I love the very idea of the paris catacombs like. yeah sure the real-life city of paris has a straight-up megadungeon sprawling under it. Why not.
There’s also bones.
“Well how much bones.” I can assure you a comical amount. You’d think I was joking amount. Dark Souls ass decoration amount
Nobody in the notes mentioned this fact but i need to emphasize there is absolutely so much bones. There is a dungeon and it’s decorated like this. There’s bone piles and shit that hasn’t even been discovered. The mega dungeon is not only big it looks like that. They literally need to sort it out from the amount of bones. There are so many dead people beneath paris in a dark souls crypt.
Lotsa people in the notes of this post pointing out that Paris isn't unique in this regard and actually most cities have sprawling underground complexes under them (sewers, cisterns, railway systems, etc)
And like yeah but like. None of them look like a stereotypical evil dungeon in an RPG as the Paris catacombs. It's not just that it has a lot of tunnels under it it's that it has a lot of Dark Souls looking ass tunnels under it.

Went on a guided tour in 2003 (mostly to escape the heatwave), and to this day my wife swears someone tapped her on the shoulder - there was no-one behind us.
in 2004 they found a secret cinema down there
heres a blog post from 2012 with pictures:
apparently gizmodo and wired both found the group behind the cinema, 'les UX', but the articles linked are now error 404 pages.
I know I know, from an outsider perspective the robbery at the Louvre might, especially considering how basic the plan was (no high-tech devices or anything) seem funny. But frankly it is a catastrophe.
The pieces that were stolen are among the very few (for a European collection) pieces of French royal jewelry remaining in public collections in France, and are more likely than not going to be dismantled for their gems really fast so lost forever. Their historical and cultural value is incalculable, because, again, we simply do not have a lot of French royal jewelry.
Even most worryingly, the Louvre which is the biggest museum in the world and one (if not the) most visited museum, is probably the French museum making the most money (sorry for the link to the Figaro, but this article is in fact full of interesting data). That such a theft can happen at the Louvre probably means that all the collections presented in French public museums are in danger of being robbed.
And lo and behold, this theft is taking place in a context in which several French public museums have been the victims of robbery! This is of course linked to the ever decreasing money afforded to conservation in this country, because culture, art, history and preserving all three of those is of course not important enough to be properly financed. Do you think the Louvre getting robbed of such important pieces in such a ridiculous way is going to change things? Absolutely not! Public heritage is going to keep disappearing in private collections or simply through poor conservation, because our public power do not deem that important enough.
another thing I've seen: "who cares about a bunch of sparkly rocks belonging to royals?"
I care about the work of incredibly skilled artists that can teach us so much about their methods and lives and world being taken away from the public
I think you spelled it wrong there :)
I think it's also important to note that this is happening just a few months after the Louvre staff walked out, citing concerns of overtourism, under-resourcing, and understaffing. As OP said, we need to properly fund museums, or this is going to just keep happening
CHAT CONTROL TO BE VOTED ON THIS THURSDAY
I know americans are busy with fighting KOSA but I urge you to please help us by spreading the word about this, I can't say this enough, if chat control passes, citizen's private messages will be scanned via artifical intelligence, and they must comply, otherwise theyre not allwoed to send pictures, videos,or links anymore.
We have a discord server made to organize against it,with emails scripts you can use when contacting your meps :

Find your meps and tell them to vote no on this :
hii, sorry if im being a bit spammy but this has been brought back again.
if you want to fight this, then go to this site:
look for your country and contact your MEPs, especially contact those who are undecided
Holy what the fuck EU
Unfortunately, this is legit. Via Tech Radar, August 1, 2025. More details:
- Denmark has reintroduced the disputed child sexual abuse (CSAM) scanning bill on the first day of its EU Presidency
- The so-called Chat Control proposal could be adopted as early as October 14, 2025
- The proposal has been failing to attract the needed majority since May 2022
Denmark kicked off its EU Presidency on July 1, 2025, and, among its first actions, lawmakers swiftly reintroduced the controversial child sexual abuse (CSAM) scanning bill to the top of the agenda.
Having been deemed by critics as Chat Control, the bill aims to introduce new obligations for all messaging services operating in Europe to scan users' chats, even if they're encrypted.
The proposal, however, has been failing to attract the needed majority since May 2022, with Poland's Presidency being the last to give up on such a plan.
Denmark is a strong supporter of Chat Control. Now, the new rules could be adopted as early as October 14, 2025, if the Danish Presidency manages to find a middle ground among the countries' members.
Crucially, according to the latest data leaked by the former MEP for the German Pirate Party, Patrick Breyer, many countries that said no to Chat Control in 2024 are now undecided, "even though the 2025 plan is even more extreme," he added.

I also want to mention that the server op linked is still very much active (and yes the invite link in op's post still works)
West Papua’s Indigenous people have called for a boycott of KitKat, Smarties and Aero chocolate, Oreo biscuits and Ritz crackers, and the cosmetics brands Pantene and Herbal Essences, over alleged ecocide in their territory.
All are products that contain palm oil and are made, say the campaigners, by companies that source the ingredient directly from West Papua, which has been under Indonesian control since 1963 and where thousands of acres of rainforest are being cleared for agriculture.
More than 90 West Papuan tribes, political organisations and religious groups have endorsed the call for a boycott, which they say should continue until the people of West Papua are given the right to self-determination.
Raki Ap, a spokesperson for the United Liberation Movement for West Papua, which is overseeing the call, said: “These products are linked to human rights violations, in the first place, because West Papuans are being forced, with violence, to get off the land where they’ve lived for thousands of years, which has now resulted in ecocide.
“This is a signal to the countries who are dealing with Indonesia, especially those in the Pacific region, to take notice of who they’re dealing with and how they are basically allowing Indonesia to continue the colonial project in West Papua, the human rights violations, and also ecocide.”
West Papuans say more than 500,000 of their people have been killed by the occupation in the past six decades, while millions of acres of their ancestral lands have been destroyed for corporate profit. Indonesia, already the world’s largest palm oil exporter, is now breaking ground in West Papua on the world’s biggest single palm oil plantation, as well as a sugar cane and biofuel plantation that will be the largest deforestation project ever launched.
“West Papuans’, especially the ULMWP, position is very clear: we are a modern-day colony,” said Ap, speaking from the Netherlands.
“Indonesia hijacked the right to self-determination in 1962 when the Netherlands and Indonesia signed an agreement without any consultation in West Papua … After that, in 1969, there was a so-called referendum, which wasn’t fair, which wasn’t under international law, one man, one vote: just 1,025 men were handpicked at gunpoint to vote for integration to Indonesia.
“So this is the foundation of the Indonesia’s colonial project. When we became part of Indonesia against our will, basically the genocide unfolded.”
hi! let me share a wonderful resource with everyone
obviously, palm oil is a huge and massive issue causing immense damage to rich flourishing ecosystems. the process of planting palm means removing basically everything that was there before it, most often with burning techniques. yes, as in burning entire swaths of jungle/forest and all of its inhabitants in order to have land for a shitty monoculture for capital gain that never ever benefits the indigenous communities. the palm oil industry is an example of why #landback matters for all indigenous people across the globe and a perfect example pf how capitalism and colonialism directly harms all life forms. humans, animals, and plants.
if you want to do your best to avoid palm oils and giving money to bastard companies, i heavily recommend the app named PalmOil Scan made by the WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquariums). it’s an app that helps you learn more about the palm oil prevalence in the foods you eat. take an evening with the app, and scan things in your pantry closet/food storage areas. it may be a sobering experience, but you will be much better informed in the end.
information on the PalmOil Scan app can be found here and is downloadable from the Apple store and Google Play store. i hope some of you find it to be useful and help you make more ethical shopping choices
and one final note: fuck nestle
