Advanced Heating and Air Conditioning Beware
Advanced Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc.
Portland, OR
We purchased a Trane Heat Pump from Advanced Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. in October 2023.
Two issues arose immediately. The installers did not use a vibration isolating rubber bellows between the inside Air Handler and the heating ducts as specified in our order. They also installed a massive cylindrical heat pump where the previous Ruud unit stood. Except the Trane heat pump extended halfway across the sidewalk that ran from the front of the house to the rear. We informed Advanced that neither condition was acceptable. Advanced then installed the bellows as agreed. The outside heat pump issue could be resolved with a more compact model at a $2,000 increase. That figure got negotiated down to $1,000, which we had no recourse but to accept.
But this company’s abuse doesn’t stop there. Heat Pumps lose most of their efficiency when the temperature drop into the 30’s. The system is intended to automatically switch heating from the Heat Pump to electric coil heat when the outside temperature falls below a set temperature. However, this switch to electric heat was not working, and we had to manually make the switch to electric heat when the temper dropped below 37 degrees F. and then reset to heat pump when the temperature rose.
We contacted Advanced who said they would send someone out to make the correct settings, and charge us $149. We thought a charge was unwarranted and should have been corrected gratis, since the unit was not operating correctly and never did, but we agreed to the charge because, once again we had no recourse. But it gets worse. When the repair man came and completed the setup, which took approximately 15 minutes, he then said the bill was for $249. He must have thought we were complete idiots, and maybe we are for dealing with Advanced. We refused to pay the $100 difference, and settled for the original $149.
The two things we learned from this experience is: 1. We should never have used Advanced Heating and Cooling. 2. We should have purchased a new Ruud heat pump instead of switching to Trane.
