home / ask / about /hmmm. just read the LRB review of the new cicero biography by andrew dyck and i think i need to just read the book because the review was shockingly useless at actually reviewing anything? in that only one paragraph out of three pages was about the biography and not just summarising cicero’s life. i know about cicero’s life already tell me how this compares with the other cicero biographies out there! does it succeed at saying anything interesting! the angle. please. the angle. at least tempt me with the fact that this biography has six separate indexes. and you will say oh but the LRB doesn’t do academic reviews that’s not the point. ok but this is a review of an academic book and also i have read other reviews in here that were in fact good. my review of this review is that it sucks
dvd normal. btw
me when i’m gaius sallustius crispus and i write that cato preferred to be rather than to seem good
i think i need to get my eyes tested again due to how frequently i am misreading words and also can’t see stuff. but also i got new lenses in september it hasn’t even been six monthssssss
Btw where does wretchedly perish then said Cicero come from?
plutarch, life of cicero 26.3 trans. perrin: ‘Again, after hearing that Vatinius was dead, and then after a little learning for a surety that he was alive, “Wretchedly perish, then,” said Cicero, “the wretch who lied!”’
