Hi. There are many reasons to get that error message. But you could get the worst... I mean, your attached sample is an empty file, completely empty. Something could corrupt your file. SRT is a plain text file. You can analyse it using a text editor, like Notepad. Do you have a backup of the original file? Attached is a capture of the content:

Is it possible to run Subtitle Workshop 2.51 or 2.52 in Windows 10? I know Windows 6.0 does run in Windows 10, but many commands are different from those in 2.51. And in general it has some characteristics that make version 6.0 not as practical as 2.51.

I wonder how can I do to load a spelling dictionary in version 2.51, if possible. If dictionaries can only be used with SW later versions, please tell me which and I will use that version just to check spelling. I already have three dictionaries in text format.

Subtitles Workshop 6.0e OS Windows 10 64 bit I have spent hours correcting the timing on my 10 minute teaching video and save it as .srt. Now I need to automatically translate all lines of the text into Brazilian Portuguese and save it as a translated .srt for embeding as CC in the video and posting in Brazil. Download subtitles and be sure if they are in 1252 (ANSI - Latino I) encoding. Adjust your devices (if they allow it) accordingly (1252 or UTF-8). If your files were UTF-8 or 1252, convert them as required by devices. Update... While both "yours" srt's show the "strange" characters on my laptop screen (Mac), the fact is the "original" doesn't work on the BluRay player, but "yours" "1252"... WORKS! So, please, tell me how should I fix the problem for good: a) Shall I download the subtitles, using Windows computers? b) What's the best Windows app to deal with subtitles, in your opinion? OK, I attach the "original" srt and the converted "1252" srt. And I also attach a "screen", where you can see the "original", on the left, with all characters appearing correctly, and the "1252", on the right, with the special "portuguese" characters all wrong and messed up. Update... I noticed that, on the original .srt, when I open it on a text app, all the text is right, with the "special" characters appearing with no hassle. On the contrary, the 1252 one, appears with all the errors that I see on the TV, but on the text app! Art

Hello. I have this problem for "ages": when I watch videos on one of my laptops/desktops, Mac or Windows, the subtitles (in any format) have a "normal" behaviour. But, when I watch the same videos on a standalone Samsung DVD/BluRay, using a USB pen (2GB, 8GB, 16GB or 64GB),the subtitles have this "strange" characters, many times. The subtitles are UTF-8 coded, but some of them behave "normally", some of them don't, even when in the same format (usually .srt). I'm trying to understand this for many...

You had said about it several times and I understood it came from TV rip. What I can't understand is why it prevents to adjust subtitles. No video mark can hinder to adjust subtitles.

The problem is not the subs but the film video. I can't adjust the subs with the WS in certain cases and I have been facing the same problems for years. The sub file I find in these cases in the web need to be adjusted. When the film video I have downloaded is the original, i.e. as it was released by the company, there is no adjustment problem. But when a seeder uploads a video which doesn;t come directly from the company but he had first downloaded from TV and then he uploaded it, I can't adjust...

It's impossible to understand what are you talking about. Subtitles are NOT video's mark dependent. Subtiles are text files with time codes. Period. They depends of audio events. Sorry.

I don't want to edit the video. The problem is that in this special case, when the video comes from a TV Channel, so I can see the mark of the channel, is impossible to adjust properly the subs. In all the other cases, as happens in the other 11 seasons of the serial and the great majority of downloaded films and serials, the episodes that have been uploaded by the seeders are the originals, i.e. those which have been released by the producing company, and not from a TV channel-there is no channel...

Are you talking about the video itself? SW is a subtitle tool, not a video editor. For that, you would search for Virtualdub, Adobe After Effects ou Sony Vegas. But if it's some number mark inside subtitles, we need a sample to know what it is. Note that SW handles single files. If your subs are embbeded into a MKV or MP4 video file, first you have to extract them to work with.

I have downloaded all the 12 seasons of an old serial, but I have a problem of subtitle timing in one of them, especially this one which has the mark of a TV channel. I noticed that the picture is different from the other 11 seasons. No. But you can use a good text editor to make what you want to your subtitle. I recommend UltraEdit and its Regular Expression capabilities. 👍

Everything inside square brackets [ ] are considered as "hearing impaired" subtitles, no matter if is written in ALL CAPS or not. Your text must have that if you want to handle it as hearing impaired.

Some subtitle files have hearing impaired subtitles written in ALL CAPS. I can't seem to find a way to quickly find and delete all lines that are all caps. Is there a setting in 'Information and Errors', or elsewhere?

It seems that you didn't read SW Manual. Program has plenty of shortcuts to do almost any task. At Menu, go to Movie/Playback/Play-Pause and you'll see the hotkey: To pause video use CTRL-Space. To resume it, CTRL-Space again. To go to any line of the grid, ALT-Enter. To navigate lines, Shift- Enter. And so on. If you want to write your own shortcuts, edit file shortcuts.key, as said at Manual.

To fix "is a bad subtitle or an unsupported format." you coult try to make sure it's in a supported character format, ASCII is a safe bet, but you'll lose special chars.

I recently needed SW and i installed. But first it gave "not a valid video file" error, then i installed k-lite codec mega and did it again. Bu this time it gave "float division by zero" error, then i installed "the spilleter program" but it didn't work either. Now i get this error; "invalid type class". I tried use others subtitle edit programs and all work out but i really need this one. I was used to using this program and familiar with it. I search all this forum and didn't find a solation. Hi, Lacerda. What version are you using? Kameleon version? Note that Kameleon version now is 6.0d/37. I could load correct audio tracks here. But, if you couldn't, I suggest you to demux the VOB files and load which audio track you want. ffmpeg gives to you too many ways to extract and join audio and video tracks, but you also may use other bunch of tools available to do that.

Hi, marna. For hearing-impaired subtitles, what I'm used to see is a brief description of the sound inside squared brackets, like "[quiet music]", "[screaming]", "[hand clapping]". It's not common to translate the sound itself.

I just downloaded another copy using link from your message and could see that, despite it shows same version number, 6D, EXE files have different sizes and, of course, CRC checks. Are there any difference between them?

Hi, Please try Subtitle Workshop 6.0D, it has proper audio track selection for installed mkv splitters and/or codecs. It that doesn't help, try installing VLC 32 bit. Subtitle workshop 6.0D has support for this version. It is possible you'll have the change the video renderer. I have also tried to switch between multiple audio channels of a video, from the panel of SW 6, but the option is not vailable. Further, the audio stream under Movie is grey out. And K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (the latest version!), is installed on my Windows 7 64bit. A solution or a fix may please be provided. thank you!

Hi, Please verify with another program if audio is present. (e.g. VLC). If there's no audio in another program such as VLC, chances are subtitle workshop will have no sound as well. If VLC has sound, please try subtitle workshop 6.0D, which allows VLC 32 bit as video (and audio) renderer. In subtitle workshop you'll have to change the video renderer. Hi guys! I'm using SW for quite a long time. I found lots of problems but this one is really frustrating. My PC were "updated" to 2018 April edition in May. Before this I haven't noticed this issue. PC is connected LG TV via HDMI. After the win update, if the TV is working, when it's turned on, the second line on video with subtitle preview is disappearing. I can pull it up but still can't see it well. When I turn off TV or just pull out HDMI cable SW starts working as normal. I'm using SW 6.0b this...

I get "INSIDOUS.srt does not exist" error with Subtitle Workshop 6.0b. I get "bad subtitle or an unsupported format" error with Subtitle Workshop 2.51 API version is 1.15 on the Subtitle Workshop 6.0b. I can't open also any other subtitle files as well.

It's plain text, although it is turkish language, it is 1252 Latin I code page, timecode and text are displayed correctly, obeying SRT format rules, and it was opened without problem using Subtitle Workshop 6.0b. Please, make sure about SW version also about API 1.15. Both you check at About window. I see no reason for you cannot open that file. About the other problem, I bet that is something about syntax/formatting of the subtitle file and can be easily solved if Jack Torrance brought a sample to us.
