Essential improvements

Make network play more responsive

The game defaults to Source's stock network update rates, which were designed around network connections of the mid-2000s. Servers run with 66 Hz update rate by default, but the default update rate is only 20 Hz on the client side.
Using the maximum allowed value (100 Hz) is beneficial on certain servers that run at update rates higher than the default. On servers running at lower update rates, the value set here will adjust itself automatically.
Use console commands to increase network data rate[citation needed]
  1. Enable the developer console in the advanced control options, then open the console.
  2. Enter the following command: cl_cmdrate 100; cl_updaterate 100; rate 187500
