  • I think the thing I really love about the final update was that it wasn’t clear and straight-forward

The thing that I’ve always loved most about Homestuck, I think, is that it’s almost more of a meta-narrative than it is a normal plot-based story. Ever since the start, it’s thrown the typical linear chronology out of the window, and the commentary about the story is as poignant as the story itself. The real story of Homestuck wasn’t ever really that concerned with this-or-that character or this-or-that event, but with the lore, the symbolism, the experimentation with the game

It’s hard to put into words, but Homestuck has always been about the creation of the universe. It has always been about mythology and epic, about the thread that ties together so many big ideas and big stories. It has been about drawing on more references, symbols, theories than probably any other narrative before it–it drew on the collective ideas and knowledge of a ton of people through the forums and the fandom to stitch together a creation myth that combines and comments on the ones before it

The character and plot are important! But Hussie never really..made any of those things more important than the goal of sburb itself and the commentary that was being made through it. And to see at the very end that the true closure was the one presented as its main goal from the very beginning–that of the creation of a new universe, with all of the destruction and new life that comes with it–was a sort of catharsis that resonated with me very deeply somehow

I really like the characters+plot…but that meta and lore was what made me actually fall in love with Homestuck. It feels v fitting to me that the comic would end that way, and I’m really at peace with this
