Issues fixed

Slow loading level and aero disabling

Occurs only on Windows Vista and Windows 7, because of the special graphic stack WDDM.
Install game only on Windows XP, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10[4][1]

Notes

Using Windows 8.1 or 10 significantly reduces the launch time of the level, perhaps this is due to improvements in the WDDM graphics stack.[5]

Control key settings are not assigned

Keyboard settings reset to unassigned when restarting the game.
Run game as administrator[1]

Black screen

Some device configurations (usually USB devices) can make the game hang at startup showing a black screen. This can also happen under Wine (Linux or OS X). This patch makes the game bypass the device enumeration.
Apply the patch[6]
Before applying the patch, make a backup of game.exe in case the modifications go wrong.
  1. For Vista and later: make sure to have the game installed in a folder that can be modified by regular programs (e.g. C:\Games\SASST).
  2. Download sasstfix.exe and run it.
  3. Press Locate and patch game.exe.
  4. Using the dialog box that will appear, locate game.exe in <path-to-game>.
