“Goodnight, Druig,” You pressed a kiss to his cheek. He gazed into your eyes and smiled to bid you the same.
“I’ll see you soon, my love,” He promised as he started to make his way down the hall of your apartment complex. Hands in his leather jacket, you watched as his dark-clothed frame disappear from view before you finally went back inside your studio. Shutting the door, you turned to observe the chaotic state of your home with the dishes in the sink from dinner and the blankets that were strewn across the couch.
Even though Druig had consistently offered to or asked you to move in together. It wasn’t a terrible idea and you knew that you would enjoy it, but you had been concerned about what some of your current friends would think. Even if they didn’t know the whole truth about your identity, they knew that Druig had always been a part of your life and always would be. But that also came with their constant teasing for when you both planned to finally get together. They just didn’t know that you already were in a relationship with him.
Though Druig thought that your interactions with mortals were silly at times, he still played into it for you. He understood that it was important for you to have a little friend group, even if you would outlive them so that your life had some semblance of normalcy before Ajak called you to go home.
As thoughts continued racing through your mind, your hand fell to your chest, fingers brushing against the locket on your chest. It was a present Druig had given to you many moons ago and revealed that he had a matching one. Inside each locket were a picture that the two of you had taken in the 19th century and a little paper heart. The memory made you smile and clutch in closer to your heart.
Then the rumble of thunder pulled you out of your mind. Taking out your phone from your pocket, you sent a quick text to Druig.
It’s starting to rain. Did you make it home okay?
A few seconds later, your phone buzzed.
Yep, see you soon, my love.
Now this romantic piece of your relationship with Druig was somewhat of a recent decision. The pair of you had always been close when the team was all together, but you left with him because you knew that days without him would be impossible to live through. And you never regretted that decision as you both explored this world and everything it had to offer in every century.
Then one day when you had gone out for coffee together, he snuck his hand in yours. It was a spark that quickly grew into a flame.
As you tidied up from the night, the apartment felt empty. When you watched your favorite show to wind down, the couch felt too light with just the weight of you. It was too quiet went you put away your dishes. And the bed was too cold when you tried to go to sleep with the rain playing a soft lullaby.
As you tumbled in your bed, completely restless with thoughts running through your mind, everything just felt too lonely. Maybe it wouldn’t be a terrible idea if… no, it was just another night.
But before you could keep trying to talk yourself out of it, you changed your pajamas for a sweatshirt and leggings then slipped on your sneakers. Grabbing your phone and apartment keys, you were sprinting out the door to the one place you need to be.
As you stepped out onto the sidewalk, you noticed exactly how heavy it was raining in the middle of the night. But that wouldn’t stop you. It was only three blocks so how bad could it really be. Shaking your head, you began to start running again. Immediately, the rain coated you and seeped into your sweatshirt and even into your socks.
But you kept running and you didn’t stop until the door of his townhouse came into view. Quickly, you made your way up the concrete steps and landed in front of the black door. Raising your fist, you knocked rapidly and consistently in hopes the door would open sooner and release you from the freezing rain. You didn’t stop your attack on the door until you heard footsteps on the other side.
“Coming… coming!” And the locks started to turn, revealing a very sleepy and very dry Druig, “(Y/N)? It’s 1 am. What are you doing here? And you’re soaking wet-”
But he couldn’t finish the thought as you tugged him towards you, pressing your freezing lips against his soft, warm ones. He immediately melted into your and wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you closer to him.
Both of you pulled away with a smile before he pulled you inside, “come on you crazy girl,” he chuckled shutting the door behind you.
“Why are you soaking wet?”
“I ran here,” you giggled, taking the towel he offered you.
“You RAN here,” His jaw dropped as he shook his head, “You are actually insane. Why would you do that?”
“Well, it was quiet and rather lonely once you left… and I decided that I didn’t want to be alone… I didn’t want to be anywhere without you. And so I started running and ended up here, with you,” You smiled longingly at him, “where I belong.”
He pulled you into his arms again, resting his forehead against yours. His body heat warmed you quicker than any blanket could and made you feel complete again, “Does this mean…”
“Yes, Dru, I want to move in with you. And I want to be by your side for the rest of time. And I don’t care what my friends or the others will ever say because I just want… you,” Your fingers toyed with the locket hanging around his neck as you rambled on.
“You crazy, crazy girl,” He chuckled again and pressed another kiss to your lips, “I love you, my beautiful, beautiful (Y/N).”
“Forever?” You smirked, eyebrows raised to tease him.
“Forever,” he whispered back.
