Hoover’s fine, does what it says. Only thing, it sometimes gets stuck under the table and just spins. Bit annoying but not the end of the world. I might return it as only had it a few days, so will up... See more

I wrote a negative review after my 80 year old mother was pressurised into providing her bank details for what she was led to believe was for the pending BT upgrade. She then had two removals of money from her bank account and sent an item in the post that she did not want and did not need. Had to close her bank account and open another one. All very distressing for her. This review was subsequently removed after I refused to give Smarterbox my personal details. Be warned this is a scam who prey on the elderly and vulnerable. Why is it that good honest reviews warning others are removed. I reported this company to Trading Standards too.

Easy to use easy to understand, and gives great peace of mind. The plan works as expected and support was helpful. Definitely worth having.

My mother has had £12.99 taken out of her account and has not agreed to anything as was scammed last year into giving out her details so hasn’t agreed to anything or given out information. She has just called them and they say she did and won’t give a refund. She doesn’t even have devices she needs insurance for. Scammers!

AVOID THIS COMPANY. SCAMMERS. They rang my elderly mother and made out they were calling from BT. They duped her into giving them her bank details. They sent a call blocker (ironically) device by recorded delivery with a letter stating that she had a contract to pay for this monthly. The dated letter and cancellation terms had already expired 7 days prior to the delivery day so there was no way to cancel. After contacting the bank, two DDs had been setup and one payment for over £125 had already been taken. Also reported to UK Report Fraud. Bank has cancelled the DD and refunded. Avoid this company and shop elsewhere.

Was helping my 90yo mother with her bank accounts and noticed two payments a month going to 'Smarterbox'. She didn't know what it was for but vaguely remembers being offered insurance of some kind a year or so ago. She states that she didn't want it.
Apart from that, there is absolutely no documentation to be found - no emails other than those informing her of the Direct Debit, no customer refererence numbers, no paper documents. Very suspicious.
Fortunately, I managed to get the DDs cancelled and warned our bank of what was going on. If there is a repeat then I will not hesitate in going to the police. This firm may 'just' be on the right side of legality but it's clear they have a policy of preying on the elderly and vulnerable. Despicable.
Edit: I have been contacted by Smarterbox wanting more info. I don't have a ref number as my mother had NO documentation. I do have screenshots of the DDs. Myself and my brother have PoA from our mother and neither of us were aware of this. She denies ever requesting this 'service'. I really hope SB don't now bombard my mother with questions. If this happens, I will write to my MP and contact the police.

This is a scam.
They Rang my elderly Mother who has no tech in her house, and set up a direct debit. My Mother has no recollection of this. First I knew of it, was when a letter came through the post from SmarterBox.
Rang them to cancel they would not cancel.
Cold Calling people, and deceiving them into giving Bank Details is a disgrace

I’ve had a solid experience with this gadget plan so far. When I needed help customer support was good. The process felt straightforward rather than full of fine print. That said response times could be a bit faster during, and I wish a few more accessories were included. Overall it’s a good plan that does what I need for my device.

SCAMMERS, THIS COMPANY EXPLOIT ELDERLY PEOPLE BY PRETENDING TO BE FROM REPUTABLE COMPANIES TO OBTAIN PERSONAL DETAILS WHICH ARE THEN USED DECEPTIVELY TO SET UP DIRECT DEBITS WITHOUT CONSENT. DESPICABLE AND DECEITFUL COMPANY !!!!!
EDIT- I have been requested by trust pilot to provide further information regarding this review, my review says it all, if the company are sorry about the experience then maybe they should stop scamming people.there is no way I would share any personal details with this company. I will be sharing all details with Action Fraud, this company need to be stopped!!!

Smarterbox are a fraudulent firm who prey on elderly, vulnerable people. My mother-in-law has been receiving 4 calls each Monday morning from them even after they scammed her in December into revealing her bank account details proporting to be BT. They then set up a direct debit on her account for £179. We also suspect her bank details have been sold on by Smarterbox to another company which has today set up another direct debit against her account. Shame on you for extorting money from elderly people.

I work at a bank and multiple times I've seen this company set up direct debits for large individual transactions £2-300, yet when I check their website they only seem to offer a £12.99 monthly subscription. Elderly customers that don't seem to realise they've signed up for anything or even recognise the company. Be wary.

I received a letter this morning from a company called SmarterBox.co.uk welcoming me, stating that my Plan is active. Execept that I didnt sign up to any plan, agree to any monthly payments.
I phoned up, got a quick answer fortunately, and they alleged that I agreed to it in December, which I did not.
