You've heard it before, git is powerful, but what good is that power when everything is so damn hard to do? Interactive rebasing requires you to edit a goddamn TODO file in your editor? Are you kidding me? To stage part of a file you need to use a command-line program to step through each hunk and if a hunk can't be split down any further but contains code you don't want to stage, you have to edit an arcane patch file by hand? Are you KIDDING me?! Sometimes you get asked to stash your changes when switching branches only to realize that after you switch and unstash that there weren't even any conflicts and it would have been fine to just check out the branch directly? Git Extensions is a standalone UI tool for managing Git repositories. It also integrates with Windows Explorer and Microsoft Visual Studio (2015/2017/2019). The full commit history can be browsed. Branches are shown using a graph which highlights commits that are included in the current revision. Explore the history of single files. Renamed and moved files are matched and shown in a single history. You do not need to mark files as renamed/moved. The system detects renamed files automatically. Find the last person that edited a specific part of a file. Double click on the line shows the commit and allows you to drill-down to other files. Version 2.x of Git Extensions runs on multiple platforms using Mono. The active community of Git Extensions is supporting Git Extensions since 2008.

Tig is an ncurses-based text-mode interface for git. It functions mainly as a Git repository browser, but can also assist in staging changes for commit at chunk level and act as a pager for output from various Git commands. Tig allows you to browse changes in a Git repository and can additionally act as a pager for output of various Git commands. When used as a pager, it will display input from stdin and colorize it. When browsing repositories, Tig uses the underlying Git commands to present the user with various views, such as summarized commit log and showing the commit with the log message, diffstat, and the diff. If stdin is a pipe, any log or diff options will be ignored and the pager view will be opened loading data from stdin. The pager mode can be used for colorizing output from various Git commands. All Git command options specified on the command line will be passed to the given command and all will be shell quoted before they are passed to the shell.
