Not an FAQ, but a protip: your ask is more likely to get answered if you ask off anon, because then I have the option of answering privately. I would rather not spam my followers with yet another repetition of an oft-answered query. Here’s a few that I get asked, well, frequently!
First: If your question is about a recent post, please give the first page or two of my blog a read. Likely, I’ve gotten the same or similar question already, and I don’t tend to answer the same query multiple times so as not to spam people’s dash.
How many dice do you have?
More than six! For real though…good question! I don’t keep count. Lots of them!
Where did you get those rainbow inked dice?
I made them myself! I re-ink some of my dice to enhance their look, and it helps me relax after work. I have two reinking tutorials here, so you can give it a try yourself as well! In the case of the rainbow ones, all it took was a lot of patience and teeny tiny dabs of paint with the smallest brush I could find.
Where do you buy your dice?
I buy my sets whenever I can from my Friendly Local Game Shop–not only do I not have to pay shipping, it’s always great to buy local and support local nerds. If they don’t have that one thing that makes you grabby hands, they should have the most current Chessex catalogue and the ability to order whatever you like! Also check out the single dice bins while you’re there, occasionally you find something beautiful and unique.
For things that are a bit more esoteric, I go online. You can find a long (but not comprehensive) list of online retailers here!
Can you recommend a good dice bag/seller?
Not offhand; honestly, when my collection outgrows its current bag, I hit up Etsy and search for knitting bags! They’re the right size for a big collection and they look super cute too.
Where did you get the rose set? Flower set? Bunny d20?
They were made by LittleCLUUs, a custom resin dice maker. Before you order some, though, be aware that she has a long turnaround time and isn’t the best at communication. Great at dice, not so great at business.
May I use your photos for [my header/icon/instagram/facebook/etc]? May I put your photos on a product like a shirt or mug?
I’m really flattered you’d want to, but please don’t reupload my photos anywhere, and that includes as an icon or header. And especially don’t try to monetize them! (I feel silly and vain even including that, but well, it’s a question I’ve been asked before.)
May I use your photos for stimboards/other non-commercial purposes?
Again I’m really flattered, but no, I prefer that no one reupload my photos on any public platform.
So what’s the deal with some Chessex borealis being discontinued? Don’t they know we love them?
Oh, they know! They had no choice. You see, the old shimmer element they used in their borealis line abruptly became completely illegal to buy or own in Germany (where they do their manufacturing) because it started being used in euro bills. So for counterfeiting reasons, it’s now a controlled substance. They were able to find a substitute glitter for some of their borealis colors, but others didn’t work with it and so had to be discontinued.
But I googled and Chessex still has those old discontinued dice you were talking about on their site–
I’m gonna stop you right there, friend. I really appreciate you trying, but Chessex’s site is suuuuuuuuper out of date and not indicative of what they actually have in stock.
