Factory Reset began (conceptually speaking) as a project whereupon I had planned to revisit previous material, and reinvent or 'reset' it in a different aural environment. Then the pandemic happened.
Much of what continues to transpire, both troubles and tortures me: between the slow rise of domestic fascism, strained race relations and police violence, and the erosion of civil liberties, I realized I could not give birth to just another concept album. I wanted to say something, sharing the undercurrent of portension which seems a global phenomenon.
The album opens with the bucolic "Sun Is Shining", then progresses through several moods: anxiety, insomnia, foreboding, and yes, perhaps even a dystopian narrative - as told in the aptly titled "Sheltered (In Place)." The album's "Reprise" is more of a cautionary tale than a definitive ending, but various signposts occur throughout this aural suite of compositions - perhaps subtly, although no less trenchant.
