Choose who to welcome for your first home reservation

When you set up your home listing, you have the option to make your first booking available only to a guest who already has some experience.

Types of guests

When setting up your first listing, you have two options for the types of guests you'd like to welcome:

Any Airbnb guest

  • Anyone with an Airbnb account can book to stay at your listing.
  • There’s a greater number of guests available to book your place.
  • You may get your first booking sooner.

An experienced guest

  • Only guests who have previous booking experience on Airbnb will be able to view and book your listing.
  • You get extra peace of mind because you’re welcoming someone to your place that’s already familiar with Airbnb, so they understand how hosting works, and know what to expect from you.
  • After your first guest has checked out, the listing automatically becomes available to any Airbnb guests.

Choosing your first home guest

Choose who to welcome as your first guest on desktop

  1. Click Menu > Account settings
  2. Click Your first guest
  3. Under Choose who to welcome for your first reservation, select either An experienced guest or Any Airbnb guest
  4. Click Save

Experienced guest qualifications

To be considered an experienced guest, someone needs to meet these requirements:

  • Verified ID: As part of the identity verification process, we may ask guests to provide Airbnb with their legal name, address, Government ID, and/or other documentation. This information is kept private and not shared with hosts.
  • Confirmed payment details: The account holder needs to have a payment method on file with Airbnb.
  • Three completed stays: Guests should have successfully completed at least three home stays booked through Airbnb.
  • Good track record: Guests are encouraged to maintain a positive history of home stays on the platform.

Building up a good track record

The majority of Airbnb guests are respectful and well-behaved. In addition to behaving in accordance with our ground rules, guests who stay in listings on Airbnb must meet these guest standards:

  • Respect surrounding communities
  • Respect listings
  • Respect hosts’ rules

Guests that have recently broken Airbnb policies—or house rules set by hosts—don't qualify as experienced guests.

Note: Experienced guest status isn’t an endorsement of guests by Airbnb.
