Easy setup and good experience so far

Opening an N26 account was easy, and the verification process went smoothly. You receive a free virtual card, and for €10 you can order a physical card. The debit Mastercard works very well and can often be used like a credit card, which is a big plus.

One thing to keep in mind is that the money on your account also counts as your available credit, so make sure you have sufficient funds. Adding money is easy via iDEAL, which is very convenient.

For now, I’m satisfied with N26. I’ve read many negative reviews about accounts being blocked, but I haven’t experienced this myself so far. At the moment, I’m a happy user.

I've been a fan of N26 for a few years now, and I've recommended it to everyone I know. Over the years, I've had two online scams, and I've never felt abandoned. They managed to resolve both cases and recover the stolen funds.

I am extremely satisfied with using N26, but I think it would be much better if they introduced some more innovations in internet banking. Perhaps there are features for transferring money to other countries, but they are not available in my application, so I cannot send money.

So far so good at N26

So far so good at N26. Very happy so far.
However, I do hope it stays like this and that things like the arbitrary freezing of accounts as per what people say on social media, will be things of the past.
In order to avoid such a problem, human assistance ought to be a priority at N26. AI bot can all too easily lead to arbitrary decisions and freezing of accounts on dubious reasons and motives. Freezing of accounts ought to be decided by courts of law, not AI bots or algorythm of the system, and for criminals only, The vast majority of people, like myself, using N26 are good people doing good things with their money.
It is not the mission of banks to find financial criminals but that of the judiciary.

I've been trying to log in for days

I've been trying to log in for days, but I keep getting an error message saying that “something went wrong.” I don't want to have my face scanned to log in, especially since it's not compliant with data protection regulations. N26 has not obtained my consent. This is terrible, I'm going to cancel my account again!

Fraud after phone theft

Fraud after phone theft, no investigation, no accountability

My phone was physically stolen and shortly after that multiple unauthorised transactions were made using my N26 card via Apple Pay and 3D Secure.

I immediately reported the theft and provided a police report and all requested information. Despite this, N26 refused to refund the transactions, claiming that they were “authorised” simply because Apple Pay or 3D Secure was used.

There was no proper investigation, no analysis of how the attacker gained access after the theft, and no proof presented of any gross negligence on my part, as required under PSD2.

Instead, N26 relied on generic explanations and closed the case, telling me to resolve the issue with the merchant or the police. This is not an acceptable response from a regulated European bank when dealing with fraud following a device theft.

The matter has now been escalated to supervisory and dispute-resolution authorities.

Based on this experience, I cannot trust N26’s fraud handling or customer protection.

High potential but low execution.

Financial products offered for the Italian market are non existant, despite the costs of the subscription is the same as the other markets (e.g., Germany), making not reasonable to subscribe.
Money boxes for savings are only for paid accounts, which doesn't make sense at all.
Debit card for the Standard subscription is really awful.
It's a pity, because I would prefer N26 over Revolut, since it's simpler and leaner.
Revolut paid subscriptions are a no brainer, while N26 Smart or Metal doesn't make any sense in Italy.
