Open Source Assembly Operating System Kernels

The goal of the project is now to develop a user library called libpfm4 to help setup performance events for use with the perf_events Linux kernel interface. The development of the perfmon kernel subsystem, libpfm and pfmon has now stopped.

The Xbox Linux Project aims to privide a version of GNU/Linux for the Xbox, so that it can be used as an ordinary computer. Linux should make use of all Xbox hardware and allow to install and run software from standard i386 Linux distributions.

colorForth is, in Chuck Moore's own words: "A dialect of Forth that uses color to replace punctuation. Includes its own operating system. Produces extremely compact programs. Instant compile from pre-parsed source."

Syllable Desktop is a complete operating system that is easy to use, powerful, lightweight and extraordinarily fast and responsive. It has its own kernel, filesystem, GUI and applications. Syllable Server is a matching small and efficient Linux server.

The openwince project collects free (open source) software tools, modules, applications, drivers, and so on for Windows CE platform developers. Some of the modules are usable outside Windows CE development environment and are platform independent.

LUnix (little UNIX) is an operating system for the Commodore64 - a famous home computer back in the 80s. It supports TCP/IP networking (SLIP or PPP using a RS232 interface). LUnix aims to look and feel like UNIX.

ELKS is a subset of the Linux kernel that runs on IBM compatible PCs from 8086 up. It is intended to get use out of obsolete old hardware, for use in embedded systems, and as an educational tool. ELKS has been moved to Github to protest SourceForge's installer adware hijacking. This does not directly affect ELKS, but it does affect many major open source projects such as Gimp and FileZilla by attempting to trick the user into installing adware in order to download these programs. UEFI GPT fdisk is a port to UEFI of the famous GPT fdisk partitioning tool, see http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/ . Now since this program runs directly under UEFI shell you don't need to *boot* the system to convert/edit partition tables.

AO-RTOS is a pure object-oriented small footprint real-time operating system for embedded devices. The project is using Active Object (or Actor) concurrency model and finite state machine (FSM) design template as implementation base.

SkyEye is a very fast full system simulator which takes llvm as IR of dynmic compiled framework.. It can simulate series ARM, Coldfire,Mips, Powerpc, Sparc, x86, TI DSP and Blackfin DSP Processor. This project has been moved to http://pros.cs.purdue.edu/ PROS is a lightweight and fast alternative operating system for the VEX Cortex Microcontroller. It features multitasking, low-level control, and Wiring compatible functions to harness the full power of the Cortex. With a real-time kernel based on FreeRTOS and a development environment built on Eclipse CDT, PROS uses proven software to increase the reliability and usability of the VEX development system across all three major computing platforms. PROS is currently under active development to make it usable for VEX high school and middle school teams. PROS is intended for advanced VEX users seeking to move beyond competing environments. Prex is a portable real-time operating system for embedded systems. The small, reliable and low power kernel is written in C language based on micro kernel design. File system, UNIX process and networking features are provided by user mode tasks.

The FDOS Operaing System is 100% written in Assembler (NASM). It supports FAT 12, TSR and a small Multi Kernel System. The source is very good documentated (only in English). A German, russian and English Documentation (about 40 pages) are included.

The OpenSSI project is a comprehensive clustering solution offering a full, highly available SSI environment for Linux. Goals for OpenSSI Clusters include availability, scalability and manageability, built from standard servers.

FreeWPC is a software framework for writing new software for 1990's Bally/Williams pinball machines. The framework allows you to build your own ROM images, define your own game rules, incorporate dot matrix animations, design lamp shows, and so on.

The Embedded Bathroom Control System is a small system to control the bathroom fan, other devices and report information on an LCD panel.

FiwixOS 3 is a Fiwix distribution, an operating system made from a software collection that is based upon the Fiwix kernel. It basically comprises a Fiwix kernel, GNU tools, libraries and additional software. All the included software is free and open-source software made available both as compiled binaries and in source code form, which allows modifications to the original software. FiwixOS 3 uses the Newlib v3.1.0 as its C standard library, and the Ext2 as its primary file system. Fiwix is an operating system kernel written from scratch, based on the UNIX architecture and fully focused on being POSIX compatible. It is designed and developed mainly as a hobby OS and, since it serves also for educational purposes, the kernel code is kept as simple as possible for the benefit of students and OS enthusiasts. It is small in size (less than 40,000 lines of code), runs on the i386 hardware platform and is compatible with a good base of existing GNU applications.
