Years later, I’m a (New York Times best-selling) author of three books—relaxing in the back of this horrible spoken word event, waiting for the host to school me on why I should have a problem with the greatest television show in American history. We never had the conversation. She came to greet me, and we took a picture. While she checked out our image on her phone, making sure the lighting was right, I asked, “So what’s up with The Wire?”

”Oh, I didn’t really watch it?” she said. “It’s too negative, and I can’t give it my energy.”

”So why the hard opinions? I mean, if you never saw the show, how do you know it’s so negative? How do you know it’s not funny and creative and informative?”

The young lady didn’t have an answer for me. Not only was she not from the city, but she didn’t even watch The Wire. I imagine that someone who also probably did not see the show shared their opinion with her, and because she may have had trust for that person, she carried their argument as if it were her own. Seeing a person stand on their own critique of something they’d never seen is extremely scary, so scary that I wanted to know more. What other things do you have baseless opinions on? But, lucky for her, we were pulled in different directions by other people who wanted to catch up with us and, of course, take more pictures. I tried to find her as the venue started to clear out, but she was gone.

If I could have caught Miss Tee, I would have explained that The Wire is the exact opposite of copaganda. The phrase copaganda definitely deserves to be attached to many television shows and movies that only portray offices as pure heroes, hungry to save citizens in an urban area. Simon and The Wire's writers took the time to detail the complexities that exist inside the police department. You had cops that wanted to be heroes and tried to do their jobs, and you had cops that were beyond lazy. You had officers who were racist but didn't know they were racist. You had officers that were flat-out racist. You had officers who were extremely intelligent. You had officers that were extremely stupid. There were officers with good hearts who made bad decisions and officers with bad hearts who made good decisions. The officers were Black, white, fit, little, or wildly out of shape.

Every single officer was carefully developed with an unprecedented amount of authenticity. How can you use a word like copaganda when the horrors of their brutality and their inability to put down cases were on front street in multiple seasons of the show?

why did they draw his feet like that. big leagues for scale

fave piece of celeb trivia is that jonathan ross is really into retro games and has one of the only surviving um jammer lammy arcade machines

when talking to people irl about youth liberation one of the first things that comes up is "well won't strangers who want to groom & exploit kids want to use this to their advantage" and then we have to spend an hour going through the whole history of stranger danger as well as exploitation within the family form. and talk about how we can plan community systems to implicitly hold adults accountable. and about why we need to build out youth liberation as a movement so much further beyond the way it's been used to target vulnerable kids for further exploitation (creating a feedback loop of youth oppression).

it takes so much work to talk people through all of this & convince them that youth liberation has utility instead of just being a meat grinder for child sexual exploitation

and then i log on here and even after blocking dozens of people, my dash is still full of like "yes i'm saying this because i am an adult who sexually fantasizes about kids all day. i want to build a community around my sexual fantasies & have unrestricted access to kids. that is the whole Point of youthlib, actually, and it's revolutionary. any pushback is bigoted/reactionary." like literally i got an anon the other day that was like (paraphrasing) "youth liberation is for Me because i am an adult survivor of csa. and Me says i can sexualize kids whenever i want"

[opens my mouth so so wide and lets out a single high pitched note that shatters all of my windows]

imagine looking at my blog to try to find more out about me as a person and all you see is some bullshitttttt

is there any trait less attractive than a lack of curiosity

just unfollowed someone for rbing anti-manhating sentiments. it's very weird to me and I'm not sorry. there's a rise in conservatism and a big societal push to strip women of our rights and make us men's property, and your biggest priority is lecturing women on how we talk about men?? fuck right the fuck off actually

"but it hurts their feelings!" it hurts MY feelings when my sisters and mothers don't have rights.

"but it doesn't help your goals!" meanwhile men are beating, raping, oppressing, and killing women everywhere to advance the goals of the patriarchy. don't tell me what I should and should not feel about that.

"but it harms trans men/men of color/other oppressed men!" does it? because trans men and men of color have way more serious shit to deal with than women expressing their feelings on the internet. such as transphobia and racism. meanwhile, women in their communities (trans women, women of color) have to deal with all of that PLUS oppression from the men.

you simply cannot convince me that anti-manhating arguments are anything more than patriarchy propaganda. "unhh we have all the power and rights, but if you don't worship at our feet, you're just as bad as us." fuck offfffff

just unfollowed another person for rbing similar sentiments. I am NOT in the mood

You are lucky.

You wake up in the morning in full health, have breakfast with your family with no one missing, go to work with money in your bank account, return to a warm home, and spend your evening wherever you like.

Have you ever felt the privilege of all this? If not… pause, reflect, and enjoy this life.

The life you live every day is a dream for others in a different world, who face hardships every single day.

Two years ago, my children and I saw our lives turn into a nightmare.

We began dreaming of a simple, ordinary life one that everyone should have.

No one is to blame for what happened to us, and I’m not forcing anyone to support us, but we need help to reclaim a part of the life we lost.

If you wish to help, you can donate through this link and be a reason for giving us new hope.

I have spoken many times about the shelling, the high cost of living, life in tents, the cold weather, illnesses, the difficulty of moving around, fetching water, and charging our phones… yet our situation has not changed, despite what the media portrays to sugarcoat reality and keep the world away from us.

You may have grown tired of us, but I beg you: now is not the time to leave my children and me here alone, facing this harsh reality.

hi im yasha and as you may know ive recently been fucked over by life in a lot of ways and my other post has kind of died. im currently uninsured, suffer from catatonic episodes and an array of other health problems alongside having been cut off from my father's financial support and facing physical abuse at home bc of my episodes. i'm mostly trying to survive this month while paying for the medical appointments, and i need at least another 140€ for the electric bill. my girlfriend's family has been experiencing poverty for quite some time, and bills, taxes and debts have really piled up ever since her father's passing. the most realistic number for us to gather for her would be around 300€. i can offer simple doodles and sketches for donations, examples under cut or you can message me. we really need this. please help.
