A very good stay at the Cecil with a large room on the 7th floor. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful from the reception desk on arrival to the staff in the restaurant. The Head Chef is extremely good and has a great team with him providing a wide choices at breakfast. The added bonus of the Cecil, I think it’s unique, is a complimentary meal every evening. If you have eaten at lunchtime it’s more than enough to keep you going until breakfast. ( Note to Head Chef, please keep this going!). The first week in January was extremely quiet, at times we felt like the only guests, I imagine it attracts a lot of business at other times. Happy to return again as it’s perfectly placed for all the city centre and fjord attractions.
This was definitely an experience.
The receptionist on Monday night delivered what must be my worst hotel experience at Thon. While we were sitting in the lobby five meters away and trying to have a conversation before saying our final goodbyes, he stood and whistled loudly, entirely off-key and for a long time, before he turned on loud rap music from his mobile and tried to rap to it, switching back and forth every now and then.
My partner and I were at the Thon hotel Spectrum Sunday late evening/early Monday after we realized too late that the last train back to our respective municipalities had left. We had therefore had to arrange accommodation quite suddenly, and booked a single room for the night.
After pre-paying and getting to the hotel, we were told that a single room was exclusively for one person. Slightly surprised by the outright refusal and completely absent empathy and customer service, I then asked to register and pay for an extra guest in the single room. The receptionist flatly rejected this.
No argument about being fully booked or anything like that. He justified the refusal solely on the basis of "fire procedures," an argument that seemed inappropriate since it was essentially about registering a person on a guest list. Supposedly, anything else he would "get reprimanded" by his boss for.
No conditions stated that this would not be possible and I have never encountered that before anywhere.
The receptionist insisted that the only solution was to buy an extra room at full price, and dismissed the request in a very unserious manner. No room for anything else.
The result was that only one of us could stay, and it was decided that she would check in, while I went to stay at Oslo Central Station until the trains started again in the morning. However, we were "allowed" to sit and talk before saying goodbye. Yes, that was the wording.
While we sat in the lobby five meters away and tried to have a quiet conversation before the last goodbye, stood around and whistled loudly, entirely off-key and for a long time. He then decided to put on loud rap music from his mobile and tried to rap to it. Loudly. For a long time. Standing completely alone by himself. Completely. Absurd. The noise was headache-inducing, and the behavior was intolerable. Listening back to the audio recording afterward is painful.
The hotel already has challenges with long-term construction site noise; one would think that basic customer service and customer care became more important for those who actually choose the hotel despite this.
I have previously been a satisfied Thon customer who has stayed at hotels from Harstad to Ålesund to Oslo in the context of both study, work, volunteering and leisure.
I’ve recommended several of their hotels, including this one. After this, it will take a lot for me to consider Thon again, and rather than recommending them, I will actively warn friends and colleagues about using Thon Hotels - especially this location.
--- To summarize:
• Total lack of empathy, judgment and basic understanding of customer service at the reception.
• Absurd and intolerable behavior from the receptionist, completely incompatible with professional operation.
• An experience that comes across as a direct parody of the service profession and a shockingly poor reflection of the hotel's work culture.
Congratulations, Spectrum. You've really done a great job here.
Unsafe for families. Left Thon Terminus in Oslo within an hour of arriving as the surroundings, reception and corridors felt so aggressive and unsafe, with an unmanned reception. Contacted customer service, the hotel manager and, eventually, the head of customer relations, but no one seemed genuinely decent or helpful.
We'd booked two rooms for three nights, but have been unable to get a refund of even the second and third nights, even though the hotel manager confirmed they'd been rebooked. No customer service at all, our experience with the Thon Terminus hotel and the Thon Hotels group have been nothing like their website and social media promises.
Do not visit thon arena in lillestrøm.
The hotel is fantastic with at great breakfast aswell.
The problem is that you will receive parking tickets almost every day, for using the hotel parking lot.
Even if you pay an can show the receipt.
They even have a lady parked outside waiting for customers to go to the reception to ask how to pay parking. When they come back, there will be a ticket of 660kr.
We as a company have used this hotel for many years now, but we had to make the call, and ban all employees from using thon Arena i Lillestrøm. Its a shame, because I is a great hotel, but not worth the daily parking ticket
Stayed at the Thon Hotel Harstad and forgot my diamond earings on the nightstand when checking out. Called the hotel within the hour to check the room but the reception staff had no sense of urgency and did not go in the room before the cleaning staff. We called several times and the were waiting for the housekeeping staff to report back to them. At the end of ithe day, they said that nothing was found. That is impossible! My earings were on the nightstand and they didn't disappear. Someone on the staff took my earings. I filled a police report. Do not stay at this hotel. The staff is not only unhelpful, but someone is a theif.
We stayed at the Hotel Thon Harstad in Norway. We accidentally left diamond earrings on the nightstand. Within less than two hours we realized we left them. The hotel reception area had no sense of urgency to go to the room before the cleaning staff to secure them and the cleaning staff did not turn them in. The manager was only available via email and has not responded after 48 hours. A police report had to be issued and the hotel has not taken any action. We do not recommend this hotel because they were useless in securing the diamonds to prevent the theft.
Lovely room, very modern and clean. Staff extremely friendly and helpful especially with directions etc.
We stayed at the Thon EU in Brussels, Belgium. Very central and close to train station.
We stayed at Thon and Thon partner hotels in Gothenburg, Bergen, Trondheim, Bodø and Svolvær. They were all excellent with friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable rooms and some with extra light meals included in the price. Breakfasts were also excellent with a wide range of foods catering to most tastes. When visiting Norway again, I would head straight to Thon for accommodation.
Stayed at Thon Hotel Oslo Airport as a result of an KLM owerbooking. Dinner was served at 21 in the evening in small portions. Asked to get vegetarian food, which was not possible for me, but possible for the next girl who asked - only beef available. All in all, a bad experience.
We stayed at the Thon EU in August, when the EU was not in session and it was fantastic. Fantastic service, location and the room was clean, large and comfortable. The value could not be beat.
Due to a government weather alert (cyclone Hans) which recommended those who could not travel to Oslo at that time, I tried to cancel my booking. The structure, despite my repeated requests and the proof of the weather alert, has not granted the cancellation with a refund, not even partial. The staff I spoke to "bounced" me for days just trying to make me give up. Basically they cashed my money and they don't intend to refund even for reasons of force majeure such as a weather alert. I write this review so that potential future customers know how they will be treated and decide to stay overnight elsewhere.
Thonhotels Sandnes. Online order for 2 of our employees. Checking online - see that there`s only request for 1. So refreshing site for 2 rooms. Do not notice that the date also change. Get the confirmation and notice the dates are wrong Immedialtly call - try to change. Emilie in the reception says - theres no cancel. I say - dont wanna cancel - just change the dates. Promised a call back, promised new call back next morning. Never heard a thing. Sent mail to 3 different Thonhotels adresses. No reply. Reservation 374080389. So you get NOK 2 200 for nothing, but you also loose 68 potensial customers.
I Accidentally booked the wrong dates, (booked two weeks later). At arrival, the hotel was fully booked and I had to choose another hotel for two nights.
I wanted to call and ask for a refound almost two weeks before the booked dates, and nobody picks up the phone. The coming week I tried again, then called Thon Snø and got a mailadress. The response was that a refound is not possible.
So now I have two pay for 250€ for nothing. I used to be a loyal customer.
Very nice hotel to the price. Good service, good location. Thon City Center, Bruxelles.
Thank you.
