My problem with Harkness Test discourse is that in practice it's only ever an issue when somebody wants to fuck a male or not-obviously-gender-coded (and thus male by default) cartoon animal. Give that cartoon animal long eyelashes and chest bumps that kind of look like tits and suddenly wanting to fuck it is respectable!
TRAGIC: man who can only communicate via references and tropes falls in love with man only vaguely aware that media exists
I have no idea what to call it but old 80's animated media with furry characters and everything is slightly yellowed and grainy and the colors in isolation would look disgusting but together are super soothing and the furry characters look completely different from the modern anthro-animal-character tropes.

ALTI mean, kids SHOULD have a space where they can communicate without adults policing their language as a form of control. They should definitely have that. Swearing is fake. It's made-up bullshit. It's used to reinforce unequal power structures. Just look at who cannot swear in front of who.
Let kids say 'fuck'. It's harmless unless you're a cunt about it.

To clarify, the author might not know about a number of tropes, or how to explore tropes to try to use them in their story. The thing they know is the story they write, and where that story wants to end up. They may have tropes in the story without knowing.
Does that make them any less of a writer?

Absolutely not. Tropes and trope-based analysis are one angle of approach on storytelling, not the only or best angle. They’re good for broad-strokes pattern-recognition across a large space of multiple stories. When it comes to constructing a new story, knowing the tropes beforehand can give you an understanding of the genre and works that your story will be compared to, but it is not a prerequisite to telling a story in the first place.

Swearing is fun, easy, and free, but I also think it’s good to swear on like, a philosophical level. If you swear a lot, you require people to pay attention to your ideas regardless of how formal your language is. Swearing indicates a disregard for the tone policing of “professional” environments and that good ideas aren’t relegated to academia.
The same thing can be accomplished with typing with causal internet speak or homestuck typing quirks, but that’s more effective over written mediums.
