Dan Satterfield o Ok, I keep getting asked about how to complain about Kimmel. The best way to complain that will have the biggest impact? See if you have a Sinclair or nexstar station in your area. 2. Watch the local newscast tonight or some time this week. 3. Note the companies that bought tv adverts. 4. Call them and let them know you will boycott them until they quit supporting that media company. Trust me. I worked in tv for 45 years. Nothing you do will have greater impact. Nothing.ALT

Here’s a simple way to find a Nexstar channel near you:

Remember the channel you watched Supernatural on?

Or Riverdale?

Or The Vampire Diaries + the spinoffs?

Or the Arrowverse shows?

That’s the channel.

In australia, we had this piece of shit shockjock radio host move to Melbourne and be awarded a HUYUUUGE pay packet in a brand new contract. This guy is a racist, sexist, misogynist, classist, piece of shiiiiit.

Well a melbourne community launched an an anti-advertising campaign against him. Listened to find out who was advertising during his show. Then called or emailed those companies to say, “Hey, are you aware that your product/service is being advertised on Kyle Sandilands show? Today, he said [heinous thing]. Is that what your company stands for? Is that what you want to be advertising next to?”

Folks—— advertisers left the radio station in DROVES.

We are talking multiple millions of dollars in advertising that was pulled from the radio station. The radio station is in an absolute crisis about it. Theres talk of firing Sandilands and just paying his contract out, because that will be cheaper than how much theyre hemmoraging from list ad revenue.

Targeting the advertisers works. It works fantastically.

you ever have situations that make you want to take people by the shoulders and go “you are not 15 any longer. this behavior is no longer quirky and cute. it is exhausting for you and everyone else to act like a teenager you haven’t been in a decade or longer. knock it the fuck off”

lots of ppl making this about adults who have interests they find cringe but let me be clear this is about emotional immaturity. idgaf if you’re 35 and like goku okay but can you have an adult conversation without making yourself the victim is the matter at hand here

ultimately the best way to prevent abuse is to organize society in such a way that everyone’s needs are met wothout having to rely on a parent or employer or boyfriend or any one individual. obviously wont stop, like, manipulation or so on, but the ability to dangle basic needs over someone’s head is one of the most powerful and consistant tools of abuse out there. if someone is able to just leave, and know that they will have access to food and shelter and clean water and education, that will enable so, so mamy victims of abuse to do just that.

reject the western gaze!

mutual aid means no hierarchy between givers and receivers

a new mutual aid org, Bridge of Solidarity, has been established in the gaza strip by 17 year old poet yazan mohammed in response to the exploitative practices conducted by some charities and encouraged by the existing charity-based model of fundraising for gaza. according to BoS: “the western attention economy and pity economy plays a large role in who lives or dies in gaza.” essentially, people need to make themselves marketable in order to receive lifesaving aid; people who are not marketable die. yazan himself wrote about the damage this can do to one’s self image, which you can read here.

after trying for a year to respect his own privacy, my friend siraj was also pressured into posting images of his son’s emaciated body in order to gain sympathy from westerners.

we cannot keep forcing people to do this anymore.

here’s a declaration of their values from bridge of solidarity’s most recent post:

Our organization is against the Western gaze. We refuse to humiliate people. We refuse to force people to take photos. We refuse to force people to take photos with our flyer or logo. People will receive aid freely without being forced to pose. We will respect people’s privacy completely. Our principles include autonomy, dignity, sovereignty, mutual respect, and mutual aid.

this org will prioritize giving aid to people without phones or social media, who do not speak english, and who do not have outside support or living parents. these are the people who are not palatable to westerners but who deserve to live with as much dignity as everyone else

We live in the dumbest, lamest cyberpunk dystopia possible.

So LA has been — and continues to — protest against ICE. These protests haven’t gotten any smaller or lost any momentum, but social media wasn’t reflecting it.

TikTok users, realizing that the platform/other social media are censoring/deleting/shadowbanning these protest videos, decided to find a workaround.

They’re calling it the LA Music Festival. Ice detention centers and other protest locations are “stages.” The hottest band is Rage Against the Machine. “Here’s what gear you should be bringing to stay safe at the LA Music Festival.”

And it fucking worked.

TikTok has become a proving ground for a lot of new music, meaning lots of labels and organizations have lucrative deals with TikTok to promote their new artists and music festivals. So they absolutely cannot censor the words “music festival” or train the algorithm to ignore it, or they risk endangering that very important revenue.

So now protest videos are flooding feeds again, but it’s the LA 24/7 Music Festival. Truly an incredible timeline we’ve landed in.

During the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s, radio broadcasts would refer to upcoming marches as “parties” and use other such euphemisms to sneak calls to organize past censors.

This is, frankly, a timeless strategy, just done online.
