you know what i truly can’t get over? the fact that Cat bought CatCo with plans for Kara and her together.
not “i’m a reporter. and there is no tool more powerful than the press. it also would be nice to have kara with me.”
BUT “i’m a reporter. there is no tool more powerful than the press. so kara and i TOGETHER are going to this important work”
Cat Grant in season two, encouraging Kara to figure out her next steps and push herself even though it’s scary: “You are standing there looking out at your options, the icy blue water, the fast-flowing river, and the choppy sea. And they all look very appealing to you because you’re dying to go for a swim, but you know that water is going to be cold, and the journey is going to be hard, and when you reach the other side, you will have become a new person. And you are scared to meet that new version of yourself. Now, we all get used to our own personas, and we’re used to our own comfort zones, but, trust me, in order to live, we must keep daring. Keep diving.”
Also Cat Grant in season two: “I’ve just been swimming in the same pool for too long. There are new seas out there that I have to go conquer. I need to dive.”
Cat Grant in the series finale, about to embark on a new adventure, asking Kara to join her and encouraging her to meet the newest and greatest version of herself in a literal wetsuit with goggles and an oxygen tank:
!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes I think about Lilith attending Sabrina’s funeral, and how upset she looks. I think about it for the following reasons;
- It means she did return to the coven after she defeated Lucifer, because otherwise she could not have known this happened
- It means the Aunts invited her to the funeral, because otherwise she wouldn’t have known when it was
- But, despite everything, Lilith watches on the outskirts, she doesn’t quite belong. Invited, but not belonging.
- Which means, yet again, Lilith is grieving alone in that moment. Hilda and Zelda at least have each other, Sabrina’s friends have each other, but Lilith is stood alone.
And that hurts. Because look at her processing the grief; the loss as well as the realisation that it is a loss, that she cared about Sabrina, and then the eye contact with Zelda, the only person who seems to acknowledge she’s even there.
It’s so sad. Quietly so. Everyone is grieving Sabrina, but who does Lilith talk to about it? Because ironically the only person who walked both realms as she does….was Sabrina, and she’s gone.
I just can never get over Lilith’s face and the upset you see. And as I said on another post, the loss was probably felt all the more keenly, because of everything with Adam too. Lilith is Queen of Hell, she has no more challengers to her throne, she’s ‘won’, and yet all there is is sadness.
clois + supercat parallels: the core of the story
You know it’s really obvious they cut a scene in episode 2 of Part 4 with Sabrina and Caliban telling Lilith and Lucifer they’re getting married. All the publicity stills of that scene show Lilith and Lucifer looking off to the side while they’re on the throne, and reacting to something. And it drives me mad that all these sorts of little, yet important, scenes have been cut while we had endless scenes of the teenagers making out with no dialogue. Or how endless the singing was.
Like….cut the singing and the snogging down a wee bit, you can still have it, just less, and fit int he actual scenes that progress and expand on narrative.
I really want to get a hold of every single deleted scene from Part 4
And before Part 4 aired, the writers said ‘There’s a real power play between Lucifer and Lilith in Hell and that’s a lot of their story. It’s like The Crown but in hell’ and the fact that story didn’t even happen shows how much they fucking cut. I bet we got to know a lot more of Sabrina M in those deleted scenes too.
I don’t actually dislike Part 4 in general, but I really, really, REALLY hate the editing choices and the narrative preferences/priorities made. That’s where the damage was actually done
One of the biggest moments that stands out to me as Sabrina’s ‘I am right even when I’m wrong’ behaviour is the Mandrake episode. And, disclaimer before I go into this, if you’re fave is Sabrina, this isn’t me attacking Sabrina’s character. It’s just I think she very clearly shows herself to be a Morningstar through and through.
But yes, the moment is, when Sabrina has been attacked by the Adam Creature and then Nick tells her the details of the prophecy and Sabrina realises that every prophecy detail she fulfilled, happened with ‘Ms Wardwell’ there. She says ‘I did those things at Ms Wardwell’s behest’, which is immediately absolving herself of blame, despite the fact Sabrina came to Lilith to ask for help to go into Limbo, that she needed no encouragement to restore Ros’ sight, and in fact doesn’t use the spell Lilith offers her but uses her own Dark Lord’s Sword powers instead, and while Lilith does provide the exorcism (and, we suspect, prompted the possession), Sabrina was already asking everyone she could speak to about exorcising Jesse. Lilith was simply the only one who gave her a spell.
Lilith was involved at every point, yes, but Sabrina saying she did them at Lilith’s behest is outright denial. Lilith had to really force Sabrina to sign the Book of the Beast, but everything else, Sabrina was all too willing to jump into.
And then when she confronts Lilith about it she says ‘I did those things with you whispering in my ear’, yet again absolving herself of any responsibility at all in her own actions.
If we take the limbo one as the prime example, absolutely everyone told her not to do it, and Zelda openly said she was doing a bad thing if she crossed, that she was messing with lives and breaking witch laws and messing with the universe, no one would help her, no one so she says she’ll go to Ms Wardwell who will help her. Lilith did not force Sabrina to go to Limbo, she actually didn’t even bring it up, Sabrina brought it up first (ditto for resurrecting Tommy. Lilith does want her to do that, yes, but Lilith actually never mentions and actually openly states Sabrina shouldn’t do it in a clear display of reverse psychology. It’s Sabrina who thinks of it, decides to do it and even steals the Book of the Dead to make it happen) and Sabrina did not have to go to her, she didn’t have to accept Ms Wardwell’s help and cross over. She could have chosen to listen to her Aunts, her loved ones, and accept that she could not retrieve Tommy’s soul. Sabrina made all these choices for herself, she had Lilith talking to her but she also had Zelda, Hilda, Ambrose all telling her things too.
The reason she went to Lilith is because Lilith was telling her what she wanted to hear; Sabrina wanted to do the exorcism, wanted to go to Limbo, wanted to restore Ros’ sight, and to declare she only did those things because of Lilith is just such a complete self-absolution of blame, putting all consequences and blame on someone else, and yet again is Sabrina putting herself on the side of self-righteousness despite the counter-evidence of her own actions.
Sabrina does stuff because she wants to do them, Zelda has said as much, Ambrose has said as much, and she chooses to listen to the person who helps her do that very thing she wants to do. It’s just the moment it backfires, she immediately distances herself from her own choices, to allow herself to be still in the position of ‘righteous’, and Lilith serves as the perfect patsy for Sabrina here, she’s an easy target to say ‘it’s her fault, she made me’, because she’s not related to her (so Sabrina has no blood loyalty) and when she finds out who she is, that she’s Lilith the first witch, she feels even more able to put blame on her completely (and I feel other people do this too, use Lilith as a way to deflect motive and blame).
I’ve seen a lot of posts talking about how it’s a shame caos was cancelled because it has such “good representation” so I thought it would be fun to make a list of all the good rep for women, queer characters, and people of color in caos!
- Prudence, a black woman, is lynched in the academy episode from p1
- Sabrina and the weird sisters sexually assaulting the bullies and using homophobia to blackmail them- and that being framed as “girl power”
- Sabrina (a white girl) says the weird sisters (2/3 woc) were racist to her
- If it wasn’t for Lachlan, Theo would have been killed off early on in the series
- Ambrose and Luke is the product of a magic roofie and ends in the bury-your-gays trope when Luke is killed by the witch hunters
- Roz’s blindness is cured by Sabrina and never mentioned again, it’s only used to prop up Sabrina’s story and not for Roz’s development at all
- The repeated use of the racist term “half breed”
- Roz’s entire character in p3 is reduced to her relationship with a man
- Multiple female characters are raped (Lilith, Zelda, Diana) yet their trauma is never addressed and the act barely condemned, and this is even made light of in the text (Sabrina’s “dream team” comment)
- Lilith is forced to carry her rapist’s baby in order to stay alive
- All the canonical bi/pan characters (Zelda, Nick, Ambrose) are involved in cheating, enforcing negative bi/pan stereotypes
- The Church of Night/caos!Satanism is said to be more sexually liberated yet several female characters are slut shamed by people in their community- Zelda by Shirley, Lilith by the demons, Sabrina by Nick
- All the canonical bi/pan characters (Zelda, Nick, Ambrose) are involved in cheating, enforcing negative bi/pan stereotypes
- Constance Blackwood died giving birth to the twins, black women are more likely to die in childbirth and they decided to include this??
- Speaking of black women dying, also Prudence’s mother drowning- it definitely seems like Blackwood fetishized black women
- The blackwood twins are kidnapped and brainwashed by blackwood and don’t have personalities outside of that
- Lupercalia is heteronormative as fuck
- The line “a witch and a warlock how it should be” is super xenophobic and heteronormative but is framed as romantic??
- Theo’s uncle Jesse is mentioned to have used to dress up in his mother’s dresses yet he’s referred to as “a sodomite, an abomination” then he goes to hell
- Even in the p4 promo photos, Prudence is shown wearing a metaphorical Nazi uniform!!! Who decided this!! Even if she’s a double agent or it’s an alt universe or whatever it’s still horrible optics
Caos does have some good rep but there’s a lot of fucking yikes happening. I’m not saying nothing bad should ever happen to anyone but writers should have really examamined the deeper means behind some of their choices ✌️
