I said literally like three days ago after saying for months people on this site were gonna soft launch saying r*tard now that it’s becoming normal again and I’ve already seen multiple posts on my dash using it this week. Eye roll
and here’s the thing, it became pretty apparent as “faggot” became common parlance on here that a lot of people were so eager to say it not bc of community reasons but because it’s an Edgy Word and they felt Edgy saying it – not edgy in a liberatory politics way but in a “i want to be on 8chan right now so bad” way. but so many of us on here are queer and it’s been such a common term within community spaces for so long that it’s kinda meaningless to try and parse it
but i cant imagine under what framework you’d justify usage here. i’ve been on this site since day one, it’s more or less always been a faux pas to say this, as it usually is in polite society in general. so yes, this is a regressive action at best, unnecessarily cruel and alienating. and moreover it just reflects the disdain a lot of people in “leftist” spaces have for disabled people. i imagine people will pull out every neurologically adjacent diagnosis they have to justify this – people who will turn away in disgust or discomfort if they see a high support needs disabled person in public. you can say i’m being dramatic (maybe) but this is something i’m passionate about as an issue.
i feel like the only two reasons you’d hop on this boat is that youve always wanted to say it, but had to pretend you didnt until now to keep up appearances (you have no principles), or you never did but now all the Cool Kids are doing it so you have to be a part of it (you’re a lemming, also with no principles)
