This is the story of Silver.
A character in a story that I wrote AGES ago.
The character came before the sona.
All of the ideas I've had for my sona came from this book that I had been writing, but never finished. Though the stories are always within my head. I keep coming up with new ideas and plots and other things, that, I need to put them down on paper more, though I have not continued writing for almost 7 years now
The story is always on my mind, and its a BIG story.
I figured, instead of letting the story just die, and not continue it, I wanted to share it with everyone, and, maybe, if the interest is there, as well as the encouragement, I will continue to write.
I have 8 chapters written, and I will upload them periodically so I can gauge interest.
I hope you all enjoy and feedback would be nice!

Prologue
Long ago, long before the earth was formed, there was a portal that was located where one of Earth's Ley Lines would eventually be. Through it were a billion points of light, perhaps more. Few knew of this place's existence and, fewer still, could enter it. Among those who could, they named it The Realm Between Realms.
Each light was an entrance to another world, another universe or, as the name suggests, another realm. Each world was unique in its own way: a world where hydrogen was what its inhabitants breathed, a world that was made of emeralds, a world – known as Terra – that had a variety of different races, like the mighty Darvog, or perhaps a world, much like Earth, but was smaller in size, yet it was as luscious and as beautiful as Earth was before the industrial age and remained that way for a hundred millennia. This world was known as Zeh’bella.
This world’s inhabitants included humans, elves, gnomes, and fairies, but perhaps, the most unique race on Zeh'bella were the werekin – part human, part animal. They had the ears and the tail of an animal and they lived for hundreds of years. The werekin were short and appeared almost like a human child until they reached the age of 120 years where, then, they would, eventually, grow up to five and a half feet tall give or take a few inches.
In this world, like many others, there were those who knew how to harness the energy around them - those with magical abilities - and here they were called Mages. Each Mage could harness one element but, each element was powerful in its own right. Land magic, for example, was used for healing, tracking, and changing the land around the user in various ways. However, there were a few who had mastered more than one element; the ones who could were extremely rare.
This world had a vast wildlife as well. Many of the creatures that are found on Earth were present on Zeh'bella such as canines, felines – like wolves and lions – but there were more exotic creatures that were unique to this world like the fierce gerovul – a, somewhat, odd cross of a bear and a fox.
The history of this world is long, and its stories are that of legend. One such story began in Zeh’bella’s third millennia on the east coast of the mainland.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The rain came down in a deluge as the booming thunder roared and the lightning flashed across the skies. In the midst, of what seemed to be a battlefield, stood a white wolf with a silver tipped tail soaked from the rain and covered in mud mixed with blood. His dark blue eyes glistened with each flash of light. Across the battlefield stood a man in a shredded robe drenched in blood. Both were facing each other, seemingly preparing for one final attack, how did it come to this, the wolf thought to himself, straining to breathe. Another flash of light and suddenly the wolf was taken back, way back, to his birth….
Chapter 1
The Mysterious Dreamwalker
The full moon shone brightly across the lands of Zeh'bella. The light of the moon pushed through the trees of the forest known as Tel and ran into a small cave. Inside, a mother wolf growled in pain as she began to deliver her cubs. Outside, three restless wolves paced around the cave’s entrance.
“How long does this take, Teera?” a male voice said to a female wolf, her dark brown fur made her seem almost invisible in the shadows of the trees. She was the pack’s beta.
“These things take time, Fastpaw,” Teera said to the long fur, gray wolf, who always seemed nervous, the pack’s omega; the lowest ranking member of a pack.
“I know that Teera, but we are so far from home. She should be delivering in our own den,” Fastpaw said with his emerald eyes glancing back and forth between the cave’s entrance and Teera.
“Fastpaw calm down,” another female voice whispered. “Worrying about it now will only cause problems later. Let Snowpaw handle that when she is finished. Until then, you should get some rest,” her short tail wagging only a little, as she lay down.
Fastpaw sighed and lay down as well. “Alright Shorttail,” he said to the female wolf whose light tan fur glimmered in the moonlight; she was the pack’s scout and advisor.
Inside the cave the mother wolf, the Alpha of the pack, glanced to her side as a motionless figure lay on the ground. She frowned, and then shed a tear before turning to the two other lively cubs; who seemed to be fighting for a teat. Smiling, she started thinking of names for the two cubs.
“Starlight,” she said, looking at the female cub whose fur was as white as the snow on a winter’s morning. She looked towards the male, noticing his tail had silver colored fur on the tip. “Silver,” she said.
By the time she finished thinking of their names, the two cubs had finished suckling, and had fallen asleep cuddling next to their mother. Exhausted, Snowpaw fell asleep soon after. The next morning the mother awoke to her cubs feeding again. The night was long, and the mother, Snowpaw, had slept in later than she normally would. In fact, the sun was already at its peak. Her eyes opened to see three muzzles glancing in. She smiled, “It’s alright you may come in,” she said calmly, but with some strain.
The three wolves cautiously padded into the cave, looking over the two cubs. “They’re beautiful, Snowpaw,” Teera said excitedly.
Struggling to get to her feet, Snowpaw said with her voice trembling with fatigue, “we need to get them home.”
Amber eyes widen, “Snowpaw you need your rest! You just gave birth,” Shorttail said, worried for Snowpaw, as well as for the cubs.
“I can make the journey, we are not that far,” Snowpaw glared back at Shorttail with determination in her bright green eyes.
Fastpaw was pacing again, “What about the cubs, can they make it?”
Snowpaw’s gaze switched to her cubs, then to Fastpaw. “I’m sure they can, we are only a half a day’s journey. Teera, I want you to carry the female, I will carry the male.”
Teera looked at the cub and smiled, “Alright.” she bent down and gently picked up Starlight with her maw. The cub didn't wiggle or move in her muzzle.
Snowpaw then picked up Silver in the same manner but, unlike his sister, he was struggling to break free. He soon calmed himself as Snowpaw turned to the others and then nodded as if to say, “let’s go.” She ran on and the rest of the back followed suit. As she stepped out of the cave, her pure white fur shone brilliantly in the sunlight. Teera followed; white streaks in her fur running the length on both her sides, now visible in the light, showed her age. Also visible was a black patch if fur on her forehead.
Shorttail trotted behind Teera, her short tail bouncing and the black streak of fur that ran the length of her back down through her tail was now visible in the sun.
Coming behind Shorttail, Fastpaw padded along in the back of the pack. His several black streaks of fur on his left side could now be seen.
This was highly unusual for the pack. Normally, the Alpha wolf would be behind the pack watching them for danger and, at the same time, protecting their flank. Because of the nature of the birth, Snowpaw wasn’t thinking so much of the pack but, instead, her focus was on her pups.
Seeming to smile, Shorttail came up beside Teera and then padded past her to come up to Snowpaw. Keeping her pace, Shorttail waited until finally, Snowpaw nodded. Picking up speed, she ran in front of the others until she was twenty paces in front of the pack as the scout often did.
Soon after leaving the cave, the two cubs began to whine in hunger. Snowpaw, Teera, and Fastpaw stopped. Shorttail, hearing a small howl coming from the omega, looked back and then stopped as well. Snowpaw, setting Silver down, stated, "Allow me to do this privately.” Teera set Starlight down next to her mother. The three pack members went on to the river close by. The three arrived at the river and began to lap the clear water. Shortail was on high alert; Snowpaw was alone. Fastpaw glanced around at the rest of the pack and sighed, "She hasn’t even told us the little one’s names yet..." he said.
"Snowpaw is under a great deal of stress, Fastpaw,” Shorttail, with water dripping from her muzzle, said. "And she will likely introduce us when we get home."
Teera looked at Fastpaw and slightly smiled, "Shorttail’s right, you know. Just give her some time; last night took a lot out of her.” Her expression changed to a light frown. “You heard her scream out in pain last night, she should still be resting, but she would rather be resting in our own den. The look in her eyes, said it all. She’s frustrated, for not delivering those cubs in our own den."
The pack heard a howl in the distance. "Let’s go," the beta wolf stated her voice seeming stern yet, depressive. She too wished for those cubs to be born in their own den, but even she did not know Snowpaw's reasoning for coming so far away from home. Teera and Snowpaw, though not siblings, came from the same pack; they grew up together and are close friends.
The pack headed into the forest and back to Snowpaw. When they met up with their Alpha they saw that she was looking down, smiling at her cubs as they so desperately tried to walk and move about. The pack looked at one another, smiling as well. Snowpaw glanced up at Teera as she walked up beside her leader. "We'll be home soon,” Teera said softly. “And the cubs can grow and be happy, along with the rest of the pack." Snowpaw nodded slowly and then Teera, again, picked up Starlight by the scruff. Snowpaw picked up Silver, who put up less of a struggle this time, and the pack continued to their home.
The pack stood on a hill overlooking a small mountain. Howls filled the air, because their den was within eyesight. Although a storm was heading their way, the pack couldn't be happier. "Finally, by the grace of Luna we're home.” Snowpaw said with a sigh of relief and a grin on her muzzle.
As the storm approached, the pack rushed to their home. Rain began dripping upon their fur and, as they entered their den, the downpour started. Inside, the pack went through a winding tunnel that led to the main cavern. Snowpaw walked up the ramp leading to her alcove while the rest of the pack stayed on the bottom floor; all except for Teera. She brought and sat Starlight down beside Snowpaw and then Teera joined the others.
The den consisted of five separate caverns, not including the main cavern where the pack was. The whole cave network had four different exits with two of them having a river flowing from the east to the west coming from the lake just outside the den. The north exit, which the pack had entered, faced the hills and the northern part of the woods. The south exit, on the second floor, lead out to a ledge overlooking Tel Forest, and a ramp going down to the lake.
Outside, the wind picked up in strength. Lightning filled the skies and thunder filled the air. The cubs began to whimper in fear and then the pack heard a loud cracking noise followed by a thud. Everyone almost jumped out of their fur, including the nearly furless cubs. Snowpaw glanced outside and noticed a tree on the ground. She cuddled with her cubs to let them know they’re safe.
The stormed raged on. “It’s gonna be a long night,” said Teera to the others. “We should all try to get some sleep.”
Throughout the night, the cubs were whining and moving about. The loud cracks of thunder were harsh on their sensitive ears and kept them awake. When the storm seemed like it would never end, the winds slowed, the thunder dulled, and the lightning was now a small flicker in the sky. The storm had come to an end; it was at this time the sun began to rise.
It was morning; the smell of fresh rain filled the air and inside the cave. The distant thunder could still be heard from the storm and, while the rest of the pack got a little sleep throughout the night, Snowpaw and the cubs did not. Soon after the storm, all fell into a deep sleep.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
As the sun rose over the trees, outside two squirrels were bickering, "W-w-we need get out of here, we are in HIS territory," exclaimed the first squirrel.
"Let me just gather these last few acorns, he will never…" the second one was interrupted by a shadow looming over them. The first squirrel screamed and ran away. Slowly the second squirrel turned around and then screamed, "I-i-i-it’s.. Sh-Sha--- shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!" Suddenly, it ran as well.
Standing tall was the purest of black wolves staring with his seemingly black eyes at Snowpaw’s den below, just beyond her territory. "It has begun," the black wolf said in a deep voice. He turned and walked into the woods, slowly turning in the direction of the den. "We will meet young one, soon"
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Teera awoke first with a long yawn; she stood and stretched. Snowpaw wanted to sleep in longer and so did the cubs. The other two members began to wake, looking to one another and yawning. All three members looked up at Snowpaw's ledge, tails wagging furiously, eagerly waiting for introductions.
Snowpaw groaned, hearing the other pack members wondering about. She then stood to her paws, walked over to the end of her alcove, and then looked down to see the rest of the pack up and staring at her. Her eyes widen, "what," she asked with a hint of annoyance in her voice.
Teera took a step forward and with a smile said, "Snowpaw? It would seem you have forgotten to introduce us to the new members of the family."
"Oh! Dear me," she said shocked and embarrassed. "Forgive me." She walked over wearily and picked up the female cub first, who was barely able to crawl. She took the cub down the ramp and sat her in front of the others. "This is Starlight, she was the last cub born." As the pack began to nuzzle and admire the newborn, Snowpaw headed back up the ramp to pick up the other cub. The pack heard a rather loud and worried gasp. "Silver" Snowpaw exclaimed with worry in her voice. She headed outside to the ledge overlooking the forest.
"There you are! What are you doing out here?" She picked him up by his scruff thinking to herself, he's already able to walk? She let loose a long, drawn-out sigh, this one's going to be trouble.
She walked down the ramp and put the adventurous cub down in front of the others, "And this little troublemaker is Silver," she said with a smile. The pack then walked over to nuzzle Silver.
Teera looked up and, with what sounded like laughter in her voice, said, "He's just like you, when you were a little one."
Snowpaw smiled wryly, "I don't know what you mean." As she watched the pack nuzzle her young, she felt something come over her. Her legs began to quiver, her body felt numb, and her eyes began to droop. The alpha wolf collapsed. "SNOWPAW," the pack shouted.
Teera walked over to her. She bowed her head and sniffed Snowpaw and said calmly, "She’s okay. She's exhausted, most likely because she just gave birth and has had no rest since. She sure is a strong one. Why in Luna’s name did she want all of us to go on that journey when she knew she was going to be delivering soon?"
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
A voice could be heard in the distance, "Snowpaw..." it said with an alluring tone. She opened her eyes and she discovered she was no longer in her den. It was a wide-open, endless field, with flowers blossoming everywhere. The sky was clear but with a mix of colors, blue, orange, purple, and green, both the sun and the full moon were high in the sky. A dark silhouette of another wolf stood in the distance. Without thinking, Snowpaw walked towards the figure. As she approached, the voice, of what she thought was the wolf in front of her, spoke, "Snowpaw, you have done well. Now you must protect both cubs at all costs, even if that means your life."
"Why did you have me go on that journey?" Snowpaw asked the mysterious wolf.
“All I can say is that it was to protect them,” the wolf said.
“My cubs, my pups,” Snowpaw asked shocked. “What harm would have come to them if I stayed in my own den?”
“I’ve done told you, I cannot tell you more.” The wolf seemed to shift balance from his right side to his left. “You must know, you’ll be expecting another pup to come to you and your pack. You must accept him as your own." As he spoke that last word the dream seemed to fade and Snowpaw could hear the whimpering of her young ones. She awoke with her cubs at her side. She looked at them and smiled, before shifting her gaze over at the pack, who were lapping the water in the river.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
During the next eight weeks since the birthing of the new members of the pack, Silver was wondering off more and more. He was able to fully walk, without trouble, a week after his birthing; it took Starlight two weeks. Silver had almost fallen off the cliff-side and into the lake, once; his eyes did not fully open until another week after he was able to walk. His sister's eyes fully opened around the same time, revealing sky blue eyes.
One day, while Snowpaw and the others were sound asleep, Silver's ear flicked; he yawned and padded outside to the cliff side. His deep blue eyes gazed across the morning landscape – the forest and lake at the bottom. His sister opened her eyes and watched him pad outside. She turned over before stretching, and then stood up.
A chilling breeze raced up the cliff-side, pure white fur moved with the wind, and his silver-tipped tail swayed back and forth as anxiousness filled the young wolf. From behind him he heard a familiar yawn; his ears perked up as the young, snow white wolf spoke, “Silver,” she groaned, not liking the morning, “why are you up so early?” She yawned a second time, and while doing so, said, “You should still be asleep with the rest of the pack.” Silver stood there not saying anything but staring off into the horizon. “Silver,” with wonder in her innocent voice, she began to stare, along with her brother, into the far distance.
The morning sunlight reached the opening of the den just before their mother woke up with a long yawn, followed by a small, wakening howl. Inside the den, the rest of the pack began to wake. The alpha mother peered about with her dark green eyes, searching for her cubs. Not a second later, both Silver and Starlight padded into the den, “What are you two doing up already?”
“Oh nothing,” the cubs said in unison. They both looked at each other and then smiled. Just then a howl was heard in the distance; it seemed as if asking permission to enter the territory.
Snowpaw’s ears perked forward, she recognized it and howled back, granting permission. The sun was at its peak; four large wolves approached the den. Snowpaw and Teera stood at the northern entrance – Fastpaw and Shorttail watched the cubs. “Snarls! I thought that was your howl. What brings you here,” Snowpaw inquired.
The dark grey wolf stepped forward, “we were sent here by the Dreamwalker,” Snarls, Snowpaw's brother and alpha of his own pack, replied. He glanced down behind him as a small “cub” appeared.
Bright green eyes widen; she peered at the young one who stood on two legs. “But, I— W-When he said cub, I thought he meant a wolf cub!” Behind Snarls stood a human child that seemed to be bashful. He appeared to be younger than ten human years. He wore only a loincloth, had wavy blonde hair and turquoise colored eyes. The most peculiar part of this child: he had a long gray wolf-like tail and gray wolf-like ears.
“Snowpaw, I would like to introduce, Sid. He may seem human, but he acts more like a wolf. He is quite an odd creature, if I must say. He speaks and understands both human and wolf. A trait he learned from his grandfather.” Snarls stated as he looked into his sister's eyes, cocking his muzzle to one side. Sid ducked behind Snarls.
“Sid?” Snowpaw returned his gaze and then, also, cocked her muzzle to the side. She glanced at the child, then back to her brother. “I—I’ve never cared for a human cub, I’m just barely getting used to my own.” Her gaze now focused on Sid. “Not saying I couldn’t, it’s just different.”
Snarls smiled at his sister. “You’ll do fine; it’s not much harder than caring for your cubs. He’s weaned he’ll eat meat if you bring it. He does not know how to hunt, and I doubt he will ever learn with jaws and teeth like that.”
“Thanks!” Sid retorted, obviously annoyed at the remark.
“It is not all that bad, Sid,” Snarls said, still grinning and now glaring at Sid, “You may learn to use human weapons, when you grow up. Until then, just get used to others bringing you your meat.”
“It’s not fair! I wouldn’t be like this if my grandfather weren’t a werewolf,” his turquoise eyes filling with tears.
“Who is his grandfather,” Snowpaw finally wanted to know.
“Mind your tongue, Sid,” Snarls smiled, “Ambrose is his grandfather,” he said, calmly.
“Ambrose,” Snowpaw said shocked. “Well that would explain a lot.” She turned to Sid, but still spoke to Snarls, “Who knew that, after everyone had thought that he was dead, Ambrose would show up as casually as that. Not that we don’t accept him, of course. After all, Ambrose is our grandfather.” Smiling she looked back at Snarls. “Did the Dreamwalker say anything else?”
“Only that Sid will eventually leave when he is ready to face the world, and that will happen soon…” Snarls voice trailed off.
“I see…” Snowpaw said as her voice trailed as well.
Snarls looked up with sorrow in his eyes, “Take care of yourself, sister.”
“I will, you take care of yourself as well." She paused for a moment, thinking, "If you would like to stay here for the night, you may. The den is big enough for your pack,” Snowpaw said, not wanting her brother to leave so soon.
Snarls looked his pack over, “we must be heading out. We have our own path to follow now. You and your cubs have your own path as well.” He forced a smile. In truth, he wanted to stay just a bit longer with his sister, “Good luck.”
“And you to, brother,” with a howl from both, Snarls led his pack back to their home. Snowpaw glanced back at Teera, who stood there watching the whole thing. She, then, turned to Sid, “are you ready to enter your new home?”
Sighing, Sid stood there looking at his new mother almost wanting to be defiant, “I guess.” Teera led the way as Snowpaw signaled Sid to move along. She followed behind them. As they moved through a long winding tunnel, Snowpaw's noticed Sid's unprotected paws.
The human-child noticed three different paths ahead as they walked; one leading left to another tunnel, one leading right, and one going straight. Teera took the one going straight; it led into the main part of the cave where the others were. Silver and Starlight stopped playing with each other as they, as well as Fastpaw and Shorttail, who were laying on the ground watching the cubs, stared at the newcomer.
Shorttail got to her paws, “I—It’s a huma—that can’t be right. It has a tail and the ears of a wolf. Then,” Shorttail padded around him, sniffing, “It’s a werekin!” Before joining, Snowpaw’s pack, the scout had wondered about the lands as a lone wolf with her own adventures. She amassed great knowledge in her travels.
“He is Sid,” she said gleefully. “And he is now part of the pack. And we will be taking care of him and treat him like our own.”
Sid now hiding behind Teera, “I—uhm” Sid seemed speechless; his defiant look turned more to a nervous one. “Hello.”
“How can he speak to us,” Fastpaw inquired.
“He knows both wolf and human” Teera stated, “He’s also born with the blood of both, as you can plainly see.” Smiling, she looked at Sid.
Snowpaw added, “And, yes, Shorttail, he is a werekin. At least that’s what I remember hearing long ago when I was a cub; about humans with animal traits. Now that I think about it, there was mention of a wolf-human werekin cub among my parents.”
“Wow!” Silver seemed to sneak up, unnoticed by anyone in the pack. He started sniffing Sid all over. “He’s staying with us?”
“For now,” his mother said softly. “He is your cousin."
Silver had a curious look in his sapphire eyes at the word “cousin” “What is a cousin, Mother?”
Smiling his mother looked back at Sid, “A cousin is the son or daughter of your mother’s or father’s, brother or sister, or uncle or aunt. Though that would be your second cousin…” Silver gave another odd look as his mother chuckled a little “He is the son of my uncle, Genis.” She looked down. “He died trying to protect Sid from raiders – really bad humans. I’ve never met Sid until today, but I heard about him, sort of. I didn’t know that he was part human.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
With the pack sound asleep, the only noise that could be heard was the sound of river flowing from the lake. Snowpaw, stirring soundlessly next to her cubs, started to dream again.
The scene was the same as last time and the mysterious wolf had his back turned to Snowpaw, looking in the distance. "Snowpaw," when he spoke, she could hear the sullen in his voice, "there may come a time when you will have to use magic to defend your pack. I'm aware you have seen magic, first hand. Your father had such abilities, yes?"
"How–" she paused for only a second, "–how could you know that?"
"You must have been aware that I have direct contact with our goddess, Luna? She tells me the things I need to know."
Snowpaw detected a hint of a lie but, the Dreamwalker has never betrayed her or any wolf who needed a dreamwalker's guidance however, she never knew the origin of dreamwalkers. "I suspected, but I was never sure."
"I will teach you a spell that you must only use if you have no other choice and for nothing else."
"Is something going to happen to my pack? Are we in danger?" There was a slight stutter in her voice; her entire body was shaking. She was afraid of the answer not for herself, but for her pack, and her cubs.
The Dreamwalker paused and turned towards the Alpha wolf, "I do not know that answer. I am only told what I need to know."
Snowpaw sighed and regained her composure, "then, tell me what I need to know.”

Fastpaw sighed and lay down as well. “Alright Shorttail,” he said to the female wolf whose light tan fur glimmered in the moonlight; she was the pack’s scout and advisor.
