I should have come here to read reviews before choosing Morgan Stanley as Amy broker! My god. There’s no real customer support and hidden charges for everything!

Horrific customer service

Customer representatives and financial advisers have not had proper training. When either my husband or I call, we get inconsistent answers on how to do simple transactions, Roth conversions, etc. I never worked in finance but can provide a better answer or solution than these employees. Also Morgan Stanley made a huge mistake and after 4 weeks of phone calls, we are still arguing with them to correct their mistake. It is shocking how they are running their business. They tried to blame us for their mistake. Fortunately we have physical documentation to prove they did it incorrectly. Plus we have a witness at our bank. Anyone who is doing business Morgan Stanley better make sure you document everything since the employees (customer reps, financial advisors and manager) have been trained to blame the customer first. They blamed and interrogated my husband. He has spoke with a dozen employees and spent many hours on the phone dealing with this. I recommend not doing business with Morgan Stanley since it has been a horrific 4 weeks for us.

Surreal Management availability.

After being an investor for over 10 years at Etrade (Before Morgan Stanley took over). They were great at customer service, and technical features. It seems that is just the end of an age. Getting a supervisor it's just impossible.
There's more brokers, fortunately.

This might explain why New York voters selected a Communist Mayor!

Today, December 5th, 2025, I received another Fake pension check from the Northern Trust (on behalf of Morgan Stanley) where they regularly sent the checks by mail and charged me $35 wire transfer as per the attach two files. It is not even a smart way to scam your own retirees!!!!!
I already returned all 2025 checks by mail dated 11.07.2025 to Morgan Stanley, New York Main Office. I clearly stated that I found their behavior and deliberate inappropriate accounting are truly appalling to any common sense, decency and trustworthiness.
Can anyone imagine how naive you look when you send checks by mail and deduct wire transfer? I just wonder if you are not that smart, why any potential Investors trust your judgement to handle their finances?

My company had some stock options with Shareworks (Morgan Stanley). Once I sold my shares and it took 2 months to get my money back. After calling their office and waiting for someone to answer, and telling those people the whole story from beginning step by step, everytime they only said "I am sorry" and passed me to my bank, and I wasn't able to get my money, until I requested my manager and HR to follow it up and then they transferred my money,
This was such a terrible awful experience with them

My company has unfortunately vested my stock options with Shareworks (Morgan Stanley), but I have never managed to access my account. They have asked me to activate my account and create my credentials, which I did. However, it is impossible to access my account, even though the details are correct. They have blocked everything, and the only channel to contact their support is via phone. I have called them, but they were unable to assist.

With holding funds with any excuse they can.

My Late Auntie and Uncle had a joint IRA with a large amount of money in it. It was to be distributed between 8 beneficiaries 7 overseas in the uk and a Cancer charity in the USA, we needed to get an ITIN number before they could pay out so they could deduct Tax.This in itself wasn’t the easiest of things to obtain ,3 of us got them after applying a couple of times but others haven’t got them yet. ( I know this isn’t anything MS can help or do anything about). One of the beneficiaries sent them his ITIN number in April and still not had his inheritance transferred to his uk bank account yet, They keep making the most stupid excuses they can to save transfering the funds. The date of experience is the date they received one of the Beneficiaries ITIN number.

Unethical Excessive Fees on a Dormant IRA

I had a small, uninvested IRA acct with Morgan Stanley’s Chattanooga branch that sat in a basic holding account for years, earning only one or two pennies a month. No service was provided for this account, and I assumed it was simply inactive. Despite that, Morgan Stanley continued charging a $100 annual “service” fee, which quickly eroded the already small balance.
After realizing what was happening and seeing that hundreds of dollars in fees had been deducted—eroding the principal—I called to question the charges and was initially told the fees could not be reimbursed. After filing multiple claims and going through several escalation steps, I was eventually reimbursed. I’m grateful the issue was resolved, but it required a significant amount of time, effort, and persistence on my part.
Investors should be aware that even tiny, inactive, uninvested accounts can still incur large annual fees—and resolving issues like this may take more work than expected.

If you are a retiree who is drawing down their account, be aware that MS will boot you from their client list if you fall below $500,000. Judging by how volatile the markets have been in recent years, I find this outrageous. Not all financial institutions do this.

Morgan Stanley London office

Morgan Stanley London office have a disgusting way of treating their temporary workers who they employ for up to 2 years. When management decide they no longer need the temporary worker instead of letting the worker know they just cancel the worker's access to the office building after the worker has gone home so they cannot get back in, then cowardly get the recruitment agency the worker came from to call them to let them know.

Morgan Stanley is a disappointment

I have account for many years with etrade and I have very good experience.
I try to move to Morgan Stanley to manage my account and realized that it was not worse the effort .There is actually no one to talk to and response time very slow .they employ a group of people that the customer needs are not a priority there

Better Options Out There

We have a small Etrade account that we don't use much but as interest rates have been dropping I have be looking for a better place to park some cash. Morgan Stanley talked me into opening a high yield savings account through my Etrade website and transfer money to it and ultimately have them be my advisor. I opened the account and then tried to add on spouse, NO GO! Could do a power of attorney or apply for a new account, NO THANK YOU! Then I wrote a check from chase and did a mobile app deposit and it's still not available and yet it already cleared Chase. Then I added two external accounts to my other bank as my advisor suggested and I transferred 100,000 from each account. 5 hours later I got a failure from trade.. I called and they said I could only transfer 100k a day. I explained that I was trying to transfer a total of 750,000 and I really don't want to take the next 8 days to do it. He said it's easy to do, REALLY, I have better things to do with my time. Then I asked if the second 100,000 failed from this morning and he said he didn't know, it won't show up for 2-3 days! Seriously, you're telling me that I transfer 100,000 and I can't even see a record of it from a linked external account! Then after digging around trades sight for over 1 hour I found that my 100,000 will be place in my account in 7 days!!! Thanks but I am now going to transfer out the couple hundred grand that did make it in back to my other accounts and close my other accounts with Etrade, Morgan Stanley and Morgan Stanley Private Bank. And to think I was ultimately looking at letting them manage a couple million dollars..... NO THANK YOU!!

I would give them a 0 if I could

I would give them a 0 if I could. They are crooks and totally incompetent. I had my money in their high yield savings for 2 years and when I went to transfer my Roth savings to Vanguard, it took 6 months and at least 20 phone calls to get it done. Then in converting the account to cash they shorted me $4000. Save yourself the heartache of dealing with these, mostly children trying to do a professional financier's job. I'm just so disappointed!
