I wantd to suggest; for better exporting expirience; if godot would allow individual export template download, as everytime a new version gets released , it does not comply with the previous templates and the user is required to download the full gigabite worth of export templated even if the user just exports to one platform only.
so here’s my suggestion:
allow users to download individual export templates or platform based tpz files. user shoul be able to just get their prefered platform o a release plus debug template combined tpz files that they can refrence in editor setings->general->export->templates option.
integrate the easier export templates like platform native [ windows for windows, linix for linux, etc] or web export directly into the final build so that user would be able to export to their native platform [ofc exporting to Out ofnative would take the templates].
i hope my suggesions get thought through before final godot 4.4 + releases.

-form: user that is still stuggling from bugs on android version of godot [yes… i am the one from andoid testing community,… the engine at latest relese candidate 1 just does not sohow text on screen most of time.]

If this enhancement will not be used often, can it be worked around with a few lines of script?
perhaps. but i am not a master.
Is there a reason why this should be core and not an add-on in the asset library?
