New Tim Drake headcanon:

He’s always been invested in video games — especially story games. He loves dissecting them and solving the mysteries; something about his detective instinct. He just has so many theories, and the people need to know about them, right?

So he starts a YouTube channel. He goes through hundreds of games, sharing his ideas, and starts to gain a following after a little bit because people realize holy shit this actually makes WAY more sense, damn it is this guy a genius?

He goes through and analyzes everything and spends hours on his videos. Most of his non-Robin-related free time is spent on his channel. He doesn’t show his face in his videos, hide his name, and his voice is unplaceable enough that he just leaves it as is.

No one finds it, and he doesn’t really think to bring it up, because to him it’s just some side hobby. Until one day, of course, Bruce, who is just doing routine checks on the batkids’ internet activities, happens to come across this channel. His immediate reaction is to make sure Tim hasn’t given anything away, which of course he hasn’t, so he doesn’t think to bring it up until Bruce mentions a new video he posted at dinner one day.

Dick freaks out. “Holy shit, that’s you??? I used to LOVE those videos.“ Steph laughs at him and is like, “seriously?? You guys didn’t know?” Damian groans about how “Jon loves that channel,” and he just KNEW he had a reason to dislike it. Duke was actively watching one of the videos and is now desperately trying to hide his phone. Cass doesn’t know what YouTube is. Jason could not give less of a fuck. Everyone is screaming.

Basically, I’m saying MatPat is just another Tim Drake alter ego.

I’ve always had this theory that the sorting hat can’t really see into first years’ minds as it says it can. Or even if that all isn’t a lie, that it’s not how the sorting hat makes it’s decisions.

I think instead it’s based off the students’ reactions to the hat itself. Because being put in a stressful yet non life-threatening situation is a pretty good way to judge true character.

Gryffindors are the ones who ask - one of their house traits is bravery, and what takes more courage than making a request to the being that is literally deciding your future? We see some evidence of this in the books, plus can infer more; We know Harry asked to be put in any house besides Slytherin. It makes sense that Ron would have asked for something, given the Weasley family reputation of being Gryffindors through and through. As for Hermione, maybe she saw something in Harry that day, maybe she was somehow drawn by fate to those two boys she met on the train. But either way, she made her choice, and Gryffindor is where she ended up.

For Slytherins, they’re the ones who are sure of where they’re going to end up. Their house trait is pride for a reason. They don’t need to ask, because they know where they’re going. It’s why Slytherin is the house of the purebloods, of wizards and witches who’s families have been at it for centuries. Their lives are already set, already planned out for them, so they don’t need to ask. They already know.

Ravenclaws question the sorting hat in it’s entirety. They want to know how it works. They care more about the process than the result. They’re naturally curious - that’s how you acquire knowledge, by asking questions. They want to know the inner workings of magic, and so they think.

As for Hufflepuffs, they are simply excited. Overwhelmed, maybe, but excited nonetheless. Living in the moment. The here and now is something to enjoy - their futures are being determined, sure, but as for now the simplicity of the present is enough to fulfill.

I absolutely love that the one constant about James Potter is that no matter who he’s being shipped with, he’s always obsessive.

With Lily? He’s been in love with her since first year. He screams his love from the rooftops and loudly asks her out at least once a week.

With Regulus? He’s quieter, because he knows that’s what reg wants. But that just means he’s even more obsessed - almost possessive - behind closed doors.
