such a sudden and drastic change that happened very literally overnight and now I’m kind of concerned he’s having a manic episode or something. I really, really want to accept his sudden generosity (I probably will; my wife is all for it and thinks he owes it to us), and I would love to believe that he’s truly had a sudden change of heart (an actual Christmas miracle lol) but I’m just worried about the possible consequences of accepting huge financial gifts like this from someone who I believe might be experiencing some kind of break from reality. Even if there’s nothing legally wrong with it, I’m worried about the ethics of it.
TLDR, my asshole boss might be in the middle of a mental breakdown. WIBTA if I accepted his offer to pay off my mortgage and my son’s medical expenses?
