joker with an earring voice. bi so curious. sorry. fuck. sorry. this post sucks so fucking bad.

Literally the fact that the average person doesn’t get that ‘ritual’ refers to any repeated behavior that conveys/creates meaning specific to a cultural context and does Not mean ‘grandiose solemn religious rite’, and an object having ‘ritual functions’ (even specifically religious ones) is Not mutually exclusive with it also having purposes of play, everyday practical use, aesthetic beauty, erotic functions, etc, is a major barrier towards casual learning about history. There is so much not getting through to you if you don’t get that.

Especially because a lot of people have this anti-intellectual bent on it where they decide that academics uniformly have their heads up their own asses and just go around ascribing profound religious significance to every historical item willy nilly and need a layman to explain to them that it’s OBVIOUSLY just a dildo

humans will see a swamp and build a city on it and then spend the next 2,000+ years struggling to keep it from turning back into a swamp

everybody saying a different city is cracking me up

YES! MOST OF FLORIDA! And they keep destroying more swamp to build hideous condos on top of it and then the condos sink into the swamp and no one is happy. It gets to a point where you’re like. Go live anywhere else. Why are you still doing this to this poor wetland?

unparalleled interaction on reddit... someone made the comment "who the fuck would want to read lord farquaad testicular torsion erotica" and reddit user FarquaadsFuckDoll replied "I can think of one potential reader"

when applied to drinks, "dry" means "without sugar". therefore it follows that sugary drinks can be called "wet". the meanings of the terms "hot" and "cold" when applied to drinks are obvious. thus the aspect of any drink can be determined.

for instance, green tea, freshly steeped and served without additives, is hot and dry, and therefore has an aspect of fire.

a mocha, on the other hand, while hot, is sweet, and therefore wet, and thus has an an aspect of air.

lemonade, which is wet and cold, having a water aspect.

finally vodka, which is also cold, but dry, has an earth aspect

for anyone in or out of minneapolis, here’s a list of organizations on the ground out here daily helping people i haven’t seen mentioned by other posts sharing resources. most of these are south minneapolis located and/or focused because that’s where i’m located and i’m beyond caring about doxxing myself at this point

joyce uptown food shelf - no questions asked food pantry, in need of financial donations, at capacity for material ones

longfellow neighbors - community fund assisting with rent/utilities, healthcare, legal help and transport access, in need of financial donations

smitten kitten, wrecktangle pizza, and twin cities leather - accepting cash to be handed directly to people seeking refuge and assistance + material donations (specifically requesting menstrual products, baby products, and tobacco), if you are in person they are being physically targeted and stalked by ice agents trying to follow them on their distribution routes and have requested anyone able to show up physically and help drive them away

the familia barber studio - accepting material donations (nonperishable foods and toiletries) and financial donations for a food drive from tuesday 1/13 through saturday 1/17

LSFDistro and north country food alliance - lsfdistro is associated with ncfa as an anti food waste and food delivery service focused on the lake street area which has been targeted by ice agents since mid last year, both are accepting monetary donations, and lake street food distro is accepting material food donations (specifically requesting oil, butter, rice, flour, formula, and toiletries)

here is a mutual aid “clearinghouse” for additional organizations on the ground and direct assistance to families affected by the raids - when i can, i’ve just been scrolling through the list of gfm links at the bottom and donating to one at random

wild watching the rest of the us talk about ice invading their state or city and how they're doing this or that and its terrifying that our nation has descended to this and this is the biggest or worst or lowest or whatever other superlative....

and they're just describing what daily life has been like in el paso for upwards of twenty years. but no one cared when it happened here, because it was happening to the people its "supposed" to happen to; mexican immigrants, many undocumented.

just feels. fucked. that this city has been under the boot of ice for so fucking long. and i have never once seen it mentioned or talked about or acknowledged. i'll bet you money the vast majority of ice's arrests are still undocumented mexicans in texas.

but no one talks about that, because thats what is "supposed" to happen, and everyone decided over a decade ago when mexican kids were being put in cages outside our town and that made national news, that they were fine with it.

a big part of the reason we have the fear of cops we (me and my systemmates) have is from growing up with ice sweeping where we lived. sometimes neighbors would disappear and we'd be like "where did my friend beto go?" and someone would say he and his family didn't have papers, so they got taken. just disappeared, and there was nothing anyone could do about it.

under the biden administration we saw ice taking people just about every month. just pulling over trucks and arresting everyone inside. no one cared then.

all of the ice activities that have been making national and international news trace their origins back here. el paso sent ice agents to chicago. and i don't say this to downplay the horror, everything ice is doing is absolutely terrible, but we were on tumblr in 2009 trying to get people to care and the only ones who did were overwhelmingly other latine people and a handful of Black bloggers.

people here are just really thoroughly defeated and broken. there are still protests every now and then, and at least one small activist group, but nothing has anywhere near the energy or presence other places have because we as a city and as communities have been crushed for decades. people here don't expect things to get better, they haven't in twenty years.
