Isolation allows processes to be garbage collected independently, reducing system-wide pauses, and using all machine resources as efficiently as possible (vertical scaling). Processes are also able to communicate with other processes running on different machines in the same network.

The Elixir Language Server (ElixirLS) provides a server that runs in the background, providing IDEs, editors, and other tools with information about Elixir Mix projects. It adheres to the LSP, a standard for frontend-independent IDE support. Debugger integration is accomplished through a similar VS Code Debug Protocol.
