So uhh. played a bunch. if you upgrade any of the infinite's enough you hit Integer overflow and can basically SPAM the shit out of it for free.

Haha, wow, you’ve definitely been playing a lot 😆 Didn’t even think about that X)

Really cool idea and execution!
- I think the area can grow a bit faster

- for time attack, I would add a +5sec every X points, so we can play a bit longer!

- not sure if you should pause the time during the skill tree? It would be part of the challenge to take fast decisions :)

good luck for Steam release!

Thanks a lot! Really appreciate the feedback 😄

  • For the demo, I think the spawn rate is already pretty fast, but I’ll keep an eye on it.

  • For Time Attack, I’m considering going back to a 5-minute total — I’m a bit wary of broken unlimited sessions, but it could definitely make the mode more challenging!

  • As for pausing time during the skill tree, I think for beginners or if the layout changes, it’s fine to give players a bit of time to read and plan. Otherwise, leaving it running could be a nice way to add pressure and keep the challenge up.

Thanks again, and fingers crossed for the Steam release! 🎮

❓= Confused

⚠️🚨=Serious problem!

✅=Compliment

Devlog #34 & #35, November 29th 2025:

1. ✅The skill tree is so small and skinny, I'm guessing you felt it was too complicated, and decided to combine multiple upgrades into one. That makes sense, but now it barely has anythin-- *Void skill tree. Unlock new skills, upgraded axes and more* ... Oh, I see now. I like that! 😁

2. ✅The Forest doesn't give all three wood types at the same time. At first I didn't like this change, but then I figured out how to make it benefit me, so I like it now.

3. ✅I like that the The Forest upgrades stay across resets.

4. ☹️The Forest gives so little wood, it's not worth it. I like to unlock The Forest as soon as possible so I can get wood faster in the early levels after a reset. But It's so costly, and gives to little, and is more of a mid-late game feature, that it's useless by the time you unlock it.

5. 💭The Forest is too expensive, gives too little, and comes in too late. I think The Forest can be fixed by changing 2/3 of these things. I would prefer the price and income be fixed, while it's placement stays the same. This would make it so that players who focus on unlocking The Forest as soon as possible are rewarded for the hard work done in their last reset, by increasing their wood production so they can progress faster in the early game.

6. ✅I like that I can upgrade the spawn chance of other wood types once, and then upgrade the Chest Trees a whole bunch to more efficiently increase -Medium- Super Wood, and -Hard- Slime Wood production. It feels like I'm being rewarded for thinking outside the box a little.

7. ☹️The Forest starts requiring multiple upgrades to decrease the timer by 0.01s once it reaches 0.30s. The timer said "0.30s -> 0.30s" before, and after I upgraded it, I needed to upgrade it once more for it to say "0.30s -> 0.29s". Later on, it starts requiring FOUR upgrades just to decrease by 0.01s; and remember, upgrading the timer increases the price by 10,000 wood every time, and increases exponentially.

8. 🐜Just like before, the timer allowed me to spend wood upgrading it, without actually changing anything. Except this time, it does it at "0.20s -> 0.20s" instead of "0.50s -> 0.50s"; it's becomes a scam.

9. 🐜One or two of the times I reset, my progress in The forest did not save across the resets.

10. 🐜When using the Add Million Wood command, the skill tree visuals do not change to show that you can afford new upgrades. I believe this is because the means I attained the wood was different than the way the skill tree was coded to detect it. It probably checks "on chop" rather than "if 🪵≥price".

11. 💭✅Speaking of the Add 1 Million Wood command, you should know that when I test new updates, I don't use that command, I play it legitimately so that I know how it feels to progress through the game. That way, I can give accurate criticism based on my own experiences.

12. 🐜Upgrades I already had pocked on a previous reset still have a red dot to them after my next reset, they are no longer new, yet display themselves as if they are.

13. ❓In Devlog #34, The Infinity Tree upgrades past level 2 in the Void Skill Tree seemed to do nothing. Then in Devlog #35, the upgrade capacity was changed from 7 upgrades, to 2 upgrades. Does this means there will be 7 different types of wood for up to buy Infinity Tree upgrades on?

14. 💭I think it would be nice if other wood types had something more interesting/unique for gaining more wood. Normal Wood has The Forest, and Chest Trees, while Super Trees and Slimes Trees have their infinite upgrades, and that it. Maybe Super Trees could have a tab where you invest Super Wood to withdraw more of it later, receiving more wood than you put in, based on how long you waited. Slime Trees could have something different as well, but I can't think of anything. I get that this would be difficult the more wood types you have, so maybe you could give these unique tabs to the trees that are actually unique (Balloon Tree and Teleport Tree).

15. 🐜❓I don't know if this was intended, but unlike tabs 2, 3, and 4, pressing 0 when you're on tab 0 doesn't return you to tab 1.

Thanks so much for the detailed feedback! 😄

A few updates based on your points:

  • I’m planning to buff The Forest, and later in the Void Skill Tree you’ll be able to upgrade the wood ratio.

  • I’ll fix the max Forest price, block the button when you’re at max, and add a 0.01s minimum for the timer so upgrades feel fair.

  • The Forest should have been reset properly — thanks for catching that.

  • Regarding the Add Million Wood command, in the full game it will behave differently and not directly affect the skill tree visuals.

  • The red dot issue on old upgrades still needs work.

  • About the Infinity Tree, yes — the higher-level upgrades weren’t demo content.

Really appreciate you going through everything — your thoughts on progression, costs, and unique wood mechanics are super helpful for improving the game! 🚀

(+1)

It's fun in the beginning but miss something to engage keep playing. But I see a very potential here!

yep

(1 edit)

The chopping is really satisfying but the upgrade tree isn't that fun. There's no reason for the tiers to be there. It becomes a bit tedious to get all the tiers and not worth it to read the descriptions because of how often you are buying upgrades. Just give us one big upgrade instead, or at most 2 big tiers per upgrade. That way getting the upgrade feels like a milestone.

Would also be nice if there was any actual difference between the trees instead of just recolors. For instance medium trees being chopped down in phases, first the branches then the trunk.

Finally, "The Forest" gives so little wood that it's not worth investing in. If you want to give us passive income it would be more satisfying to have something on the main screen. Like an infinite tree on the side of the island that is being chopped by an automatic axe and you see logs flying to your pile.

Overall a fun game with a strong start that left me a bit disappointed with its progression.

(+1)

The skills and costs will be balanced in the next update, and every tree — except the first two — will have a unique mechanic. For now it’s just a demo, so none of the trees have special mechanics yet, except for the chest tree that gives a lot of resources when you chop it. The Forest will stay separate and will be upgradeable through the skill tree.

Overall, thank you for the feedback!

it's either a good or horrendous idea to cut down the skill tree and i don't know which

Maybe it will be the final twist 👀

Wow, played it for a bit and it is a really addicting game! So simple yet very engaging. How did you come up with the idea? : ))

(+1)

Haha thank you!

I actually came up with the idea while I was supposed to be studying for my exams. I was getting really fed up, so to destress and disconnect a bit, I decided to make a game where you just cut trees.
There are already tons of mining games, so in my head the next logical step after mining was… trees.
And that’s how Chop Chain was born. 😄

Haha perfectly fits kind of game you would play instead of studying! xd

⚠️🚨=Serious problem!

Before Devlog #30:

1. ✅+💭I like the transition between the Infinite Tree, and The Plains. The Infinite Tree as a separate tab is more interesting than the Infinite Tree as an upgrade, so think the Infinite Tree should not be on The Plains. I think you can find a way to make the Infinite Tree unique, and useful, because it's useless right now (I think).

After Devlog #30: (November 16th, 2025)

2. ☹️Medium Logs look too similar to Logs, I accidentally buy things with Medium Logs, thinking they were Logs.

3. 🐜Pressing the number keys on browser PC no longer toggles between tabs.

4. ❓I don't know when the mole appears, it's hard to tell.

5. 🐜+💭I can't upgrade The Forest Timer past 0.50s, I should be able to upgrade it to 0.01s, and then 0.00s after that, because it would be really funny. When It's at 0.50s, it's says "0.50s -> 0.50s", and clicking it at that point does nothing but steal my logs and increase the price WITHOUT decreasing the Timer.

6. ☹️The icons are difficult to understand without looking at their text. If you'd like a guide on what easy to understand icons look like, look at the "upgrade icons" that Bloons TD 6 has, they do a very good job with that.

7. 🐜Music doesn't loop at all, anymore. It used to, though.

8. ⚠️🚨 There's someone in your comment section pretending to be you, and sending links to other things.

9. ✅I like the music.

10. ✅I like a whole bunch about this game, I've been playing it for hours, every day, I have maxed out three times now. I like so much about it, that it's easier for me to only point out the problems. So please know that I really like this game, and I think it's great.

(+1)
  1. ➡️ About the Infinite Tree:
The transition will come back later! For now, I prefer having the Infinite Tree inside the Plains — it gives more stimulation to tryhard and dedicated players instead of just waiting for trees to spawn.
  2. ➡️ Medium Logs:
All the logs will be completely redrawn by an artist, don’t worry.

  3. ➡️ Number keys issue:
You need to be in fullscreen for that to work. Which keyboard are you using, AZERTY or QWERTY?

  4. ➡️ The mole:
I’m going to remove the mole in the demo; it’s not really visually ready yet.

  5. ➡️ Forest Timer:
The whole Forest area will be reworked to be more fun and better overall.

  6. ➡️ Icons:
Yeah, the icons are pretty bad right now — they all come from an old cursor asset pack. New ones are planned.

  7. ➡️ Music loop:
I’ve already fixed the music looping in the next patch.

  8. ➡️ Someone pretending to be me:
Yes, I saw it. I’ve already deleted 5+ messages from someone pretending to be me and trying to scam Chop Chains players. DON’T CLICK those links.
If you want faster answers or the latest news, feel free to join the Discord — Itch comments are a bit slow. And I will never post download links in my own comments.

  9. ➡️ Music:
Thanks! Though this probably won’t be the final soundtrack.

  10. ➡️ Thanks!
Haha, thank you for the dedication! (Try typing “WOODMAX” while playing 😉)

Thanks a lot for all your feedback — it helps me a ton. For the past two weeks I’ve been trying to fix and improve things as fast as I can.
I hope you’ll enjoy the next patch!

New info, Devlog #30, November 16th 2025:

1. 🐜Sometimes the square under an Infinite Tree stays after being chopped, this usually happens when I chop very fast. Though, this fixes itself when a new tree spawns in it's place. A visual bug.

2. 🐜Switching from English to Spanish when I have maxed out all (possible) upgrades, and millions of wood, causes the game to load for what seems to be forever (I waited 2 minutes). This could be a problem in the late game.

3. 💭I've discovered that number key tab switching wasn't working for me because I last used my touch-screen to chop the wood, and not my mouse-pad. Likely making it so that the mouse-pad was not focused on the game, while the touch-screen-mouse was.

4. 💭Thanks for the tip! I don't know if you know, but it only works once.

5. ❓What music did you use? I'd like to listen to them, preferably on YouTube. None of it is listed/credited at all.

6. 💭I see that there will be 6 wood types in the future, I think it would be cool if you added a completely secret 7th wood type, that has a 0.1% chance of spawning. The W.D. Gaster of Chop Chains. I've also played EarthBound, so I think the idea of an inverted world would be cool.

7. 💭The water doesn't do anything right now. Maybe the water can change a bit as an indicator for when something (added in a future update) will happen.

8. ✅The lumberjack on the Steam page cover doesn't make an appearance in game, and I'm okay with that. It's kind of funny to see him there, knowing he's not even in the game.

(1 edit)

very fun game but it keeps crashing after around 30 minutes, plus it resets my progress when it does.

Hi! Thanks for your feedback 😊. Could you explain a bit more about the issue? For example, what device and OS you’re using, and exactly what happens before the crash? It’ll help me fix it faster!

Of course, although im not at all well versed in computers, im using a pc and I don't believe it to be a performance issue as it can run complex games without issue. The crashes don't have much in common but they do tend to happen when im cycling through the menus.

really fun but i think sound effect sometimes doesnt syncronies with cursor hit when there are many trees

We'll work on improving that in the future!

so just a Q cuz im confused, the "infinity tree" thing says it gives me an infinity tree that gives infinite rescorsed but the tree breaks and does nothing new?

(+2)

no, its mainly like a tree that infinitely re-appears, kind of like the minecraft one block

The Infinity Tree is actually a tree that instantly respawns somewhere else on the plains every time you cut it. That’s why it looks like it breaks without giving anything new — but it’s meant to reappear immediately in another spot.

oh

whenever i click off the page it gets stuck and I have to reload the page

is it just the cursor or everything ?

the entire game either turns just a white page OR it turns into a stretched picture of the green log for some reason

(1 edit)

Very weird — it works fine when I click outside or Alt+Tab!
If you can record a sequence showing the bugs next time it happens, it could help me.

I am trying to make an idle game, and I was wondering how you advertised to get people to play

(+2)

I didn't advertise once; it's only the algorithm and the players.

Whens coming the mobile vers., king?

After the PC release, I think — but no date yet.

welp i just finished the game by unlocking everything unlocklable but imma lose cause the stupid save button placement

Hey, sorry to hear that. Could you send me a screenshot of the issue? I don’t really see where the bug is.

yea sure sorry for the late reply, when i get back home i will though my tablet (im using my school computer at school)

(1 edit)

hey could you please move the buttons?

the buttons from the website are blocking it and i CANT save i've lost all of my progress and it made me very sad, love the game tho

currently playing from school cause like 10 teachers are absent *crying emoji*

Also, quests reset when you reload the page.

If you don’t save, yes—it will reset, sorry! On Windows it’s safer, but I’ll improve the save button so it shows a red indicator when your progress hasn’t been flushed.

Can you add a way to dismiss the wishlist on steam button? It gets quite annoying.

One more thing, I like the pixelated look! The buttons (and the checkmarks on the completed quests) do not follow that scheme which kinda draws away from the aesthetic.

Yes, it’s true that the buttons and checkmarks don’t follow the pixelated scheme, but like in Celeste and other games, we’ve decided to go with pixel art for the game elements and vector art for the UI, logos, etc.
For the Steam button, I’ll make it hide when you click on it. However, I think I’ll leave it on the screen each time you restart or reload the game, because it’s the most important thing for me.

Fun game! a way to spend medium trees on the forest (or something similar) would be nice

Yep, that's on the way! 🌳

(+1)

super neat game! my one suggestion is to add an infinite upgrade for the higher tier woods (like how the forest is a place to infinitely spend regular wood). I'm at a point in progression where I only have hard wood upgrades so I'm just stockpiling 10s of thousands of medium wood

(+1)

Yeah, that's exactly what I've been thinking about the past few days 😄. I'm considering either a system that converts wood into higher-tier wood, or an infinite upgrade for the higher-level woods. Thanks for the feedback—it really helps!

(+1)

simple and nice game

shevew lebew

(+1)

Really interesting game. I like the upgrade tree. Well thought out.

(+1)

Yes, the skill system took some time to configure, but it was totally worth it. Thank you!

Great game! love the aesthetic.Keep it going!

btw, when I try to fullscreen the game in browser, it leaves these ugly black areas on the side and bottom. Is that intentional?

Anyway, I'd love to see how this game progresses.

The expand button is kinda broken go into settings it will be better ;)

Anyone else get's the windows defender smartscreen when trying to run the app?

I think it’s all the Unity games that aren’t downloaded through a trusted launcher on your PC.

yes! how do you launch it?

(+2)

Just go to "More info" and then the "run anyway" button will appear next to "close"

(+1)

Yep, just click 'More info', then hit 'Run anyway' next to 'Close'. That should let it launch without issues!

thanks, both of you.

please  more web content :..(

For the moment, I’m improving the quality of life for chop chains.

I love it. This game is pretty recent too. Hope we can get the steam game soon. Also is this game gonna be paid for?

Thanks! I’ve been developing the game for only 4 weeks so far.

I’m still adding your feedback as I go through testing, and once everything’s solid, I’ll release the full version on Steam — it’ll be a paid version.

(2 edits) (+1)

This is really good, would wishlist in a second.

The progression feels nice, although it might actually be a bit too quick. I feel like I can barely see the effects of my upgrades before I can buy 5 new ones.

One small issue - I don't like how the popups in the skill tree are at absolute positions and can go outside of the screen. So I have to scroll back, so that not only the node, but also the entire box is inside again. It would be better if the game moved the popup to the edge of the screen instead of cutting it off.

Thanks, this keeps me motivated!

Yes, you’re not the only one I’ve seen struggle with the pop-ups in the skill tree — I’ll have to do something about it.

(+1)

this could rival leaf blowing sim, this is something great

(+1)

Solid ending, but lacks two things in my opinion

1. clear ending to the demo. Something that says you beat the demo and to wishlist. Also would be good to have end goal in final game too, most incrementals have it.

2.  steam wishlist link in description preferably at the top lol

solid game tho!

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Yeah, the end of the game definitely needs to be clearer, but I’ve only been developing Chop Chains for about 4 weeks, so I haven’t implemented the ending yet.

I’m currently waiting for Steam to validate the app.

Thanks again!

WOW only 4 weeks is great for what you have! I hope I got my game to your level in 4 weeks lol

(+1)

Thanks! I'm fully into it full-time.

The Wishlist is finally here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4139720/Chop_Chains/

I love the unique mechanics in this one. It's like nothing I've played before. Can't wait for more updates!

Thanks ❤️

(+1)

Definitely top 5 games i've found on this site. Love the simplicity and vibe of the game. Also where can I find the full version?  ༼ つ ◕‿◕ ༽つ

Thanks for this lovely message! The full version is coming soon.

(2 edits) (+2)

this looks pretty cool!

a couple issues:

- the "move your cursor over the tree" tutorial confused me because i thought it meant just moving the cursor once so that it stays over the tree, it could use an animation or different wording like "shake your cursor"

- at least the first two wood/currency icons look nearly identical when small and not right next to each other and i keep spending the wrong one by accident... it'd be nice to have their shapes be all different too

(+1)

Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, the first tutorial needs to be accompanied by visuals that show the movement.

As for the currencies, we’re going to redo everything with my artist.

can you give me a 32 bit download

I Will try !

(-1)

but can you try my game

(-1)

Btw i have a windows 7

THX

(1 edit)

Running in the browser. I never get past the spinner (white spinny thing on a black screen) while it's loading.

I saw this error in the console, not sure if it's related:

12ChopChains0.25Web.framework.js.br:9 Exception: WebGLPlayer does not support synchronous Addressable loading.  Please do not use WaitForCompletion on the WebGLPlayer platform.

  at UnityEngine.ResourceManagement.AsyncOperations.AsyncOperationBase`1[TObject].WaitForCompletion () [0x00000] in <00000000000000000000000000000000>:0

If you have a old pc then the pc can be the problem. Btw i have an old laptop so i cant play most of the games

Actually it turns out that for some reason everything is loading on HTTP 1.1 and so some requests just hang. I loaded the missing file intentionally and once it was in the cache I was good to go.

(+1)

Incredibly addictive and fun

Thank you so much! 😊 I’m really glad you’re enjoying it!

(+1)

A little gameplay, a little critique ;)

(+1)

Thanks! I watch every video made about my game and try to gather the most important feedback. Some of it depends on player preferences, but I’ll try to find a balance between all the feedback ❤️

(+1)

SOO MUCH WOOOD so much nice demo

Ahah, thanks man! You’re so expressive, it warms my heart with pleasure. I’m happy that you like Collecting Woods!
