Hello! My name is Jeremy, but feel free to call me Jez. I am a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) and have been immersed in the world of American Sign Language (ASL) for 35 years. Growing up, nearly all of my relatives—about 99%—were deaf or hard of hearing, which has profoundly shaped my understanding and appreciation of ASL and the deaf community. As an ASL Tutor, I am passionate about teaching and guiding individuals through the intricacies of American Sign Language. My goal is to impart not only the language but also the rich culture and history of the deaf community. Whether you are a beginner or looking to improve your skills, I am here to support your learning journey. Thank you for visiting my page, and I look forward to sharing the beauty of ASL with you!

Outstanding ASL Tutor: Jeremy's CODA Insights

I've been working with Jeremy for the past three months, initially to review my ASL class material and now to learn new signs. I began learning ASL due to my own hearing loss, which makes my progress and understanding of the language personal and important. My experience with Jeremy has been incredibly valuable, and I highly recommend him to anyone on their ASL journey.

Jeremy's teaching approach is exceptional. He has a provides historical context for signs wherever possible, which significantly aids in memory retention. What truly sets him apart is his detailed explanation of sign nuances, including how slight variations in hand shape or position can alter meaning. This crucial insight, often not covered in traditional classes, has been immensely helpful in developing my accuracy and understanding. Because I'm just beginning to learn ASL, and Jeremy is a hearing person himself yet deeply immersed in Deaf culture as a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA), he's uniquely positioned to explain these nuances in a way that truly resonates with and benefits a hearing learner like me. He helps bridge that gap, making the intricacies of ASL much clearer.

As the only 1 of 2 hearing member of his immediate and extended family, Jeremy offers invaluable insight into Deaf culture. He patiently shares his lived experiences, helping me navigate cultural norms and ensuring I communicate respectfully within the community. This cultural guidance is particularly important for someone like me, who is just starting to learn ASL and wants to engage with the Deaf community thoughtfully.

Jeremy is consistently patient, professional, and reliable. His lessons are well-structured, adapting to my learning style, and he is always responsive to scheduling needs.

In summary, Jeremy is an outstanding ASL tutor. His deep knowledge, patient teaching style, and unique cultural insights make him an invaluable resource for any ASL student. I look forward to continuing my learning with him.
