Embossed braille should be standard on computer keyboards.

It would raise braille literacy more than anything else I could imagine - among both the blind and the sighted. Currently braille is actually vanishing due to an increasing reliance on audiobooks and screen readers.

I think that braille has a lot of potential use among non-blind groups. As an alternative to traditional writing for dyslexics. As a way to help photosensitive people type with their eyes closed. Or simply as a means to help sighted people find things without needing the lights on all the time!

acutelyhomosexual

Accessibility note: It’s important that braille doesn’t vanish because it’s one of the only written language that works for blind and sight-impaired people. It is necessary for them to interact with the real world where screen readers and audio devices are not available to them, such as elevators, most major metro systems, stairwells, doorways, the bumps in the sidewalk at corners are actually developed in conjunction with audio signals so blind people don’t step off the curb into traffic before the correct time.

Digital technology has made accessibility so much easier for all of us disabled people, but we still *need* the real-world accommodations that we fought and died for

joules-per-second

I got curious about this, and I found these online:

These stickers can apparently be added to any (non-embossed) keyboard; they look like a great accommodation for anyone interested in gaining fluency!

Hey. Heyhey. Do me a favor real quick.

If you don't already know you have issues doing so, squat down real quick. Bend your knees all the way and touch the floor. Just make sure you can do it. Okay? For me? And then stand up all the way and make sure you can balance on one foot.

Like. You don't need to blow it into some huge thing. Just. Make sure all your bits and peices still work the way you think they do.

sea-salted-wolverine

Can you turn your head to look behind you without twisting your shoulders? What about standing on your toes? If you sit down on the floor can you get back up without using your hands?

If there was ever a tumblr post worth sending to your mom, it's this one.

Just saying, bodies are a use it or lose it kinda thing.

sea-salted-wolverine

okay so every time I see this post crop back up in queues and notifications I end up thinking about it. Because I made the post and even I'm still doing the thing where I read the post about maintaining range of motion in my delicate meatsuit and I nod and hmm and think yeah that's a good idea and then dont move from where I'm curled up shrimp style staring at the nightmare rectangle.

So like. Thinking real hard about moving doesn't count as moving. Major bummer. Anyways. Joints.

palis-delon

Hey, hey hey.

If you have a hard time with weight bearing movement - like squatting - you can sit down on a hard chair and mimic the movement.

For me it was sitting with my legs spread out, lifting one until I could grab my foot, and holding it there for a moment. Then repeating on the other side.

For you it could be lifting your leg a few inches and holding under the knee.

You can hold onto a chair back or the wall if you can't balance on one foot.

Maybe you turn your head until you can see your shoulder.

Do the biggest movement you can, it will still help you.

Reblogging for future reference. I have major issues with weight bearing movement to the point where if I can’t get off the floor, it’s an emergency situation if I don’t have any furniture to climb.

Fall 1998 Exterior CC Set

I finally created the set I've been wanting to create for ages!!! I wanted to add a couple of doors too, but my cc skills aren't there yet. Hopefully soon!
This set is inspired by the homes i used to walk past everyday in my neighborhood growing up in the suburbs of Massachusetts.

Previews and info under the cut!

A new month means a new set ✨ This time I’ve finally tackled the Laundry Room!

Inspired by period dramas and service areas with glass walls, I created a set of doors and windows for all wall heights that slot together seamlessly. Perfect for partitioning spaces or even building a conservatory 🌿

Of course, the heart of the set is the washing machine and dryer — both functional and deco-only, so you can use them even without the Laundry Pack. They work on their own, in the Fridgenook from Part 11, or in the new counters made especially for them. You’ll also get a laundry basket (functional + deco), two cabinets (one with an ironing board, one empty), and plenty of clutter: washing powder, detergent, softener, spray soap, an iron, a set-up ironing board, and a basket of neatly folded laundry.

This Set is on early access and you will find it here

Thank you so much for your support 💛 I hope you’ll enjoy building with these pieces — and without spoiling too much, next month brings a big change of scenery 🐎

The Gimli Glider! So many things came together to make this safe landing:

  • The co-pilot was a local and knew all the local airstrips
  • ...including the decommissioned 10,000 foot military runway they ultimately chose as their destination
  • ...but because it had been decommissioned, was now utilized by a local go-kart club for racing
  • ...which, on that day, was indeed having a great time racing go-karts on the old runway
  • ...and because there was no way to alert the people on the ground and the plane’s approach was utterly silent (NO ENGINES) with kids in go-karts were whizzing around on the runway, the final approach was, shall we say, alarming
  • ...until a parent looked up and noticed a giant fucking airplane getting bigger and bigger
  • OH GOD HE’S LANDING HERE
  • Thus within seconds the whole area was cleared by frantic parents
  • Plane lands perfectly, but without power they had to drop the gear via gravity and the nose wheel failed to lock into place
  • Front gear collapses
  • Plane screeches to a halt, and because they landed at a go-kart event pretty much every dad has a fire extinguisher, so they manage to extinguish the small fire caused by friction
  • The only minor injuries were due to passengers jumping from the emergency exit slides, which dangled off the ground due to elevated tail height

If you have 27 spare minutes and want an excruciatingly detailed, technical breakdown of what happened as told by a real pilot, here’s the Mentour Pilot episode on the Gimli Glider.

animeengineer

I read an article about this back around 1990 and my favorite part was that, after landing and stopping, the pilots were reflexively going through the “crash landing” checklist, shutting down all the fuel pumps and lines to prevent a fire from spreading, until it dawned on them halfway through that they didn’t need to do those steps because the tanks were quite empty.

Detecting and fixing shiny post patch custom content

giuliettasims

Hi everyone! I put a mini-tutorial explaining how to find CC that makes sims shiny right in CAS without having to load the game, and instruction how to fix faulty content. I posted on my website GiuliettaSims.com because I feel that it is easier to read on wider page.

Read at GiuliettaSims.com

And if you have any additional questions about this mini-tutorial feel free to ask either in comments on Tumblr. I won’t respond to questions about where to download Studio and how to make it work. I linked everything in the post.

giuliettasims

I have updated this tutorial a little bit. An old one was tad outdated.
