巷で論争が続いている「糖質制限食」。2型糖尿病の食事療法としての有用性をめぐる議論だったのが、いつしか痩身ダイエットにまで拡がった次第。ここらで原点に戻り食事療法としての糖質制限食をみてみよう。 1月中旬、日本内科学会の英文誌に北里大学糖尿病研究センターから糖質制限食ｖｓカロリー制限食に関する報告が掲載された。試験対象は、同センター外来に通院する2型糖尿病患者24人（平均年齢63.2歳、うち男性が12人）。平均ＢＭＩは25.8で、糖尿病の指標となるHbA1cは平均7.6％である（6.5％以上で糖尿病と診断される）。 被験者のうち12人には従来通りのカロリー制限食（体重1キログラム当たり25～30キロカロリー）を、残りの12人には糖質制限食として1食の糖質量を20～40グラム、1日の糖質摂取量70～130グラムに制限してもらった。ちなみに、糖質制限食群には、タンパク質や総カロリー摂取量の制限
