You know technology literacy is dying because I saw this meme with 76k likes

F11 the full screen button? You’re scared of the full screen button? F10?? It opens the menu bar???

Computers are so scary what if I accidentally hit F12 in a steam game and it takes a screenshot. What if I press shift + F12 while in word and accidentally save my document 😖

F8 is the only scary key. Cause that’s Quick Load. So many hours of progress lost because of an accidental button press.

do you ever think about how if you dive into the ocean and go deeper and deeper you will pass through layers of darker and darker blue until everything is black and cold and the pressure will be so intense that it will kill you without protection but if you keep going you will find little glowing specks of light, and if you go up into the sky and go higher and higher you will pass through layers of darker and darker blue until everything is black and cold and the pressure will be so intense that it will kill you without protection but if you keep going you will find little glowing specks of light

sometimes a post makes you get out of bed at 230am to spend a quick hour on something like this

[Image description: A color image in portrait orientation. The background transitions smoothly from a starfield on black at the top, through dark blue, medium blue, lighter blue, then back to medium, dark, and another starfield at the bottom. In the very center is a black silhouette of a human figure, appearing to float on its back as on the surface of water. Above it in the blue "sky" area are a curved, thin white line like the contrail of a jet aircraft, and two small black silhouettes of seabirds. Below in the deep dark blue, just before the starfield, are some silhouettes of fish. /end description]

i was jumanji’d too when i was a kid but no one cared

i was also zathura’d. i got both jumanji’d and zathura’d. Statistical impossibility but sad and true

Can we not victim blame

Were you zathura‘d while you were jumanji‘d how would that even work. Poorly I think

Most non-Minnesotans have no idea what this means, but to put it plainly: we're raised with not just the expectation but essentially -programming- to assist others who get stuck during the winter. We'll help people we'd otherwise punch on sight if they're stuck in the snow and ice, for zero reward.

This is the level of rage we're at with ICE. I'm not joking to say it's almost physically painful to not help someone stuck like that, and it's worth it because the people stuck are ICE.

The only way we have to express how mad we are above this is channeling the First Minnesota all over again.

The Scandinavians who settled in Minnesota brought with them their Norse understanding of the laws of hospitality: you do not fuck around with winter, that if someone needs help in the winter, you help them as long as they don't actively try to hurt you or your neighbors. Food, shelter, labour, whatever, if you can help in winter, you do.

ICE has violated the "actively try to hurt you or your neighbors" bit of the laws of hospitality, and thus the hospitality has been revoked. They are free to feel winter's wrath against those who would bring harm to the community.

I like to think that Lady Skaði would be proud of her distant children.

this reminds me of the mud wizard who walked through everything without any problems while the police officers kept sliding and falling and getting stuck, you can watch it right here.

for context, this was during anti-coal protests in lützerath which went on for days and included people being forcibly removed, injured, or otherwise violated by the police. they showed up in riot gear against people simply sitting and camping and wanting to protect their forests. it was a really big deal here.

I have reposted this before but I am always impressed by how well-thought out every spot is. There is no good place to sit. “Oh, Eomer’s cool, I’ll sit with him” but then you will have to listen to Gollum and Bilbo the entire flight. “I’ll sit with Sam!” Pippin and Merry will be turning around the entire flight to talk to him. Sure, you can sit with Elrond, but you’re going to deal with him staring down Aragorn and Arwen. You may love Legolas and Gimli, but will you love sitting BETWEEN them? Just when you see a spot that seems okay, somewhere behind or across the aisle is a terrible option. This is so good. No good seats on the LOTR plane

no i think 17 looks good

This is working off the incorrect premise that you would not want to sit between Merry and Pipin and make two new friends and not be bored. Seat 9 also comes with very vew villains around it.

That said: this is also working off the incorrect premise that you're going to get to sit anywhere. Even assuming the balrog does not set the whole plane on fire while boarding, that's going to be a battlefield before everyone's even finished getting on the plane. Assuming anyone makes it to the plane from the Gate.

The correct choice is: any other airport because that one's not going to be standing very long.

The correct choice is 10. you can still make new friends with Merry and Pippin, you can talk with Sam and thereby make the flight more pleasant for Gandalf because he‘s not gonna get blabbered to by the three hobbits but can join conversation when he wants and is not busy keeping an eye on the Nine. You have the Gimli Legolas Barrier to Denethor who are gonna be clowning on that ass. Which is gonna be nice in the background. And Saruman is gonna be too much of a Snob to interact with you unless you and your new hobbit friends will bully him for righteous reasons.

10 is the correct seat.

Concept I came up with a while ago but finally added more art to it for context-

Basically me casting Jean Bart as like. The opposite of Trebol as a mentor for Doffy.

Will probably draw more later >3o/

Edit: also applies to contacts btw

Please share btw i wanna hear about you guys' experiences

I am farsighted. Like 2 and 2.5 dpt I think. I can deal without my glasses, even read if I don‘t have the text to close to my eyes and am legally allowed to drive without them. But if I go 2 hours or more without them, especially when reading I‘ll have a killer migraine for the next few days. So I just wear them.

Sometimes I can still hear their voice

Breaking: TikTok is better bc it’s more hostile towards humanity

The lack of video content is what kept us here... I thought we all agree that the best feature of this hellhole was and always will be anonymity.

Tumblr's not asking for my phone number. It's not going through my contacts to try and connect me with my fucking colleagues. I can come here and talk about whatever I want without anyone ever seeing my face or hearing my voice. I don't have to censor myself and hide my interests or enthusiasm out of fear of consequences it might have in my real life.

I think the biggest misunderstanding they have of Tumblr is that they think of it as a social media platform when in actuality it's a blogging platform with social features.

I like the use of Metroman here because if there's one thing Tumblr users collectively agree on it's that we want everyone to think we're dead

Huh.

So the concept is that had Arlong attacked two years earlier, Bellemere wouldn't have lost like she did, that she only lost so badly because she was half-starved.

So Bellemere survives, gets Nami and Nojiko out, and trains up to go after Arlong. She ends up on Dawn Island, because I said so, and ends up eventually adopting Ace, Sabo, and Luffy.

This AU hinges heavily on Bellemere being a very promising marine that managed to become an officer while shirking any lessons or trainings that would have seen her get stationed outside of the East Blue.

From what little we've see of her, she definitely had observation haki (she knew Arlong and his pirates were there before they got near her) but she didn't know what it was (she attributed it to their scent, which could have been an insult, but given that she didn't use her observation haki for the duration of the fight indicates that she probably genuinely didn't know). There is a possibility that she had armament haki, in that she struck Arlong, a shark Fishman with a body built to withstand insane amounts of pressure, and brought him to the ground. Again, she doesn't continue to utilize it, so we can assume that she didn't know how, or didn't really understand what she was doing.

I'm also gonna giver her conqueror's haki because i want to.

As a marine, she learned what she deemed would be useful in the East Blue, and had no desire to go anywhere else. The Grand Line was just a strip of backbreaking work, the other seas weren't her stomping grounds, and while she did join the marines, prior to that she was very much a thug (as told by the villagers when they talk about her in the manga). Thugs want to stretch a little, but don't usually actually want to leave what's comfortable to them.

So in this AU, Arlong hits two years earlier, and while she does get her ass kicked due to lack of knowledge and training, she lives to get stronger and come back to finish the job. To be entirely fair, he did try to kill her, but it just didn't take this time.

All of this backstory so that I can show you a set of chapters, super down the line, that I did in the outline for this.

No, Mihawk did not go down on Bellemere, other stuff happened and Perona loves to gossip even if she doesn't really get what actually went on.

Other things of note; misunderstandings on an information gathering level resulting in wanted posters for Gol D. Nojiko, a pirate getting labeled as the face of revolution and the World Government can't fix it in time, Big Mom vs Mom Bellemere, Accidental Adult Child Adoption, throwing a surgically removed uterus at an admiral, "I may not be a good parent, but I'm better than you, and at least I tell my kids I'm sorry", and more adventures following a thug trying her hardest to win at this mom thing and deciding that the best way to do that is to collect as many kids as possible, even if they aren't kids anymore.

Let me get this straight:

Legolas: follows Aragorn to help him carry a bench

Aragorn: immediately distracted by yelling at Theoden

Legolas: flails about trying to carry the bench alone

Hey, you know what I noticed? Looking collectively at the books and movies of LoTR, every member of the Fellowship sings at some point…except Boromir.

The hobbits do a lot of singing in general, and Frodo even writes something for Gandalf in Lothlorien. Aragorn sings about Tinuviel and Legolas sings about Nimrodel. Gandalf comes on screen the first time singing “The Road Goes Ever On.” Gimli sings in Moria one drafty night.

And Boromir sings nothing. He does not get one moment to be anything but a warrior. No gentleness, no levity - only a lot of doubt they are making the right decisions, anger when his advice is ignored, and fear for his people.

But hey, you know when he gets to be song-adjacent? When he dies and Aragorn and Legolas sing a song about him.

Our man deserved some time to exist outside of war.

lord of the rings really was lightning in a bottle. it shouldn’t have worked but by god it did. peter jackson, who had no filmmaking education and was mostly known for making low budget splatter movies, had no business going out and changing the movie industry like that but he did. return of the king showed up at the oscars and became one of the most awarded movies of all time. to this day it holds the record for the highest clean sweep. hollywood will keep trying to recreate that magic with bigger budgets and high profile actors and they will keep failing. i look at the state of these blockbusters where everything is smoothed over by soulless cgi and actors are acting opposite tennis balls and they will never hold a candle to the pure heart and soul and craft of the lord of the rings. every single person involved in that project loved being part of it and it fucking shows. i’m so thankful the stars aligned the way they did for these movies to happen like that.

I think the fact that The Hobbit series was such a letdown also really drives this home.

It shouldn’t have been so bad. It had the same director, some of the same cast, some of the same production team. I quite enjoyed the first movie so I saw a lot of interviews and read the art books and there was plenty of love in that project—the design team put an incredible amount of thought into creating dwarf culture and the actors matched that energy, from Richard “I am Become Oakenshield” Armitage all the way to William Kircher, whose character doesn’t speak a word of English and yet he painstakingly wrote out internal monologues and got them translated so he could improvise accurate Dwarvish if necessary along with his scripted lines.

But its budget was too high. The studio got too greedy—I would have completely supported their decision to split the book into two movies in order to bulk it up and tie it into the og trilogy, but a trilogy was much too ambitious. And it relied way too much on CGI. To this day I remain haunted by a moment in the behind the scenes footage where Ian McKellen broke down in tears because he was filming the Bag End scene opposite thirteen tennis balls and he just quietly said “this is not why I became an actor” to himself.

That was the moment they should have been like fuck, okay, let’s scrap this and start over, we can’t do this to Ian McKellen because you can’t fucking do that to Ian McKellen.

But we’ll always have the og.

Non-croc post for a change of pace Since it came up in a conversation I ended up googling if the rhinos in the Salzburg Zoo get out in Winter and not only do they, it also makes for some impressive photos Images by Manuel Bukovics

I highly recommend going to the zoo when the weather is "bad" i.e. raining, snowy, cold, windy etc. not just because the crowds are way smaller, but because different animals are active in different kinds of weather, and not necessarily the ones you'd think. Most critters take it easy during summer so they don't over heat, which is when most people go to the zoo, but are way more active the rest of the year

In Colorado the big cats, elephants and hoofstock LOVE when it snows and are out playing instead of taking an all-day heat siesta. The primates, birds and for some reason the anteater eally like the high wind days. Bears, hippos and a lot of the smaller mammals like porcupines and red pandas love the rain.

I also recommend going to any nighttime activities or zoo sleepovers for the same reasons: many of these animals are straight-up nocturnal. Bigs cats, hyenas, wild canines, hippos, rhinos and a weird number of birds including penguins tend to be more active at night.
