About the other problem, I bet that is something with syntax/formatting of the subtitle file and can be easily solved if Jack Torrance brought a sample to us.

  • Gab Arito Gab Arito posted a comment on discussion Help

As I said, the problem is not related to Subtitle Workshop, but with codecs conflicts and configurations. If you got a solution for the problem without need to change/modify SW is because the problem came from another source. Haali Media Splitter, K-Lite and other fixes you did are all related with codec configuratios. As I already said. ;)

Here is what to do to fix this issue: to download the Haali Media Splitter and install it. It can be found here : http://haali.su/mkv/ During the splitter installation process, it is proposed to disable two other Matroska splitters (including the one of K-Lite) and to associate mkv files with Window Media Player, but you don't have to do that if you don't want. I personnaly keep on using MPC-HC and its internal Matroska splitter as preferred media player for videos. What is important in the Options...

The issue with MKV and MP4 exists, Gab Arito, because I had exactly the same issue with fresh installations of both 6.0b and 6.0c versions. My default player was MPC-HC with a fresh installation of K-Lite codec pack, this video player opens perfectly MKV and MP4 but Subtitle Workshop, by default, does not ! About "unsupported format", please, paste here some piece of your subtitle file. It seems to be some character mispositioning or similar.

  • Gab Arito Gab Arito posted a comment on discussion Help

I think that there is some mistake here. I can open MP4 and MKV video file with Subtitle Workshop 6.0b. If you can open them using your default player, than you're able to do the same with SW 6.0b. Check your codecs. It seems to be a codec conflict and/or bad configuration.

Hi Jack. For the second one, this is an old known issue : Subtitle Workshop is not able to open MP4 and MKV containers. I'm currently searching a way to do so, I'll keep informed the community if I find a solution. For the first one, what is exactly the name of the subtitle file and its extension ?

Sorry for your accident. I'm afraid there is no way to recovery your work. I guess, all translated lines was only in memory (or Windows cache), not on an unique file on hard disk. But what happened is a good lesson for your behaviour in the future: turn on "Automatic Save" feature. It can be done at "Settings/Save/Save work automatically every _ _ minutes". If you had done that, your hard work could be recovered very easily.

Thank you Gab for a prompt answer. This is the very first time I forgot to save the project right in the beginning. After the accident, I started to open Setting options in a search of the temporary project file path and I saw the option of automatic save. I wish it was turned on by default after installation of SW. If users find it annoying, they will increase the time span but such accidents wouldn't happen.

I have installed Subtitle Workshop version 6.0b (build 131121) on Windows 7 Ultimate, x64. Opened an English subtitle in Translator Mode and went on translating it diligently. After probably 4 hours of working and 470 translated lines, Subtitle Workshop crashed and it closed program without saving my project. I was silly (=stupid) enough not to save it on the very beginning, so I haven't assigned any name to it. I was wondering if it's possible to find a temporary file and maybe recover all the lost...

  • Paul Rubin Paul Rubin posted a comment on discussion Help

Thanks Gab. I suppose that will work, however for the few lines, it's less work to simply do a 'Search...', and delete them directly. I was hoping to be able to add a customized rule that would delete any line with my custom text, when I click on the 'Fix Errors' button.

  • Gab Arito Gab Arito posted a comment on discussion Help

Before press "Select", uncheck all checkboxes, or click button "None". Doing that, you're sure that all error lines won't be selected. List must have only your custom text lines. To delete all custom text lines, all that lines must be selected before presse Delete key. I forgot to say, to force Delete key to work, you have to: Close "Information and Error" window first or Click somewhere on main window, taking care to don't unselect those lines. Then, press Delete key.

  • Paul Rubin Paul Rubin posted a comment on discussion Help

I press "Select", and it appears to select 18 instances of the lines with the custom text, but it also selects all other errors. When I hit Delete on the keyboard, nothing happens.

You said that you know how to add a rule to count custom text. So, you add your rule on Custom Info Area and get the list of lines (see picture). Click on buttom "Select" (red arrow) and you'll see all lines selectect (red square) on picture below: After that, just press Delete key on keyboard. I hope you'll achieve that. :)

Please give the steps to edit the length of a subtitle file-- just a trim on the end - based on a time stamp or frame . Some mkv software like mkvcutter will not recognize a subtitle file at all even it works on audio and video. The resultant trimmed subtitle file would them be muxed into the video via MKV toolnix.
