Got scammed, My builder did NOTHING.

I hired a tradesperson via MyBuilder and paid a deposit for materials.
The tradesperson failed to show and didn't reply to messages.
MyBuilder offer the "new tradesperson promise" which offers to cover what you owe a tradesperson if the work isn't completed however, in this situation they have not offered to refund my deposit and advised I take legal advice or contact small claims court to recover my stolen funds. Great service 👍🏼 you allow a scammer to steal money from potential customers and then refuse to uphold your "promise". A truly lazy, disgusting way to operate a platform and allow scammers free reign.

Love our new ensuite!

Joe has made an excellent job of our ensuite. He's been professional and hard working throughout. We've been stung so many times by cowboys, Bawtry Heat have been a breath of fresh air! Knowledgeable, professional, tidy, organised, value for money and much more. Can't praise this company enough, we will be having Joe back to refit the family bathroom shortly!

Disgusting company

Disgusting company! Cannot understand where the positive reviews are coming from.
Huge fees within a couple of days of opening the account, purely because a ‘potential customer’ states they’re interested but then their account closes or they don’t answer the phone. One customer stated they’re interested had 5 houses, so I incurred in a £46 fee based on that- to find it was just one house and the customer again just didn’t reply nor respond. They’ve also not accepted my positive reviews despite sending evidence. Oh and I’ve now requested to close the account but heard nothing.
Steer clear.

It is also free for you to express interest in a new lead, but if the customer chooses to share their contact details with you (shortlist) then we charge a shortlist fee.

When you're shortlisted, we exchange your contact details with the customer's contact details so you can reach out to them and discuss a quote to give you a chance of winning the job.

That is the service we are providing and the service you agreed to when you registered to join MyBuilder.

I understand it can be frustrating when you are unable to win your first few shortlists. But the overall goal of the site is that once you win your first few jobs, you will gain a lot more from the site than you spend.

Five star and 93% Sattisfaction ? You are kidding me! Try calling yourself.

Not quite sure where the 5 star and 93% positive reviews are coming from but as an electrician registered with my trader, I have to say that it is impossible to contact the company by phone and messages to support are rarely answered satisfactorily.

My experience over three months of calling them and emailing the support service via the online messaging service before chucking the towel in is that the their phone line is either engaged or the phone rings out. I have never managed to speak to anyone. As far as responding to messages, it feels like you are exchanging emails with someone that has set responses and no real answers of ability to help.

In my time with them, Customer service was non existent and support assistance is zero. The business model is that the customer is not charged for entering a job they need doing, MyTrader publishes it on their board, you, the trader expresses interest and in the leads that are published and if the customer ticks on your expression of interest you are charged a fee + VAT. Multiple traders usually click on leads and express interest and are charged so it is in the interest of MyTrader to have as many traders as possible express interest on a lead and customers to request a quotation from as many traders possible as it is all money in their pockets.

Here is the twist, if the customer decides he no longer wants to do the job or decides to post it somewhere else, the traders that have expressed interest are stuffed with a fee and no job. For the trader it is a loser all round. For the customer if he really is a customer, no prob, just post another job.

This is not explained properly and leads to traders building up massive charges very quickly. What a joke. The biggest joke of all is that should you find a lead was a complete waste of time, you are expected to take a credit which you can use against another lead rather than a refund.

I have brought this up as it is against the online selling regulations which state that a customer must be given a choice of a credit or a refund, it is up to the customer to chose and cannot be forced to take a credit.

Terrible company just after your money so beware!

Please look at response which will give you an idea of the type of people you are dealing with.

It is a standard response, select the negative reviews (and probably others) and most of them have this standard letter in response to complaint.

It is one of their standard letters, there is not personal touch, it does nothing to address the issues that i raised.

For your information the law on selling services or goods on line is as follows:

Online/Distance Selling:
You have a legal right to cancel within 14 days and receive a full refund (not a credit), including original delivery costs.

You can demand a refund. Do not accept a credit note if the item is broken or service is not delivered.

'No Refund' Signs:
Any sign or policy stating "no refunds" or "credit notes only" is invalid under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if the item is faulty or if service is not as described or not fit for purpose.

Refusal to Refund:
If a trader refuses to give a refund for a faulty item or a service that cannot be delivered you can report them to Trading Standards.

The service of providing real leads for traders that MyTrader claims to do is "not fit for purpose" and certainly "not as described" as on multiple occasions there is no customer on the other end of a lead. The leads are never verified or checked and more than often are not customers looking to have work completed or done. Obviously, it is difficult to prove this but looking at MyTrader complaints highlights this is a major issue encountered by many traders.

Getting the job done

I like My Builder.com. I post the job I would like done, with site photos, and I immediately get a list of potential tradesperson. I like that I can read their individual reviews and get a feel for how they work. I have used the site four times, with a good experience each time. I like to choose at least three responders and get quotes from each. I like the messaging service to contact people but like to speak to them in person, when making my final choice.
