Options menu and HUD are broken
When set to modern widescreen, the options menu doesn't work properly and parts of the HUD are missing. This happens because Gene Troopers only supports contemporary 4:3 resolutions properly.
|
Set a resolution override with dgVoodoo2.
|
- In the options menu, set the game's resolution to something contemporary, such as 1280x1024 or 1600x1200.
- Copy
dgVoodooCpl.exe, dgVoodoo.conf and the contents of the MS\x86 folder to the installation directory of Gene Troopers where the game executable is located.
- Run the included
dgVoodooCpl.exe program.
- On the
General tab, extend the Scaling mode drop-down menu and select Centered, Keep Aspect Ratio so the scaling is done by dgVoodoo2 instead of the video driver. This is important as certain cards or driver versions may not scale properly on their own.
- On the
DirectX tab, click on the Resolution drop-down menu and input a 4:3 resolution override. This will keep Gene Troopers at the proper aspect ratio but with black borders to fill a widescreen display. For reference: 720p = 960x720 / 1080p = 1440x1080 / 1440p = 1920x1440 / 4K = 2880x2160
- Uncheck
dgVoodoo Watermark and save the settings.
|
Missing visual effects
On some systems, Gene Troopers fails to properly detect the feature set of the video card and permanently disables most graphics effects.
|
Spoof the installed card with dgVoodoo2.
|
- On the
DirectX tab, click on the Videocard drop-down menu and select the GeForce FX 5700 Ultra.
- In the game's options menu, max out the settings again.
|
Physics glitches
The HavoK physics engine may behave unpredictably if the framerate far exceeds 60 fps.
|
Instructions
|
|
Use a tool like Rivatuner Statistics Server or the graphics driver's control panel, and apply a 60 FPS limit on GT.exe. Alternatively, simply force VSync in dgVoodoo2 (on the DirectX tab) if your monitor is a 60 Hz display.
