Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:138.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/138.0

Steps to reproduce:

I tried to save some file:

  • In the menu: "Save page as..."
  • By right-clicking a link: "Save link as..."
  • By right-clicking an image: "Save image as..."

... or selecting a file by clicking the "Select file" button next to "Attach a file" on THIS web site!!

Actual results:

Nothing. Firefox was not able to save files to disk.

After uninstalling Firefox and re-installing again, saving files worked. However, when I started Firefox again the next day, the problem occurred again.

Expected results:

A dialog field should have been shown.

After specifying a file name, Firefox should have saved the file.

... or - on this web site - it should upload the file that I selected.

The bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=236448 seems to be related to this one.

The problem lies in the exact Firefox version:

  • The version installed using "apt" or "snap" has the problem
  • The TAR file downloaded from the Firefox web site (and installed manually) works correctly

The FIrefox profile does NOT play any role:

Even when deleting all Firefox profiles from the hard disk and creating a single new profile using "firefox -profilemanager", the problem is still present.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Widget: Gtk' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Component: Untriaged → Widget: Gtk
Product: Firefox → Core

Can you journalctl -fxe ? I'm wondering if there's a regression on a package or AppArmor rule.

What distro are you on?

Can you share also about:support ?

Flags: needinfo?(martin)

Nathan you may want to know about that

Flags: needinfo?(nathan.teodosio)

Thanks, I do, and will wait for the details on the operating system.

Reporter: Please also clarify whether the file picker window shows up after attempting the operation.

What distro are you on?

I'm using Ubuntu 22.04.1

Can you share also about:support ?

Unfortunately, I deleted the "snap" version because the version from the TAR file is running correctly.

The version from the TAR file reports:
