As a USamerican in the year of our lord 2025, there are many reasons to rue the unfortunate circumstance of my being born just south of the Canadian border. Think of all I missed out on - by mere miles! Gun control! Nationalized healthcare! A tolerant and polite cultural ethos! And now, government-funded gay hockey romance! Le sigh.

Sheer perfection. I’ve watched this about 500 times. This entire episode is truly some of the best television I have ever watched.
Ilya Rozanov, the icon that he is, has his own little romance in Heated Rivalry and then proceeds to play the role of a gay fairy godmother in every subsequent book. He just comes in, clocks everyone who's queer, tells them what is wrong with them, encourages them to get together with their partners and pursue their happiness and then fucks off to go have sex with Shane. King shit.
Yes! Honestly, this is why I am so angry with myself for not reading the Game Changers series in order. I feel as if I missed out on the full Ilya Rozanov experience as Rachel Reid intended.
I saw someone mention that after episode 2 of Heated Rivalry, Shane and Ilya witnessing Yuzuru Hanyu break the Olympic record for highest scoring short program at the Sochi Olympics is now canon and I can't get it out of my head because I love nothing better than when my fandoms collide, whether they be fiction or reality.
Also, because I was curious, I looked it up and it turns out Shane's figure skating buddy Joe is played by retired Canadian pairs figure skater Dylan Moscovitch who appears in the credits as Stunt Canadian Figure Skater.
